Bobby Lashley Destroys Swerve Strickland In AEW Debut Following Dynamite Main Event

The Hurt Syndicate may be near completion, as Bobby Lashley made his AEW debut following the main event of “AEW Dynamite” Wednesday night, after reports of his signing emerged back when Shelton Benjamin officially became “All Elite.” The main event saw former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland take on Benjamin, with MVP at ringside, who relentlessly taunted Prince Nana throughout the bout. The match was made following Strickland’s decision to stay with his manager rather than join MVP’s new stable.

The match was Strickland’s first following his brutal loss against “Hangman” Adam Page in an unsanctioned steel cage match at All Out. Strickland started off the match hot, but Benjamin quickly took control for a good portion of the bout. When Strickland was able to battle back, he hit the House Call and went to the top rope, but hit a 450 Splash instead of a Swerve Stomp. Benjamin kicked out and quickly got Strickland into a waist lock. Strickland hit a desperation cutter and took them both out. Strickland got back to the top, but Benjamin followed, and Strickland countered with a Liger Bomb. He followed up with the Swerve Stomp to get the victory.

The camera then panned to MVP at ringside, who made a call while staring down Strickland in the ring. The lights went out quickly, then Lashley’s music hit. He got in the ring and got face-to-face with Strickland, and Benjamin distracted Strickland, taking him out and both men beat up the former champion. MVP choked out Nana with his cane, and Lashley got Strickland in a full nelson hold and made him pass out. Referees and security came running down to the ring, and MVP got on the microphone to ask the fans to guess “who’s back in business” as the show ended.

Shelton Benjamin Debuts On AEW Dynamite, He & Bobby Lashley Both Reportedly All Elite

Shelton Benjamin is back on our screens, and according to Fightful Select, he may not be alone.

After over a year of absence from any major televised promotion, Benjamin appeared alongside MVP on Wednesday’s five-year anniversary edition of “AEW Dynamite.” Benjamin was introduced by MVP as the “President of the Complaints Division,” after Prince Nana attempted to air his grievances during one of MVP’s backstage segments. Benjamin did little to assuage Nana’s actual complaints, instead electing to steal Nana’s cup of coffee as he walked off-screen with MVP.

Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley was not present on Wednesday’s episode of “Dynamite,” but his AEW debut is reportedly “impending.” Benjamin’s AEW debut and Lashley’s alleged signing lends more credence to recent discussions of a revitalized Hurt Business in AEW. It is believed that the newly-christened “Hurt Syndicate” will mainly see MVP in a managerial capacity, with Benjamin and Lashley performing as in-ring competitors.

After MVP made his AEW debut on the September 25 episode of “Dynamite,” he has been attempting to recruit several of AEW’s top stars, including former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland and current TBS Champion and NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Mercedes Moné. Whether Strickland or Moné will accept MVP’s invitation to The Hurt Syndicate remain unclear.

Before his AEW debut, Benjamin had been appearing in a global array of independent promotions, including the UK-based PROGRESS Wrestling and Deadlock Pro Wrestling. Lashley has gone the opposite route, remaining absent from the wrestling world since his WWE contract expired in August 2024. Any further details about Benjamin or Lashley’s AEW deal, including exclusivity and length, have yet to be disclosed.

WWE’s Bobby Lashley Reveals He Recently Had Surgery After ‘Freak Accident’ In France

Bobby Lashley’s time with WWE has come to an end, as he and former associate MVP have officially been moved to WWE’s “Alumni Section” on its website. This means that his last WWE match didn’t even happen on TV. Lashley was last seen in the ring at a WWE Live event in France on May 5, where he managed to pick up a win over Santos Escobar, despite suffering an injury during the bout.

On the “Laboratory” podcast, Lashley opened up about what he’s been doing since his last match, revealing that he had to go under the knife following the injury. “I had surgery. So a little boo boo happened in France during the match, just a freak accident. After that, I had my surgery, they told me I wasn’t suppose to be back for like six months. Six weeks, I had the brace off, I’m working out, my physical therapist is like ‘you’re not supposed to be able to do that,’ and I said ‘I’m different. I’m different bro.’ Like I’m working out, I’m lifting, and I don’t even think I’m two months out of surgery now, and I’m hitting it pretty hard. So I think I’ll be ready clear in less than a month.”

Regardless of where Lashley wrestles his next match, his comments about working out extra hard correlate to the reports that he will continue wrestling even after leaving WWE. Rumors have already surfaced about a potential Hurt Business reunion in AEW, but at the time of writing, Lashley’s future has still not yet been confirmed.

Details On WWE Status Of Bobby Lashley, MVP

Word emerged over the weekend that Bobby Lashley’s WWE contract is expiring in the near future, with the veteran wrestler said to have been removed from the company’s internal roster. PWInsider has some additional information on Lashley’s status, as well as that of his former manager MVP. WWE reportedly offered Lashley a new contract, but the 48-year-old wasn’t overly excited by the details and is expected to depart.

As for MVP, his current deal is said to end in mid-August, with no “major discussions” about bringing him back thus far. There had previously been talks about using MVP as an announcer or producer, but neither of those plans materialized.

It’s believed that both Lashley and MVP will generate interest from outside companies following their departure. The two were previously key members of The Hurt Business, a popular WWE faction that many fans felt was broken up prematurely, and the group could see a return outside of the promotion.

Though the Hurt Business name is trademarked by WWE, there would be nothing stopping a company like AEW from utilizing the group under a different moniker. The Hurt Business also included Shelton Benjamin, who was released from his WWE contract last year, as well as Cedric Alexander, who is still with the company.

PWInsider’s story does contradict the initial Fightful report in one way, stating that Lashley is still listed on the internal “WWE SmackDown” roster. However, Lashley hasn’t wrestled on television since April and hasn’t accompanied the Street Profits during their “SmackDown” appearances. Lashley and the Street Profits had previously been working together as a trio, known as The Pride, first formed in 2023.

Bobby Lashley Trying To Get Medically Cleared For WrestleMania

Bobby Lashley could still have a match at WrestleMania 38 despite very serious injury.

Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley is reportedly racing to get fit and medically cleared for WrestleMania 38.

Lashley suffered a very real shoulder injury during his match vs. Brock Lesnar at last month’s Royal Rumble that might require an operation and would keep him out for at least four months. However, WWE kept advertising him for their Elimination Chamber match that took place in Saudi Arabia on February 19 before he was eventually removed.

He was also being advertised for the live event set for next Saturday at Madison Square Garden and references to him were only pulled a few days ago.

Per the Wrestling Observer Newsletter: “WWE Live: Road to WrestleMania is set for Madison Square Garden on Saturday, March 5, a show that was originally advertised as being headlined by Brock Lesnar defending the WWE Championship against Lashley. The advertising has been changed to simply state that Lesnar will defend the WWE title on the show, with all references to Lashley removed.”

According to Ringside News (H/T WrestleTalk), the All Mighty is trying to get medically cleared for both the house show and WrestleMania.

Lashley is understood to have received consultation on the shoulder from WWE doctors in Birmingham, Alabama and WrestleVotes has reported that things are still very fluid as it pertains to the plans for WM38.

WWE could be keeping the door open should the superstar get cleared in time. Whether he is able to get clearance to perform sooner rather than later remains to be seen. It would take quite an effort.

Bobby Lashley May Require Shoulder Surgery

WWE released a storyline update on Bobby Lashley after today’s WWE Elimination Chamber event from the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Lashley had entered concussion protocol.

According to former WWE writer Kazeem Famuyide from The Ringer Wrestling Show, Bobby Lashley is actually dealing with a legitimate shoulder injury and could be out of action for a while. The injury reportedly happened at the Royal Rumble against Brock Lesnar.

“I have it under good authority that Bobby Lashley is shoot hurt and has been hurt since the Rumble match,” Kazeem Famuyide revealed. “If you noticed he hasn’t worked any RAWs. He hasn’t really defended his title. He was shoot hurt at the [Brock] Lesnar  Rumble match. Again, I was wondering how they were going to work him in there while being hurt. I’m assuming this concussion protocol thing is the way to get him out there.

“From what I’m told, it’s for at least four months. Shoulder surgery. I’m hearing that he might not even make it to Mania. From what I’m told he is shoot hurt and should be out for some time.”

Goldberg Returns On Raw, Confronts WWE Champion Bobby Lashley

Goldberg has indeed returned to Raw, confronting Bobby Lashley and declaring himself to be next on the WWE Champion’s list of contenders.

The rumors were true. Goldberg has returned to Raw after more than a year away, confronting WWE Champion Bobby Lashley.

Bobby Lashley, still riding the high of squashing Kofi Kingston on Sunday night, also issued an open challenge for the WWE Title. That prompted the return of Keith Lee to a very big pop in his home state. Lee didn’t become WWE Champion, but at least he’s back after more than five months of uncertainty.

Moments after successfully fending off one challenger, Lashley’s next one emerged. Yes, the rumors were true, Goldberg is back once again. The Hall of Famer’s music hit and once he was in the ring, Goldberg got up in Lashley’s face and declared “I’m next”. Lashley appeared to want to go there and then, but was prevented from doing so by MVP.

Presumably, the plan is for Lashley and Goldberg to clash for the WWE Title at SummerSlam. Despite everything Goldberg has achieved in his career, winning the WWE Title still isn’t on his resume. He has been WCW Champion, won WWE’s World Heavyweight Title, and, of course, beat The Fiend to become Universal Champion prior to the start of the pandemic. The WWE Title is a championship that has evaded him his entire career.

Mid-way through the match, while cutting to commercial, a limousine was shown pulling up.

The match ultimately came to a no-contest ending when Lashley’s music hit and he hit the stage to taunt Rusev. Moments later, Lana joined Bobby onstage and they started their long steamy kissing session as Lana’s husband Rusev watched from the ring.

Bobby Lashley Reportedly Out Of Action Until November

WWE Superstar Bobby Lashley recently underwent elbow surgery, according to Pro Wrestling Sheet.
