AEW Shares Photo Of Cody Rhodes’ Back After Lashings From MJF

Cody Rhodes received ten lashings from MJF to close Dynamite this week … and the photo shared by AEW afterward shows just how painful it was.

In case you missed it, MJF took his time doling out each crack of the belt as Cody’s friends and family took turns trying to console the AEW VP throughout the segment. This included Dustin Rhodes, Arn Anderson, The Young Bucks and his wife Brandi Rhodes.

After the show was over, AEW posted a picture on social media showing Cody’s back … and it’s brutal.

This was one of MJF’s stipulations in order for Cody to receive a match against him at Revolution. Rhodes will next have to face MJF’s henchman Wardlow in a steel cage match.

Luke Harper (Brodie Lee) Reportedly Making His AEW Debut Soon

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Brodie Lee, f.k.a. Luke Harper, is reportedly expected to make his AEW debut soon.

The 40 year old Lee is expected to sign a new AEW contract and then make his debut during their March 18 Dynamite episode from his hometown of Rochester, NY, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. He will likely go back to using the Brodie Lee name in AEW.

The Observer noted that Lee, who is scheduled to appear at WrestleCon during WrestleMania 36 Weekend in early April, will be able to legally start with any other promotion before March 18, but the idea is that it’s best to debut him in Rochester as he’s guaranteed to receive a major reaction there. It was previously reported that Harper, Sin Cara and The Ascension would see their WWE non-compete clauses expire on Sunday, March 8.

Lee filed to trademark the “Brodie Lee” ring name back on November 26, shortly before he was granted his WWE release on December 8, along with Sin Cara and The Ascension.

AEW Holds Their First-Ever Intergender Tag Team Match

Earlier this week, AEW announced their first-ever mixed tag team match with AEW Women’s Champion Riho and new AEW World Tag Team Champion Kenny Omega vs. Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford, to take place on AEW World Champion Chris Jericho’s cruise. It was noted that the match was somewhat of a tryout for the company as Omega wants to have more mixed tag team action in AEW, perhaps an entire division worth.

The match was held on Jericho’s “Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea” last night as the main event, which saw Omega and Riho get the win.

WWE only does male vs. male and female vs. female action in their mixed tag team matches, but this match was different as there was a good amount of intergender wrestling. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Live that there was a lot of spots with Omega vs. Ford and Riho vs. Sabian in the match.

Omega reportedly hit his Dragon Suplex on Ford at one point and word is that he didn’t hold back at all. Omega then cut a post-match promo in the ring and said the company wasn’t sure if this would be the first and last mixed tag team match in AEW as they weren’t sure how fans would react, but apparently the match was received well by the fans on the ship.

There’s no word yet on if AEW will be moving forward with the intergender division.
