Pentagon Jr And Fenix Will Wrestle In AEW, But They Don’t Have Exclusive Deals, Finished Up With MLW

Pro Wrestling Sheet has confirmed Pentagon Jr and Fenix are not locked down to exclusive AEW contracts at this point.

In case you missed it, The Young Bucks made an appearance at Friday night’s “Come Hell or High Water” event in Atlanta after the Lucha Bros defeated SCU.

The AEW VPs stated Pentagon and Fenix are the second best tag team in the world, but they’d have to join All Elite Wrestling if they want to prove they’re number one. The Bucks then said they didn’t have formal AEW contracts to offer, but a handshake agreement would work.

Before that could happen though, the group were attacked from behind by local wrestlers. SCU, The Young Bucks and Lucha Bros fought them off … then the two tag teams shook hands.

Things got confusing hours later, however, after Chris Jericho tweeted saying the tag team had signed exclusive agreements with AEW — which would call their statuses with AAA, CMLL, Impact and Lucha Underground into question.

According to Lucha Central, Pentagon and Fenix will work dates for AEW but they’ve yet to sign an exclusive agreement. This means they’ll continue to fulfill promised dates in 2019 and work for a multitude of companies.

Yesterday, MLW CEO Court Bauer thanked Pentagon and Fenix for their time in MLW, reigning as tag champs for over seven months. Bauer continued, “Wherever you go next always know you both are 1000000000% leyendas de Lucha Libre!” so it looks like the duo is finished up with MLW.

Backstage Update On WWE Possibly Signing Pentagon Jr. And Fenix

There’s a lot of speculation on WWE signing brothers Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr. The two currently hold the MLW Tag Team Titles and Pentagon held the Impact World Heavyweight Title earlier this year. WWE has had interest in signing both wrestlers for some time and first asked fans about their interest in the brothers during a June 2017 Fan Council survey.

The brothers are currently signed to Lucha Underground and Dave Meltzer confirmed on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that they are not able to sign with any other wrestling promotion right now. There may be an option to leave the deal once the current fourth season of Lucha Underground ends. There’s no word yet on when the season will end but they are airing the 14th episode this week. The third season had 40 episodes and the second season had 26 episodes.

There’s strong speculation on Fenix and Pentagon signing with WWE once the current Lucha Underground season ends but they could also sign with someone like AAA or they could stick with Lucha Underground.

Pentagon, who is the current PCW Ultra Champion, addressed the rumors at a PCW Ultra event this past weekend. After successfully defending his title, he spoke to the crowd and said: “Respect that I am the PCW Champion and no one is going to take that from me. Thank you very much! And before I forget. I am not going anywhere. Penta will be in PCW for many, more years.”

MLW posted the following teaser on Fenix and Pentagon this past week, and that fueled the rumors on them signing for the WWE NXT brand:

WWE Interested In Pentagon Jr. & Fenix

WWE officials have made overtures to Fenix and Pentagon Jr., according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The brothers currently hold the MLW Tag Team Titles and the PWG World Tag Team Titles as Los Lucha Brothers. They have also been performing for Impact Wrestling. Pentagon held the Impact World Championship earlier this year.

There’s no word yet on what came of the feelers but word is that both wrestlers still have three seasons left on their current contracts with Lucha Underground.

It was recently revealed that WWE has interest in another former Lucha Underground champion, Angelico. WWE has had interest in Angelico on & off for years now but the big hold-up was his Lucha Underground contract, which is no longer an issue.

AAA Legally Threatens Company For Booking Pentagon Jr. And Fenix … Indie Fed Fights Back

Lawyers for AAA threatened to sue a company who booked Pentagon Jr. and Fenix on an upcoming show … but the fed isn’t run by dummies, and they fought back with a legal letter.

Lucha Libre FMV — the joint company run by AAA and Lucha Underground — sent a message through lawyers to PCW in Los Angeles earlier this month which states they are “the legitimate owner of the intellectual property related to the name, characteristics, characters and designs of ‘FENIX’, ‘REY FENIX’, ‘PENTAGON Jr.’ and ‘PENTA 0M’, among other trademarks.”

As we previously reported, LL FMV filed for a trademark on Pentagon’s new name one-week after he announced it at a Crash show in Tijuana.

The letter continues, “At the light of the above, we are sending you this communication requesting you to cease and refrain from the unauthorized and misuse of the intellectual property.” Adding, “And also please avoid to hire any person that uses such intellectual property or any other confusingly similar” … otherwise they may exercise legal action.

PCW, however, didn’t take kindly to what seems to be a pretty petty move on FMV’s part.

They fired back with a letter this week that says, “While we thank you for your concern with making sure that we are not going to use the names of performers or characters legally owned by your client, we can assure you that we are only promoting performers by names that either the performers control themselves or which no entity controls as of this date.”

The company goes on to point out that Rey Fenix filed his trademark for the name last year, long before FMV, and they have reason to believe it will get approved. As for Pentagon, they’re confident the company’s trademark attempt will be denied after he fights it in court.

PCW also mentions promotional materials don’t refer to either wrestler as Fenix or Pentagon Jr.
