Jeff Jarrett Says There’s No Question Who Owns ‘Broken Hardy’ Gimmick

Impact Wrestling has been locked in a legal battle with Matt and Jeff Hardy for the majority of this year over the rights to the Broken Matt and Brother Nero gimmicks.

Impact’s argument is the gimmicks were created while they were working in TNA but both Hardy brothers claim they created the idea behind the gimmicks that were of their own doing. Matt Hardy’s wife, Reby, has been very vocal in her criticism towards Impact over the legal issues and even tweeted that Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions President Ed Nordholm and Jeff Jarrett are the “scum of the earth.”

What complicates matters even more is Jeff Jarrett’s personal friendship with Jeff Hardy. Jarrett recently spoke to Wrestle:List about the ongoing legal battle, where he gave his thoughts on the squabble.

“I always take the high road because there is legal squabbles or potential legal squabbles but I have said this to a couple of outlets, and I say this with very broad strokes – I am from Nashville so I am around music which is intellectual property and I have been in the business 30 years,” Jarrett told Wrestle:List. “Intellectual property laws are very simple, there are two sides to it; there are publishers and the writers, then there are the performers as well.”

“Jeff Hardy has been one of my best friends for 20 years, you can look on my social media and their social media, and we take family vacations together but business is business,” Jarrett continued. “So when it relates to IP it’s real simple, there is a publisher who owns the property, there is a writer who gets credit and can monetize it, then there is the performers. There is no question that Broken Matt and Brother Nero’s performances were off the charts good. But when it comes to ownership to me it’s almost a silly squabble, it’s never been in question. Impact are the owners.”

Impact attempted to re-sign both Matt and Jeff Hardy when their contracts expired earlier this year but negotiations were unsuccessful. The Hardys worked for Ring of Honor in March before returning to WWE together at WrestleMania 33 in April.

What’s Going On With Jeff Jarrett’s GFW? Is GFW Merging With Impact Wrestling?

Today I tried to access Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling promotion’s website globalforcewrestling.com and all I got was a blank white page with pageok in the upper left corner.

In a recent interview at WrestleCon by former WCW ring announcer David Penzer for Hannibal TV, Jarrett was asked if GFW was alive and well. Jarrett said, “Oh, absolutely. In the weeks and days, months, however that saying goes, more will come out, but yeah, Global Force and Impact are becoming one day-by-day.”

I have also noticed that the most recent tweets by Jarrett @RealJeffJarrett have all been about Impact Wrestling, for which he now has a role as Executive Consultant. The most recent tweets on the GFW Twitter page @GFWWrestling  have also all been about Impact Wrestling. GFW’s last tweet was on March 23 and it was a retweet of Impact Wrestling about ‘WOS’ British Wrestling to return to TV on ITV.

Recently on Impact Wrestling we have seen Cody Rhodes with his GFW Nex*Gen Title and on tonight’s Impact we will see Magnus (Nick Aldis) the GFW Global Champion.

So, I’m left wondering if merger between Impact Wrestling and GFW is already underway.

UPDATE:

GFW’s website globalforcewrestling.com is back up and running:

Jeff Jarrett On Impact Wrestling And GFW ‘Becoming One’, His WrestleMania Moment, Future Plans

Jeff Jarrett was interviewed at WrestleCon by former WCW ring announcer David Penzer for Hannibal TV. Here are some of the highlights:

How it feels to back with the company he created, and future plans for Impact:

“I can’t give you all the plans, but we’re all as a team very excited. A lot of guys are coming back on-board, and we’ve got a lot of things going on with Global Force Wrestling and Impact Wrestling, as we sort of figure how how we’re going to put the pieces of the puzzle together so to speak. Just last week as a part of the new organization we announced that we’re going to be doing WOS over on ITV over in the United Kingdom. A lot of things have happened in the past 60, 90 days. Spike TV in the UK made an announcement and that launches April 21st.”

Whether Global Force Wrestling is alive and well:

“Oh, absolutely. In the weeks and days, months, however that saying goes, more will come out, but yeah, Global Force and Impact are becoming one day-by-day.”

If he has a WrestleMania moment.

“You always gotta remember when you win a title or defend a title, but me and Scott Hall, which is ironically about 30 feet right there (he pointed off camera), I think it was 13 in Hartford, Connecticut (it was WrestleMania 11), Bam Bam Bigelow and the football with Salt-N-Pepa, it was the first time I got to defend a major title on WrestleMania.”

Pro Wrestling Sheet has learned a high ranking executive from Spike met with Jeff Jarrett today … and their new deal in the UK wasn’t the only thing they discussed.

Sources say Scott Fishman — Senior Vice President and Executive Producer at the network — was present before Impact’s taping today and met with JJ about various topics, including a U.S. return.

According to a press release from when he was promoted to SVP in 2012, Fishman was “instrumental in developing” Impact Wrestling in the early days of the show.

As we previously reported, the company’s weekly TV show will return to Spike in the UK starting in April. We’re told lots of promos for that were shot over the weekend.

Pro Wrestling Sheet has confirmed that Jeff Jarrett will be returning to the company at tonight’s television taping … and we’re told his new role is Executive Consultant.

Jarret’s return was first reported by PWInsider and we’re told he’s already at the Impact Zone working on the show. Same for Dutch Mantel, aka former WWE manager Zeb Colter, who is also returning to TNA as a creative consultant.

Jeff was an original TNA founder, but left the company in 2013. He returned a year later to get inducted in their Hall of Fame and behind the scenes Dixie Carter bought his shares in the company.

Jarrett launched Global Force Wrestling during his time away, and we’re told GFW wasn’t included in his deal to return due to previous contractual obligations for the wrestling fed.

Pro Wrestling Sheet reached out to Jeff for comment and he told them, “This is a great opportunity for myself and GFW. And, I feel it’s great for the wrestling business.”

Anthem – TNA Still Talking With Jeff Jarrett, TNA Ownership Update,

Regarding the TNA ownership announcement that’s expected from Anthem Sports & Entertainment, PWInsider reports that Anthem will likely officially become the new TNA owners on January 1st and an announcement will be issued then. An official meeting is also expected for backstage at next week’s tapings in Orlando. It will be interesting to see if TNA announces any new contracts in the next few weeks as Anthem officials are working on locking in talents who have deals expiring in early 2017, including Drew Galloway and The Hardys.

– Anthem officials also are still having discussions with Jeff Jarrett, according to PWInsider. There is no sign of a deal being reached for Jarrett to return to the company in any kind of role but anything is possible. Jarrett continues to work on potential Global Force Wrestling TV deals in Los Angeles.

Jeff Jarrett’s GFW Partnering With Tennessee State Fair

Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling issued the following this week:

Global Force Wrestling will partner with the Tennessee State Fair to provide action-packed professional wrestling on the midway on each night of the fair, from Sept. 9-18.

The Fairgrounds in Nashville has a long and storied history with professional wrestling and with GFW co-founder Jeff Jarrett, and he’s proud to bring his new brand home.

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to be involved with the Tennessee State Fair,” Jarrett said. “I’ve been to the fair as a kid, I’ve brought my kids, and I’ve wrestled here literally hundreds of times.

“Wrestling’s roots are in state and county fairs, and GFW recently had a successful show at the Porter County Fair in Valparaiso, Indiana. This is a great fit for our brand, and we look forward to seeing some longtime fans and making some new ones.”

The Tennessee State Fair’s 2016 theme is “A Tennessee Tradition, ” as the fair was inaugurated more than 150 years ago. It features arts and crafts, explores agriculture, and allows attendees to have new and exciting experiences in a family-friendly atmosphere.

“What could be a better fit with our theme than professional wrestling and Tennessee’s own Jeff Jarrett?” fair manager Scott Jones said. “Wrestling is part of the fabric of the Fairgrounds, and adding it to all of the attractions we have at the fair should only add to the entertainment value for all who attend.”
