Brock Lesnar Vs. Daniel Cormier UFC Fight Not Happening?

It looks like the UFC fight between WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier might not happen.

The fight was expected for early 2019 but UFC President Dana White told TMZ that he’s not sure if the fight will happen.

White wants Cormier to fight Jon Jones, although Cormier’s camp wants him to retire.

“I’d obviously like to see Jones and Cormier fight again at heavyweight,” White said. “Cormier’s team wants him to retire now. They want him to retire right now. I hope we can get 3 more fights out of him.”

Cormier has noted in media interviews that he wants to retire on his 40th birthday, which would be March 20.

It will be interesting to see if Cormier ends up with WWE if he retires from MMA. Cormier had a WWE commentary tryout planned recently, but he had to postpone it when his UFC 230 fight was booked.

“[WWE] called me. They reached out to my assistant. It was WWE, not Fox. They called me about going to Orlando, Florida,” Cormier told Busted Open Radio earlier this month. “I had a tentative date, but then I couldn’t make that date. Afterward, they asked me to go back but they were on tour or something for a month, and I was like, I want to do it with the entire commentary team. I don’t want to do it with one guy here and one guy there because I wanted to see who I can mesh with, and they were like, okay let’s schedule it in November.

“But then I took this [UFC 230] fight and then it got pushed back again. We will revisit this. I am going to Orlando to the Performance Center to do my gig to see how it works out. I am very passionate about pro wrestling. I have watched it my whole life. You can YouTube my reaction to when Seth Rollins won the World Championship at WrestleMania 31. I am very passionate. It is what I like to do. Since I was a kid I liked watching wrestling and is a dream to be able to do something with them in the future.”

Nia Jax And Brock Lesnar Reportedly Have Backstage Heat

Image result for Brock Lesnar And Nia Jax backstage heat

Nia Jax does have some backstage heat on her for the injuries to SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Live.

As we’ve noted, Becky suffered a severe concussion and broken nose during Monday’s RAW invasion angle after taking a stiff shot from Jax. The injuries forced Becky to name Charlotte Flair as her replacement for Sunday’s WWE Survivor Series match against RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey.

The heat on Jax has to do with how this isn’t the first time she’s caused an injury to another Superstar. There’s a feeling that she is unsafe in the ring.

On a related note, Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he’s heard from more wrestlers complaining about WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar than Jax. Apparently there was some talk on how dangerous and reckless Lesnar’s German suplexes to Sunil Singh were on this week’s RAW. However, Singh didn’t get hurt badly and wasn’t forced to pull out of a match that everyone was looking forward to.

Regarding the heat on Lesnar, Meltzer noted that there’s frustration over the reality that Lesnar is pretty much bulletproof in the company. It sounds like the heat on Lesnar is more from his co-workers, while the heat on Jax could be from officials and other talents.

New WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is reportedly scheduled for WrestleMania 35 under his new deal, according to MMAFighting.com.

There had been some speculation on Lesnar being done at the 2019 Royal Rumble pay-per-view but that’s not the case. Lesnar’s new deal is said to be for multiple events but the length of the deal has been kept quiet.

Lesnar’s new WWE deal reportedly allows him to fight for the UFC but there’s no word yet on if he still plans to fight UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier while he’s signed to WWE.

Backstage News On Brock Lesnar’s WWE Return And Hell In A Cell Main Event Finish

Brock Lesnar made a surprise return to WWE during the main event of last night’s WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view in San Antonio, TX. Dave Meltzer noted on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that Lesnar is scheduled to wrestle at the upcoming WWE show in Saudi Arabia on Friday, November 2nd.

Lesnar destroyed Braun Strowman and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns during their Hell In A Cell match, which resulted in the match ending in a draw. The pay-per-view went off the air with Strowman and Reigns laid out in the ring. Meltzer noted that the non-finish was always the plan for the match, and the deal with Lesnar was something that had been in the works for a little while and was not put together at the last minute.

Lesnar is still scheduled to fight UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier early next year. In addition to Lesnar wrestling at the Saudi Arabia event, Shawn Michaels is expected to come out of retirement at the show for a tag team match.

Brock Lesnar Confirmed For WWE SummerSlam

Brock Lesnar has been confirmed for next month’s SummerSlam pay-per-view, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer. His opponent for the show has not been confirmed.

It will be Lesnar’s first match since defending his WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at The Greatest Royal Rumble event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this past April. It will reportedly be the final match of Lesnar’s current WWE contract and he is expected to face UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier next year. Lesnar set up the future fight by shoving Cormier after his UFC Heavyweight Championship victory at UFC 226 this past Saturday. He had put himself back in the USADA drug-testing pool last Tuesday, making him eligible to fight again for the UFC after January 8, 2019.

WWE SummerSlam will take place on Sunday, August 19 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Brock Lesnar Re-Enters USADA Testing Pool

Brock Lesnar showed up at UFC 226 this past Saturday and was invited into the Octagon by Daniel Cormier. Lesnar proceeded to shove the new UFC Heavyweight Champion and cut a promo ripping the UFC Heavyweight Division.

“I walked into this building and watched the Heavyweight disasters from the beginning,” Lesnar said. “Ngannou’s a piece of s–t, Miocic, the piece of s–t, DC… I’m coming for you motherf–ker.”

After the incident, UFC President Dana White said that the company was “definitely going to make that fight.”

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reports that Lesnar has re-entered the USADA testing pool in preparation for another fight. According to MMAJunkie.com, Lesnar re-joined the USADA testing pool on July 3rd. Lesnar still has around six months remaining in his suspension after failing a pair of drug tests following his UFC 200 fight against Mark Hunt. Lesnar had defeated Hunt via unanimous decision, however the result was changed to a no-contest. He will be eligible to fight again on or after January 8, 2019.

Lesnar is still WWE Universal Champion and has one match left on his contract, according to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer. His next match has yet to be officially announced by WWE.

Dana White ‘Definitely’ Making Brock Lesnar Vs. Daniel Cormier, Video Of Confrontation At UFC 226

Image result for Cormier calls out Lesnar at UFC 226

The UFC is going full-steam ahead with plans of putting Brock Lesnar and Daniel Cormier together inside the Octagon. After Cormier defeated Stipe Miocic Saturday night at UFC 226 to become the heavyweight champion, he called out Lesnar, the reigning WWE Universal champion. Lesnar had sat Octagon-side as “DC” knocked out Miocic.

The two became involved in a brief shoving match before officials separated them. Lesnar, according to White, will need six months of clean testing in the USADA pool to become eligible to fight, meaning the bout is likely for early 2019.

“We’re definitely going to make that fight,” White said. “He’s going to pop up (in the USADA testing) here Monday or Tuesday.”

Cormier, who is also the current UFC light heavyweight champion, mentioned during his post-fight press conference a desire to fight again this year before concluding his career in 2019. That could mean a title defense of his 205-pound belt before facing Lesnar for the heavyweight championship.

“I fight Brock Lesnar, I get paid,” said Cormier, who added he is only interested in big fights to finish his career.

Backstage Update On When Brock Lesnar’s New WWE Contract Expires

Image result for Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 34

As noted earlier, via Wrestling Observer Radio, the new contract for WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar was made on the Monday before WrestleMania 34 at the go-home RAW in Atlanta and was signed on Sunday before the match in New Orleans. This is a new deal and not an extension of the previous deal. Very few people knew about the new deal and Roman Reigns though the was winning the title until the day of the big event. The original ending to the match had Reigns coming off the ropes and getting caught with the F5, but he was to counter it into a Spear for the pin and the win. They changed that finish and went with Lesnar hitting the F5 for the pin. The match went as planned and no one went off-script.

Regarding the length of the new contract, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that it is not listed as a one-match deal but it does end before SummerSlam in August. The new deal allows Lesnar to negotiate one UFC fight while under contract with WWE but the fight would take place after the deal expires.

Lesnar’s new deal also includes a significant pay raise. Lesnar is set to defend the title against Roman Reigns in a Steel Cage match at the April 27th Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia and there will likely be other dates between now and August but the two sides will be right back where they started once it expires. It’s always possible that a new deal is signed later this year.

On a related note, while almost no one knew of the finish at WrestleMania, Paul Heyman was aware of who would win. The Observer adds that most talent contracts are handled by Triple H and Talent Relations but Lesnar deals with Vince McMahon. As we’ve noted, Heyman has also just signed a new short-term deal with WWE.

Backstage News On When Brock Lesnar Signed New WWE Contract, If He Went Off-Script At WrestleMania

Image result for Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 34

WWE officially announced this past Monday that Brock Lesnar signed a new contract with WWE.

According to Dave Meltzer on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, the agreement for a new deal was made on the Monday before WrestleMania 34 at the go-home episode of RAW and was signed on Sunday before the match. It’s a new contract, not an extension of his existing deal, and is at a higher rate. Meltzer noted that it’s not known if the new deal is a one-match contract or for more than that.

The agreement was kept quiet and very few people knew about it. Meltzer stated that Roman Reigns found out about it on the day of WrestleMania, and had thought he would be winning the title from Lesnar up until that point. The original ending was supposed to have Reigns coming off the ropes and get put into an F5, however he would counter it into a spear and pin Lesnar to win the match. It was changed to Lesnar hitting the F5 and beating Reigns.

The match went off as planned, and nobody went off-script.

It was reported earlier in the week that the new deal allows for Lesnar to fight in the UFC. Obviously, if it’s a one-match contract, then it’s a moot point anyway.

Meltzer also noted that Lesnar has yet to re-enter the USADA testing pool. Lesnar was suspended by the USADA for testing positive for a banned substance, estrogen blocker clomiphene, in an out-of-competition test and in-competition test prior to his fight with Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in 2016. Lesnar was suspended for one year by USADA, however the suspension was frozen after Lesnar announced his retirement from MMA. Lesnar still has six months of his suspension to complete once he re-enters the USADA testing pool, so if Lesnar is serious about returning to the UFC, it’s unclear why he has yet to re-enter the pool.
