Vince McMahon Reportedly Furious With Shinsuke Nakamura For Dropping John Cena On His Head

Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard reports today that Vince McMahon was furious with Shinsuke Nakamura for dropping John Cena on his head and neck when he hit him with the Reverse Exploder near the end of their main event match on SmackDown LIVE last week.

Luckily for Cena, he did not suffer a serious injury. SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan announced on last night’s show that Cena will face Baron Corbin at SummerSlam on August 20.

According to Barrasso, McMahon’s anger was more in defense of Cena than an indictment of Nakamura since the WWE Chairman & CEO has not lost faith in him. However, if Nakamura makes another mistake like that again, McMahon will have an entirely different opinion of him.

McMahon might be the only one upset with Nakamura for the botched spot. Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported last week that people backstage saw the error as a fluke. Cena himself did not seem upset about it either. Nakamura immediately apologized to Cena after the match, to which Cena replied, “Don’t be sorry.”

Info On “The Price of Fame: The Story of Ted ‘Million Dollar Man’ DiBiase”

The following was issued:

The Price of ‘ame’ Explores Life of Professional Wrestling Legend ‘ed ‘Million Dollar Man’ DiBiase Outside the Ring, in U.S. Cinemas November 7 OnlyThe Inspirational Journey of the Iconic 1975-1994 WWF Villain Hits the Big Screen, Including a Panel Discussion and Q&A with DiBiase and Other Wrestling Greats

DENVER–Ted DiBiase is known by scores of fans as the “Million Dollar Man” – the larger-than-life character that helped launch pro-wrestling into the international spotlight and one of the greatest villains in pro-wrestling history. But the price of fame took DiBiase away from his family into an egocentric world of self-fulfillment and desire, where he spiraled out of control. In the documentary, “The Price of Fame: The Story of Ted ‘Million Dollar Man’ DiBiase,” audiences will witness DiBiase’s story and learn about his inspiring search for meaning, which changed him from a self-absorbed, jet-setting wrestler into a devoted Christian, family man and ordained minister.

Fathom Events and Engage Media Partners present “The Price of Fame” in U.S. cinemas for special one-night event on Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. local time.

Tickets for “The Price of Fame: The Story of Ted ‘Million Dollar Man’ DiBiase” can be purchased online by visiting http://www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in more than 600 select movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

“‘The Price of Fame’ shows that fame, money, power and prestige are not what’s really important in life. Devotion to family and friends, giving of yourself to others and building strong character and integrity – these are life’s priceless commodities, and are far more rewarding than anything money can buy,” said DiBiase. “Although I appreciate my time in wrestling, I don’t want to be remembered as a wrestling legend, but someone who, through much grace and mercy, overcame many mistakes. I want to be known as a husband, father, grandfather and friend who left a legacy of selfless love and devotion.”

Peter Ferriero’s directorial debut will undoubtedly stir nostalgia in wrestling fans everywhere, as “The Price of Fame” explores the life of DiBiase and his family, from his pro-wrestling father to his pro-wrestling son. They built a legacy in the ring, but their lasting impact will be felt for generations outside of that ring. Audiences will discover what the price of fame was for DiBiase, and the priceless faith he found that changed everything.

“There’s no doubt that professional wrestling has made an impact on the world, particularly during its huge rise in the ’80s,” Fathom Events VP of Programming Kymberli Frueh said. “DiBiase’s story encompasses fame, fortune, faith and family, and begs the question, ‘Is the price of fame worth it all?'”

“Engage Media Partners is excited to join forces with Peter Ferriero in his directorial debut to bring the story of Ted ‘Million Dollar Man’ DiBiase to life!” said Jason Ellerbrook of Engage Media Partners. “This historical account of the rise of professional wrestling through the eyes of the DiBiases provides a ‘behind the curtain’ look that pro-wrestling fans have been waiting for. It also delivers a transformational message of life, love and hope that will encourage all viewers to never give up!”

Recent NXT signee Kairi Sane has officially been cleared for in-ring action again.

WWE announced today that Sane will be wrestling in St. Petersburg, FL on Thursday, her first match since getting injured last month.

As we previously reported, Kairi sustained a concussion during the tapings for the Mae Young Classic, but it was expected that she would be cleared by early August.

That timeline appears to have been correct and it appears to be smooth sailing as Kairi helps hold down the home port this weekend while the rest of the crew is in California.

WWE And GFW Assigned Trademark Attorneys For Matt And Jeff Hardy

WWE’s applications for trademarks relating to Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy filed on June 19 were assigned to a trademark attorney on July 27, according to PWInsider. This means they’ll bypass the three-month wait period that applies to most applications.

Global Force Wrestling’s applications for trademarks relating to the Hardys were filed on April 28 and were also assigned to a trademark attorney on July 27.

WWE’s application for Matt Hardy received an initial refusal due to potential confusion with the “Broken Matt Hardy” application, which was filed first by Hardy himself. All other actions will be frozen until Matt’s application is finalized. A similar situation happened with GFW’s application.

Both of WWE’s applications also received an initial refusal due to WWE not providing consent from Matt and Jeff to trademark their respective names. They quickly responded with consent from both of them.

WWE’s application for a trademark on the Hardy Boyz name was filed in April and is set to be published for opposition to the public at the end of August.

WWE Bringing In UK Talent For Upcoming Shows, Update On Network Series

WWE is set to bring Tyler Bate, Trent Seven, Wolfgang, Pete Dunne and Mark Andrews to the United States in a few weeks, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The report indicates it’s not exactly known what role they will play but they could be appearing on NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III or at the NXT tapings right after SummerSlam weekend. Plans for the United Kingdom WWE Network show are on hold, which is obvious due to the fact the first taping was set for June and nothing has been announced.

WWE has increased their efforts in pushing international talents as they look to expand the WWE Network worldwide. Earlier this year, they held the first ever WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, where they crowned their first champion in Tyler Bate. Bate lost the title to Pete Dunne at NXT TakeOver: Chicago on May 20, 2017 in Rosemont, Illinois.

Backstage Note On Another WWE Superstar Shakeup

We noted before that there has been talk of doing another Superstar Shakeup after the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. PWInsider notes that the idea is to do two shakeups per year instead of just one major WWE Draft. WWE previously held a roster Shakeup in April after WrestleMania 33.
