Punk-Cabana Libel Trial Against WWE Doc Begins, Jurors Listen To Controversial Podcast Episode

cm punk colt cabana trial podcast interview dr chris amann wwe

Testimony began Tuesday in the libel trial pitting CM Punk and Colt Cabana against a WWE doctor and during proceedings jurors had to listen to the famous podcast at the center of the lawsuit.

Gregory Pratt of the Chicago Tribune reports jurors heard the 2014 “Art of Wrestling” interview where Punk alleged Dr. Christopher Amann knowingly allowed him to work through serious injuries and misdiagnosed a staph infection — among other issues.

Pratt reports Punk was largely serious and attentive, but there were times where he seemed visibly amused at certain parts of the podcast.

At one point, Amann’s lawyer read tweets and news stories calling for the doctor to be fired.

The WWE doctor is asking for $1 million in damages.  Pratt expects Amann to continue testifying Wednesday when the trial resumes. Additionally, due to court obligations, Colt will be unable to attend a Compound Pro Wrestling Event this Friday in Oklahoma — so the event has been postponed.

CM Punk Was Allegedly Backstage During “All In” Press Conference

The rumor mill surrounding CM Punk making an appearance at “All In” is about to go into overdrive … because the ex-WWE champ was apparently backstage during the show’s press conference.

Jenn Sterger — who hosted the conference — spilled the beans during an interview on the latest Collider Bodyslam podcast.

“If you got your tickets at face value for this event, I’m just saying it literally might be the best in the world,” Sterger told the show. “I will only say someone wearing sweatpants and training for something walked into the back of the building that the press conference was in — with marks, mind you, lining the entire sidewalks in the front of the building — and I just kept thinking ‘if they knew you were back here, they would literally tear down the front of the store.’”

The host says CM Punk was allegedly there to pick up shirts from Pro Wrestling Tees, but none of the people involved in the event would confirm or deny if he’d be making an appearance at All In.

With a scheduled signing the day before the event, and the fact he lives in Chicago, Jenn told the show that she thinks it only makes sense for the UFC fighter to be there. Adding, “What better way — if you were going to make your return to wrestling — than the biggest indie show ever?”

CM Punk Reportedly In Talks To Face Another Winless Fighter At UFC 225 In Chicago

After competing in his first UFC fight on September 10, 2016, UFC is reportedly in discussions to have CM Punk return after a nearly two-year hiatus. According to MMA Fighting, UFC is planning on returning to Chicago for UFC 225 and have native CM Punk (0-1) fight Mike Jackson (0-1).

UFC announced on February 3rd that they will be returning to Chicago for UFC 225. Just moments later, Punk teased interest in competing on the card.

CM Punk made the decision to quit WWE, and subsequently wrestling altogether, after being involved in a feud with corporate Kane during the time of the 2014 Royal Rumble. Punk was the first entrant, and lasted over 49 minutes before being eliminated by Kane. Despite being scheduled to appear on RAW the following night, Punk never showed up, and decided to leave the company. Punk then set his sights on MMA and locked in a bout with Mickey Gall at UFC 203. Unfortunately, Punk tapped out via a rear naked choke 2:14 in the first round.

Following this fight, Dana White felt that he maybe should not have his next fight in the UFC.

“He probably shouldn’t have his next fight in the UFC,” the UFC President told Fight Network’s John Pollock. “Just like I said with Brock, having your first fight in the UFC is tough and you [saw] tonight, even if it’s against a guy who is 2-0. This is a tough place to learn.”

Now, White looks to be willing to give Punk another chance inside the Octagon.

“I like that guy. He’s a good dude,” White told the Associated Press in January. “He wants to give it another shot. I’m going to give it to him. He’s a completely different case than most normal human beings. So, I’m going to give him another shot.”

CM Punk and Mike Jackson share two glaring similarities. Along with both being 0-1 in the UFC, both lost to Mickey Gall in 2016 via rear naked choke in the first round. While Punk lasted over two minutes against Gall, Jackson submitted in only 45 seconds to a rear-naked choke.

CM Punk Offered $1 Million To Work UK Indie Tournament

The Sun reports that 5 Star Wrestling promoter Daniel Hinkles is offering $1 million to former WWE Champion CM Punk to make a return to the ring on 5 Star’s 128-man tournament that begins on June 10th in Liverpool.

Hinkles said:

“We’ve been trying to contact CM Punk on and off for well over a year. We wanted him on the first show we did in Edinburgh in 2015. I’ve tried going through friends in the industry, I’ve gone through his website and sent dozens of emails but the opportunity has never been this big. We want to offer CM Punk $1 million dollars (£770,000) to come and join the 5 Star Wrestling tour starting June 10th. It’s a genuine offer. We’d love to hear back from the man himself. We want to do this with him.”

Punk has been away from pro wrestling since leaving WWE in January 2014. He lost his MMA debut for UFC in September 2016 and has hoped to make another return to the Octagon but nothing has been announced.

The 5 Star promoter continued:

“It doesn’t get more credible than CM Punk. We all know that if he ever comes back to wrestling it will be one of those epic moments – I want that to be with 5 Star Wrestling, right here in the UK. A common saying in the wrestling world is that the UK has the best fans, well how about we give them the biggest moments too. We are hugely ambitious. When we ask the fans who they want to see, CM Punk’s name is on everybody’s wish list and we’re willing to spend big to make it happen. I know he is seemingly focused on MMA at the moment and this wouldn’t have to end that, but wrestling is in his blood and $1 million has to be worth thinking about.”

The Rock Leaves Voicemail For CM Punk To Please Audience After Raw Ends (VIDEO)

rock cm punk call voicemail after raw video

It’s been a long time, but chants for CM Punk ended in a good moment tonight after Raw in Los Angeles — because they caused The Rock to call him on the phone in the center of the ring.

Dwayne Johnson appeared in front of the live crowd after the show to direct them on which reaction shots were needed for the movie they were filming.

It was first reported last week that a scene for the upcoming flick about Paige’s life Fighting With My Family would be filmed at the Staples Center. When the scene was revealed to be Paige’s debut in WWE and Dwayne mentioned the name AJ Lee, a loud CM Punk chant broke out.

And The Rock, being a man of the people, obliged by saying he’d give him a ring.

Punk didn’t answer, so the entire Staples Center left him a voicemail, and Punk responded on Twitter shortly after the show by saying, “Thanks Los Angeles. Nice to hear from you.”

News On CM Punk Possibly Fighting In UFC Again

CM Punk recently appeared on The MMA Hour and revealed that he recently met with UFC President Dana White and said that he wants to fight again. He noted that they’ve been going back and forth, and that an announcement may be coming soon.

Punk’s coach, Duke Roufus, also recently appeared on The MMA Hour and said that it was “looking hopeful” that Punk would fight in the UFC again, possibly as soon as “four to five months.”

“Yeah, definitely, I believe he and Dana are talking,” Roufus said. “I just talked to Punk on Monday before that, and things are looking hopeful. I can’t say yes or no, but they’re looking hopeful. We’re going to see. Dana’s always got a good recipe of what he’s going to create, and what’s best for the sport, and what’s best for Punk and everyone else.”

Punk suffered a one-sided loss in his UFC debut to Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September. Gall submitted Punk in just 2 minutes and 45 seconds of the first round with a rear-naked choke. Roufus noted that Punk didn’t perform the way that he would have liked against Gall, but said that he was getting better.

“He’s going to get better,” Roufus said. “Obviously, he didn’t perform the way we wanted to perform. We had some things he was doing really well with, he just didn’t happen. It’s just going to take time. But the great thing is he has an incredible attitude, and he’s very thankful for the opportunities. He’s getting better, he’s back in training and right after this fight I’ll picking up big time with him.”

CM Punk Done In The UFC?

As seen below, UFC President Dana White appeared on FOX Sports 1 and commented on CM Punk’s UFC future. In regards to Punk having another fight, White said, “…probably not. But he wanted to try it. I like the guy, I respect the guy. He wanted to fight in the UFC. He wanted to do it, he trained for two years and he did it.”

The former WWE Champion trained for 2 years to make his UFC debut and quickly lost in the first round to Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September. Punk indicated then that he won’t give up and is hoping for a second fight.

CM Punk Gets Destroyed In His UFC Debut, Cuts Great Promo After – ‘Cult Of Personality’ Entrance

CM Punk made his UFC debut at UFC 203 tonight, and the fight went pretty much as most expected.

Punk’s opponent, Mickey Gall, got his wish and came out to “Oh Mickey, You’re So Fine,” which UFC President Dana White had nixed earlier this week, but changed his mind after fan backlash. Punk got a great pop coming out to his old wrestling theme, “Cult of Personality.”

Almost immediately, Punk was taken down. Gall landed some hard ground and pound and got his back. Punk escaped Gall’s first attempt at a rear naked choke, but was forced to submit to the second at 2:14 of the first round. Punk’s face and ear were a mess after the fight.

After the fight, Gall refused to say anything bad about Punk, instead saying that there’s too much hate and to “f–k the hate, we’re all going to be dead in a hundred years.” He said the fight was a great opportunity, then called out Sage Northcutt, stating that he was “corny.”

Despite the mauling, Punk spoke to Joe Rogan after the fight and said that he still plans to fight again.

“In life you go big or you go home, I just like to take challenges,” Punk said. “This was a hell of a mountain to try to climb and I didn’t get to the summit today, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to give up.

“I will be back, believe it or not, this was the most fun I’ve ever had,” Punk continued. “It was the second best day of my life after marrying my wife. I know there’s a lot of doubters, but life’s about falling down and getting up. It doesn’t matter how many times you get knocked down, it’s about getting back up. So if there’s any kid out there who’s told be a parent, a teacher or a coach or somebody that they’re supposed to look up to, somebody that’s supposed to push them and believe in them and they’re told no, Visit Wrestling Inc.,don’t listen to them. Believe in yourself. Sometimes the outcome isn’t always what you desire it to be, but the true failure in life is not trying at all. I know that sounds preachy and kind of weird for a guy that just got beat up, but f–k it. This is the time of my life, thank you Cleveland!”
