Toni Storm Expected To Sign With AEW Very Soon, Ember Moon Also In Talks

AEW’s women’s division is about to get a serious injection of talent.

WWE went hard when it came to releasing wrestlers last year. More than 80 people were wished well in their future endeavors by the time 2021 was all said and done. Some of those wrestlers have since found work elsewhere, whether that be in AEW, Impact Wrestling, or by booking dates on the independent circuit. However, there are still a number of released stars who remain unattached.

One of those unattached stars will presumably find a home in AEW before the end of today. It was revealed on Rampage last week that The Bunny will face off against a mystery opponent tonight on Dynamite. The Bunny and the new signing will do battle in the first qualifier for AEW’s upcoming Owen Hart tournaments.

Speculation on who exactly tonight’s new signing will be has been rife, and a frontrunner has emerged with less than 24 hours to go. According to Fightful SelectToni Storm has been in talks with AEW and is very close to signing a deal. Apparently multiple AEW stars have been pushing for Khan to make Storm All Elite, and even if she isn’t the wrestler making her debut tonight, she will likely be a part of AEW very soon.

Right behind Storm is Ember Moon who is also reported to have been speaking extensively with AEW. Moon, who now goes by Athena, doesn’t appear to be as close to signing a deal as Storm, but there is a chance she’s the one who debuts tonight. Athena has been picking up a number of indie bookings in the meantime, marking her return to the ring for the first time since leaving WWE by losing to AEW’s Thunder Rosa.

Even though some fans are calling for AEW to slow down when it comes to new signings, the promotion definitely needs to continue bolstering its women’s division. The addition of Moon and Storm would add a lot of experience and depth to the division if Khan can get those signings over the line. Other free agents we could see debut on Dynamite a few hours from now include Tegan Nox and Mia Yim.

Ember Moon Revealed Torn Achilles Injury On WWE Backstage

Ember Moon appeared on tonight’s WWE Backstage and revealed she’ll be out indefinitely with a torn Achilles. Moon had been out of action since October.

Moon noted that she’s not sure when she’ll be back in the ring as doctors have given her a wide range of return dates.

Ember Moon Reportedly Injured

WWE could be without one of their top female stars for up to a year.

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ember Moon is suffering from an injury on either her ankle or Achilles. While it is not definite which one, an ankle injury would take months to heal. An Achilles injury would mean that she could be gone for at least a year.

This is not the first time “The War Goddess” has been injured this year. After the Royal Rumble in January, it was revealed that she underwent immediate elbow surgery.

Since then, she wrestled Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Title at SummerSlam, but hasn’t been used all that much outside of that. Her last match was a losing effort against Lacey Evans on RAW in September.

It was mentioned on this week’s post-Royal Rumble WWE RAW that Ember Moon was out of action with an injury.

In the video below, Moon reveals that she will undergo immediate elbow surgery.

“Last year when I entered the Royal Rumble I wrestled with one arm and this year was no different,” Moon said. “Just sadly, I messed up my elbow really bad and now I have to have immediate surgery. It’s hard to be here right now and just see everyone competing, and knowing that I’m on the shelf, and I don’t know how long but it is a while. So, I’m trying to stay positive, I’m trying to stay as positive as I can be in this situation. Hopefully here’s to the best, and I’ll see you guys soon.”

Moon worked the 30-woman Royal Rumble match on Sunday, entering the match in the #6 spot. She was later eliminated by Alexa Bliss for the 24th elimination of the match.

Ember Moon’s Husband Rips Nia Jax And Calls Her An ‘Unsafe Moron

In just three years as a professional wrestler, Nia Jax has become one of the top names of the women’s division. After a dominant run in NXT, Jax was sent to the main roster, defeating numerous enhancement talent to further her push. Jax worked her way up to becoming a number one contender for the RAW Women’s Championship, competing in a four-way match at WrestleMania 33. Although she was unsuccessful, she was able to win the title a year later at WrestleMania 34 by defeating Alexa Bliss.

Although Jax has been successful during her main roster run, she has been heavily criticized for working unsafely in the ring. Along with matches with Sasha Banks, Charlotte Flair, and Bayley which had moments where her opponents could have been severely injured, Jax threw a punch at the go-home show of Survivor Series to Becky Lynch. Lynch was injured from the punch, forcing her to sit out of her match against Ronda Rousey.

Daily Star is reporting that Ember Moon’s husband, indie wrestler Matthew Palmer, had some harsh comments about Jax’s in-ring work. According to the report, the now-deleted text stated, “Hope this unsafe moron doesn’t hurt my wife again.”

Moon came in as a last-minute replacement for Natalya on RAW as a teammate with Ronda Rousey, following Natalya being attacked and powerbombed through a table by the Riott Squad. Rousey and Moon were successful in the match, following an Eclipse on Tamina which set up for Rousey’s armbar submission.

Although the punch from Jax cost Lynch her opportunity to compete against Rousey, WWE has continued to use this careless moment as a way to generate more heat as a heel. Jax was able to win the battle royal at Evolution to become the number one contender for the Raw Women’s Championship, lastly eliminating Ember Moon. As a result, Jax will be competing for the title at the upcoming TLC event on December 16.

Ember Moon Confirms Injury, No Longer Wrestling At NXT Takeover: Chicago (Video)

ember moon injured nxt takeover chicago

Speculation has run rampant for weeks, but Ember Moon has now confirmed that her shoulder is hurt — and WWE reports that she’ll no longer be wrestling at NXT Takeover: Chicago.

“There’s no Takeover: Chicago for me. I’m out,” Moon said in a video posted by WWE Monday afternoon. WWE also reports that she sustained a grade one shoulder sprain.

Rumors of Moon’s injury began after the last set of NXT tapings when images of Moon in a sling emerged after she landed hard on the floor during an ambush from Asuka. However, this has been the first confirmation that she will be off of the show and out four to five weeks.

No official word as to whether she’ll be replaced in the upcoming match or if it’s now a triple threat. As for Moon, she remains hopeful. “When I get back, I’m going to be better than ever.”
