The Beautiful People & Awesome Kong Returning To Impact Wrestling For 1,000th Episode

The Beautiful People & Awesome Kong will be making their returns for the 1,000th episode of Impact Wrestling, which takes place in White Plains, New York on September 9th.

Of course, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky (The Beautiful People) are former Knockouts Champions and former Knockouts Tag Team Champions. Awesome Kong has also held the Knockouts Championship and is inducted into the Impact Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee.

Awesome Kong Inducted Into IMPACT Hall Of Fame

IMPACT legend Awesome Kong has been inducted into the IMPACT Wrestling Hall Of Fame just a few weeks after announcing her retirement.

IMPACT legend Awesome Kong was present at the latest set of TV tapings, where she was inducted into the company’s Hall Of Fame.

The former Knockouts Champion was inducted during the Knockouts Knockdown on September 17 and dedicated her induction to her former IMPACT colleague Shannon Spruill (Daffney), who tragically passed away at the age of 46 earlier this month.

Kong announced her retirement from professional wrestling last month at EmPowerrr, the all-female pay-per-view produced by Mickie James in conjunction with Billy Corgan’s NWA.

During the event, Kong’s fellow legend and former IMPACT colleague Gail Kim addressed the crowd and commemorated the occasion. Kim was interrupted by Taryn Terrell, Jennacide, and Paola Blaze, who attempted to intimidate the former WWE Women’s Champion … until Awesome Kong made the save. “Only one thing could get me off my couch eating delicious ice cream bars,” Kong said to Gail, before telling her that she loved her. The soon-to-be IMPACT Hall Of Famer then stunned the crowd by revealing that she would be retiring from professional wrestling with immediate effect.

As a wrestler, Awesome Kong (real name, Kia Stevens) is best known for her time in IMPACT where she was a two-time TNA Knockouts Champion and a former TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champion. She left IMPACT in 2010 and joined WWE where she performed under the name Kharma. Kharma made her debut on May 1 at Extreme Rules, where she attacked Michelle McCool. She continued to attack former WWE Divas Champions on both Raw and SmackDown in the weeks that followed, but her angle was axed when she revealed that she was pregnant.

Stevens took a hiatus from wrestling to pursue an acting career which saw her cast as Tammé “The Welfare Queen” Dawson in the Netflix original comedy series GLOW.

While GLOW was still on the air, Stevens debuted for AEW as a surprise entrant in the women’s triple threat match at AEW’s inaugural Double or Nothing event, making it a Fatal 4-way match. Afterward, she was paired with Brandi Rhodes and the duo formed a stable known as The Nightmare Collective. The angle was poorly received and AEW pulled the plug on it soon after it began.

Awesome Kong’s influence on women’s wrestling cannot be understated and there can be no doubt that she and Gail Kim paved the way for what would later become known as the “Women’s Revolution.”

Awesome Kong Announces Her Retirement From Pro Wrestling At NWA EmPowerrr

During Saturday night’s NWA EmPowerrr pay-per-view, Awesome Kong announced that she is retiring from pro wrestling.

She made a surprise appearance at the event during a Gail Kim promo. Awesome Kong saved Gail Kim before an attack by Taryn Terrell, Jennacide, and Paola Blaze.

After that according to F4Wonline, she grabbed a microphone and told Gail Kim that she was her greatest foe and there was no other way to end her career than being in the ring with Kim. She then announced that she was done.

Awesome Kong is a former NWA Women’s Champion and a two-time Impact Knockouts Champion. She’s wrestled in several promotions such as Impact Wrestling, AEW, WWE, ROH, Shimmer, and All Japan Women’s Pro Wrestling.

Former WWE wrestler Kharma aka Awesome Kong would LOVE to take part in the inaugural women’s Royal Rumble, but she says no one has called her yet to make it happen.

Kong — better known now by real name Kia Stevens due to her role on GLOW — called in this week to Wrestling Sheet Radio and told the guys that she believes the fans deserve one final appearance from Kharma in the Rumble so she can gain closure on her WWE story.

When asked whether WWE has made contact yet, Stevens replied, “Not so far, no.”

For those who don’t recall … Kharma is one of three women who’ve compete in the men’s Royal Rumble.  She made an appearance in the 2012 Rumble match and was eliminated by Dolph Ziggler.

Check out THE FULL INTERVIEW to hear her initial reaction to the Royal Rumble announcement, who she’d like to face-off against in the match and more (including GLOW S2 tidbits).

For now though, listen to the clip below.

Update On Awesome Kong Teasing WWE Return

In the story about Awesome Kong teasing a return to WWE, I noted that she posted some video’s with messages on Instagram teasing a possible return to WWE.

I found a post on Twitter that she states that she doesn’t have an Instagram account, so apparently the Awesome Kong Instagram account is a fake.

She posted the following on Twitter:

Kong signed with WWE in 2010 and appeared on television in 2011 under the name Kharma. In May of 2011, she revealed that she was pregnant and thus forced to take a leave of absence from WWE. In July of 2012, she confirmed on Twitter that she had parted ways with WWE.She was recently released from TNA because of an incident between her and Reby Sky (Reby Sky Hardy) in Manchester, England during TNA’s tour of the UK.

Kong could just be having some fun on social media but if there was any chance of her signing her then she would have to pass WWE medical tests. Kong has been plagued with back issues in the last year.
