Backstage Updates On Daniel Bryan And John Cena Not Working WWE Crown Jewel, Possible Replacement

daniel bryan john cena crown jewel wwe statement

It appears as if nothing has changed regarding John Cena skipping Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia this Friday, and WWE may confirm his status on tonight’s RAW, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer noted that some people in creative and elsewhere in the company are not aware of what is actually happening with Cena, but we should have an answer after tonight’s RAW.

In a related noted, the @WrestleVotes Twitter account, which has broken several stories in the past, is reporting that Bobby Lashley will be replacing Cena at the event. We recently reported on how Lashley is dealing with a shoulder injury that’s causing him a lot of pain but it’s believed he will continue working through it for as long as he can. WWE officials told creative to start looking for Cena’s World Cup replacement two weeks ago after he informed officials he would not be making the trip.

As reported earlier, WWE will be announcing the brackets for the World Cup tournament on tonight’s RAW and tomorrow’s SmackDown.

In regards to reports of Daniel Bryan skipping the show as well, Meltzer noted that the rumor is that no announcement will be made on Bryan not working the event. It’s possible they do an angle on the day of the show or at this week’s SmackDown to explain why Bryan isn’t working the WWE Title match with champion AJ Styles. Bryan’s status for Crown Jewel is still very much up in the air, but word is that his role won’t be addressed until closer to the show regardless.

WWE Issues Statement On Daniel Bryan/John Cena Reportedly Refusing Crown Jewel Appearances

But it seems like John Cena and Daniel Bryan’s status is an even bigger question mark. After all, there were reports that WWE Creative was told Cena wasn’t doing the show and we can only assume that Bryan — given his many moral convictions doesn’t want to go either.

John Cena and Daniel Bryan gave for refusing to work the Crown Jewel event —- Daniel Bryan has a huge moral conviction to the idea and also has a public profile, but nowhere near to Cena’s. Since John Cena is a huge movie star already and slated to possibly become one of the biggest box office draws next to The Rock, his association with the country might be ill-timed.

Now Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that their sources have confirmed that Daniel Bryan has refused to go to the event and WWE has issued a statement saying:

“As always, we maintain an open line of communication with our performers and will address each situation accordingly.”

Bryan Alvarez discussed this on Wrestling Observer Live where he discussed the idea of these two huge (and still advertised) Superstars saying that they’re not headed to Riyadh Saudi Arabia.

“Now, Monday and Tuesday the feeling was that the show was in great jeopardy of not taking place in Saudi Arabia. It’s possible that they said, “We’re not doing the show in Saudi Arabia” and the company said, ‘It’s probably not taking place in Saudi Arabia so let’s keep the matches’ and that’s what they did.”

“Now it seems they’re absolutely going to Saudi Arabia so on Monday and Tuesday we’ll find out if there’s anything from that story. It’s been days and WWE hasn’t said anything about that story. But on Monday and Tuesday if they shoot angles taking them off the show, then you’ll know why.”

Alvarez also said that if Cena and Bryan end up going to Saudi Arabia then there is nothing to the story. Then again, it could still be true but WWE was willing to pull a bigger money truck (that’s a truck full of money) up to their homes.

Only time will tell what happens next, but it seems like we’re in the middle of another wait and see kind of situation. But for sure — unless something else happens like Vince McMahon gets a call from President Trump telling him to cancel the Crown Jewel event or move it (which isn’t likely) we’ll still see Crown Jewel take place in Saudi Arabia.

News On John Cena & Daniel Bryan Refusing To Go To Saudi Arabia For WWE Crown Jewel, Event In Jeopardy

It was reported on Monday that John Cena and Daniel Bryan are refusing to work the WWE Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia on November 2nd by Barstool Sports’ Robbie Fox. Cena is one of the eight Superstars to compete in the World Cup tournament, while Bryan is scheduled to face AJ Styles for the WWE Championship.

In an update to those reports, Dave Meltzer reported on the most recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that while he hasn’t heard anything about Bryan, the WWE creative team was told on Monday afternoon that Cena wouldn’t be taking part in the tournament and needed to be replaced. It’s not known if something had changed since then or if they feel that Cena will change his mind if the location is changed, but Cena was once again advertised to compete in the World Cup tournament on RAW later that night.

Meltzer also noted that the Saudi Arabia event is in jeopardy, and said that as things stand, it is a lot less likely to happen than it was last week. Tickets for the show were scheduled to go on sale last Friday, but never did.

WrestleVotes, who has broken several WWE scoops in the last year or so, reports that the show is back in “wait & see” mode. Regarding Cena being advertised for the World Cup on RAW last night, WWE may have kept Cena in the promos because officials want him to reconsider his decision or because Cena would end up being a part of the event if they decide to move locations. Update On Daniel Bryan’s WWE Contract Status

Daniel Bryan has just signed his new WWE contract, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The two sides have agreed on terms. Daniel Bryan signed the deal a few days ago but WWE had not signed the contract as of Monday, but that’s just a formality and the deal should be official very soon if not this week. It had been almost a given that Bryan would re-sign for several weeks now.

Bryan’s previous deal expired on September 1. He spoke with Sky Sports in mid-August and revealed he would have wanted to leave the company if they didn’t clear him to wrestle earlier this year. Bryan also revealed that there was likely a clause in the deal that would have legally allowed WWE to keep him for one more year.

“What we just found out recently is that they have an option year,” Bryan said.

Bryan is scheduled to team with Brie Bella to face The Miz and Maryse at the September 16 Hell In a Cell pay-per-view. Bryan will then face Miz with a future WWE title shot on the line at the October 6 Super Show-Down event from Australia.

WWE Champion AJ Styles, U.S. Champion Shinsuke Nakamura, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson are all set to have their contracts expire in early 2019, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. Meltzer noted that they all had signed three-year deals with WWE in 2016, and Styles and Nakamura’s deals expire in January.

Meltzer noted that New Japan Pro Wrestling has “absolute interest” in bringing Nakamura back to the company. With NJPW’s expansion, Nakamura’s name value has increased dramatically since his WWE debut.

The Orlando crowd erupted into cheers at the 2016 Royal Rumble pay-per-view event when Styles made his WWE debut. Styles held the WWE Championship for 140 days before the year was over, giving him a great start to his WWE career. He is still WWE Champion in his second run with the title, and addressed the idea of re-signing with WWE during a March 2018 interview with Raute Musik.

“I don’t see why not if I can do what I do,” Styles said. “Like, if I can still be AJ Styles, then I would like to keep working in the WWE in a talent form. So as long as I can keep going, then I would like to keep working there.”

Daniel Bryan’s WWE contract expires on September 1st.

Backstage News On Why Team Hell No Was Attacked At WWE Extreme Rules, Announcement On Kane By Marc Middleton | July 15, 2018

Image result for Harper and Rowan attacked Kane and Daniel Bryan backstage at Extreme Rules

Last night’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view saw Team Hell No lose to SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers in a match that Kane barely worked. Earlier in the night WWE did a backstage segment where Harper and Rowan attacked Kane and Daniel Bryan backstage. Bryan later started the match by himself and worked it until Kane came out limping with a foot brace on.

Kane was attacked in the backstage segment to cover up a legitimate injury to his left foot, according to PWInsider. The WWE veteran was seen wearing a walking boot earlier in the day backstage at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

There’s no word yet on when Kane may be back in action or when he suffered the foot injury but WWE announced a storyline injury update after Extreme Rules went off the air and said he suffered a broken ankle in the match. You can see their announcement below:

It’s looking more and more like Daniel Bryan will be re-signing with WWE once his current contract expires on Saturday, September 1st.

Bryan is now being advertised for the WWE European tour in November, as well for the December 26th WWE live event from Madison Square Garden. We’ve noted how Bryan was also announced for the WWE Super Show-Down event from Australia on October 6th, which will air on the WWE Network.

It should be noted that WWE’s website also has Bryan listed for all SmackDown live events after September 1st.

The day his contract expires, September 1st, Bryan is advertised for the WWE live event at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. He is scheduled for the live event the following night in Kalamazoo, MI, that Monday’s live event in Saginaw, MI and the next night’s SmackDown taping at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on September 4th. For all of those shows he’s scheduled to team with WWE Champion AJ Styles and WWE United States Champion Jeff Hardy to face The Miz, Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe.

WWE event listings are always subject to change but it is interesting that Bryan is being booked for several shows scheduled for later this year.

Daniel Bryan Sets WWE Royal Rumble Record

Daniel Bryan set a new WWE Royal Rumble record in the Greatest Royal rumble match in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Bryan entered the match at number 1 and was in the final three with Big Cass and the winner Brain Strowman. Bryan lasted 1 hour, 16 minutes and 5 seconds before being eliminated by Big Cass.

WWE issued the following statement on Bryan’s record setting performance:

Daniel Bryan sets Royal Rumble Match record

Daniel Bryan may not have won the first-ever 50-man Greatest Royal Rumble Match, but he did make history.

Mere weeks after returning to the ring following a three-year hiatus, the former WWE Champion set a record for the longest time spent in a Royal Rumble Match. Entering in the No. 1 spot, Bryan fought his way through all 50 entrants, making it to the final three.

All told, Bryan was in the match for a staggering one hour and 16 minutes. This shatters the record previously held by Rey Mysterio, who lasted for one hour, two minutes and 12 seconds in the 2006 Royal Rumble Match, which Mysterio won.

Bryan was eliminated by Big Cass, who was tossed by winner Braun Strowman. The “Yes!” Man will have an opportunity to get some retribution against the big man, though, when the two Superstars collide at WWE Backlash on Sunday, May 6 on WWE Network.
