AEW Stars May Face Legal Rammifications For Altercation After All Out

We are coming off the back of what might well have been the biggest weekend of wrestling so far this year. Clash at the Castle, Worlds Collide, and then All Out meant wrestling fans likely spent a lot of time in front of the TV over the two nights. However, the one thing everyone is talking about most coming out of that weekend didn’t even happen on those shows.

After All Out, CM Punk sat with Tony Khan for the post-show press conference and proceeded to air his true feelings about Hangman Page and a few of AEW‘s EVPs. That reportedly resulted in a physical altercation backstage right after during which Punk has been accused of throwing the first punch. Punk’s friend and trainer Ace Steel has also been accused of throwing a chair and biting Kenny Omega.

Some fans will still be hopeful that this is all a very elaborate work. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, that is not the case. Quite the contrary, and it’s entirely possible some of those involved in the fracas after All Out could face legal ramifications. “It is not a work at all, and you don’t have legal issues and police officers run in there [if it’s a work],” Dave Meltzer explained on WOR (H/T to WrestleTalk for the transcription).

What those legal ramifications are is currently unclear, but it means no one involved, and probably no one in the company, is allowed to talk about what happened. That may well mean we don’t hear anything from an official source, or from someone who was actually involved, for quite a while. Especially if anyone involved chooses to push forward with whatever these legal issues might be rather than sweeping them under the rug and trying to move forward for the sake of the company.

After weeks of rumors suggesting all was not well backstage in AEW, it exploding in such a public fashion is not a good look and not a good sign for the company’s future. What has likely been forgotten by many due to what has happened since is Punk is now the AEW Champion. If everyone can learn to get along, turning this into an angle and a match between Punk and Omega could be huge business. If those involved can’t move past it, it could spell disaster.

CM Punk Reportedly Throws Punches At Fellow AEW Star Following All Out Media Scrum

The CM Punk verbal explosion at the AEW media scrum for All Out on Sunday has turned physical. According to a report, the things Punk said during the media avail weren’t taken kindly by a few members of the AEW roster — specifically, a couple of the EVPs Punk talked about — and those verbals jabs turned into actual jabs backstage.

Per details provided by Boxing/MMA/Pro Wrestling reporter Steve Muehlhausen, Punk got into it backstage while the media scrum continued with reporters. Both Matt and Nick Jackson confronted Punk about what he said when Punk threw a handful of people under the bus and reports are that punches were thrown by Punk to at least one of The Young Bucks’ members. It was during the interview with Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee, and there is video footage on social media where one of the members of security is seen rushing through the media avail and backstage where allegedly the altercation was taking place. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez reported multiple sources saying there was “an altercation” between the two parties. Tony Khan was not informed of the situation until after the scrum wrapped up. The situation was described as “a melee”.

There have been no comments from either Punk or The Bucks about this online. What’s interesting about this is that Punk noted during the media speech: “if somebody has a problem with me, TELL ME”. Apparently, The Young Bucks took him up on it and things got physical.

Tony Khan was asked about the comments made and the rumors of issues between Punk and the EVPs Punk mentioned during the media avail. Khan called it a dicey situation and said he still believes The Elite are significant contributors behind the scenes and in front of the camera.

Motor City Machine Guns To Debut For AEW At All Out

Legendary Impact Wrestling and ROH tag team The Motor City Machine Guns will team up with Jay Lethal at AEW All Out.

Prior to this Wednesday night, fans understood the Wardlow and FTR to be lined up for a six-man tag team match at AEW All Out against Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh. However, after Lethal defeated Dax Harwood on Dynamite, Dutt got on the mic to claim they’d never said who would represent their team at the PPV. Rather than Dutt and Singh, it will be The Motor City Machine Guns, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley, joining Lethal.

Despite their tremendous talent, it’s possible for fans who’ve only followed WWE, WCW, and AEW to have not had The Motor City Machine Guns land on their radar. Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin are quite arguably the greatest tag team in Impact Wrestling history, in addition to stints in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor. They’re a fast-paced, high-flying team. Yes, they may have lost a step athletically since they first started being featured together fifteen years ago. The duo has the experience and ring savvy to still perform at high level, though, including staging one of the best matches of the night at the recent Ric Flair’s Last Match PPV opposite The Wolves.

It has yet to be seen if the pair will become AEW mainstays, be more associated with ROH, or if this will be a one-off booking. Nonetheless, the idea of them teaming with Jay Lethal has a great deal of promise.

Earlier this summer, FTR’s Cash Wheeler went on the record to say he wanted to face The Motor City Machine Guns. While this trios contest won’t be quite the same as a straight-up tag team match, Jay Lethal is an elite in-ring talent, and Wardlow is a good talent with a lot of momentum, not to mention a powerhouse who thrives on pulling off feats of strength working multiple opponents simultaneously. Add up these factors and the new line-up for this match is more promising than when it appeared Sonjay Dutta and Satnam Singh were involved.

The All Out card had just started taking shape in earnest. While there are still significant puzzle pieces to fill in, Wardlow and FTR vs. Jay Lethal and The Motor City Machine Guns offers and additional bout that might threaten to steal the show on September 4.

Cole reunited with his friends and said The Elite was the most dominant group in pro wrestling. Omega then went to do his signature sign-off and Danielson’s music hit. It was announced during Wednesday’s epsiode of Dynamite that Andrade El Idolo versus PAC will no longer be taking place and the match will have to be rescheduled. Adrade teased a potential new opponent but no names have been released and it’s not clear how AEW will proceed with the angle moving forward.

Tony Khan tweeted, “Thank you to you fans supporting #AEWDynamite LIVE next on TNT! The Women’s Casino Battle Royale, which was booked on the Buy In, will now be featured on the ALL OUT ppv card. Due to travel issues, the @BASTARDPAC vs. @AndradeElIdolo bout is postponed until a future #AEWRampage”. Following the announcement, Andrade started tweeting responses to the news. In one tweet he wrote, “I just wasted my time! It’s like in boxing, when they don’t make weight, the fighter has to be fined a sum of money Or is he just not ready to face me and he wants more time!” In another tweet he asked who he’ll be facing.

It’s unfortunate news for fans who were looking forward to this match. It was arguably going to be Andrade’s toughest competition to date in AEW and the prospect of these two in the ring together was exciting. This could have been a show stealing bout on a card full of top notch matches. It’s also another unfortunate break for PAC who has had some travel issues in the past and with COVId restrictions constantly changing, this was something that shouldn’t come as too shocking a surprise.

Still, when AEW learned he wasn’t going to make the show, they immediately let the fans know.

Of course, some fans had fun at WWE’s expense with the way AEW was completely transparent about the change in plans. One Twitter user wrote, “THIS ISN’T HOW A COMPANY DOES BUSINESS!” They jokingly added that AEW should have kept advertising the match, run a video promo just before the match was to take place and then tell the fans that it wasn’t happening live during the event. This, of course, was a sarcastic reference to how WWE handled the Sasha Banks situation at SummerSlam.
