AEW Changing Their COVID Testing Procedures, More Talents Tested Positive

AEW changed their COVID testing protocols at Wednesday’s tapings, according to report from Wrestling Inc.

Wrestling Inc. has learned that AEW had talents get tested from their home in addition to getting test on-site at Wednesday’s taping. Lance Archer apparently tested positive during that second round of testing. Also, the AEW medical staff consulted with the NFL COVID response team to come up with updates to their COVID testing process.

This apparently comes after several positive COVID-19 tests in the company. Jon Alba and Fightful.com reported that multiple AEW wrestlers who were at the September 9th tapings tested positive for COVID-19 in the two weeks since. The report noted that some of the talent that had tested positive had been brought in for the last set of AEW Dark tapings and are not under contract.

Archer announced that he had tested positive prior to Wednesday’s Dynamite, causing the scheduled six-man tag team main event to be changed. On the show, the announcers said that Archer was pulled from the match because he had come into contact with someone with COVID, but never stated that Archer tested positive himself.

Wrestling Inc. exclusively reported earlier this month about the COVID testing procedures implemented by WWE and AEW. AEW talent go to an off-site facility the morning of tapings to have a blood prick test taken. The test allows a talent to know within ten minutes whether they are positive or not. If the talent passes the test, they are given a wrist band and taken to Daily’s Place. Talent cannot enter Daily’s Place without the wrist band.

Miro Reveals He Is Not Restricted To AEW, Teases NJPW Debut

It seems like Miro could be following in AEW World Champion Jon Moxley’s footsteps and wrestling in Japan despite being under contract with AEW.

During his latest Twitch stream, Miro revealed that his AEW contract allows him to wrestle in different countries, especially “where the sun rises,” hinting at a possible appearance in NJPW at some point down the road.

“Despite signing a contract, I am not restricted to AEW alone. While I am not going to name any promotions, I’ll just say I’m allowed to work in different countries. Maybe a country where the sun rises? You’ll just have to wait and see,” said Miro.

Miro hinted that wrestling in Japan is one of his lifelong dreams and something that he plans to fulfill in the near future.

“Sometimes when God says, Miro you’re going to live all your dreams, you just got to keep the faith. That’s why when I got released [from WWE], I had zero doubt that I would be able to go to AEW and work in different places. And that is how things are unfolding now,” he added.

Miro, who appeared on AEW Dynamite a few weeks ago, went onto say that his patience is beginning to pay off, especially after a lengthy hiatus from the ring following his WWE release in April.

“Things happen for a reason, and the more you let go off the BS, the more service you’re doing to yourself. If you’re good, and trust and believe, things will align themselves. You just have to be patient, and that’s what I did. I bided my time and here I am now.”

AEW To Air Two Dynamite Episodes Next Week?, Update On Possible Schedule Changes For Next Week

There are a few possibilities for next week’s AEW Dynamite episodes on TNT.

If the NBA Playoffs series between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets ends in 6 games, then Dynamite will air on Wednesday at 8pm ET, its usual timeslot. If the series goes to 7 games, then the regular weekly Dynamite episode will air at 8pm ET on Thursday night. We will know the status of Dynamite after Monday night when the two teams play Game Six.

AEW has had plans to air a one-hour edition of Dynamite, which would air following the Wednesday NBA game at around midnight, and that episode is being taped today, according to Wrestling Observer Radio. If Dynamite ends up airing in its normal timeslot next Wednesday, then the one-hour Dynamite show will be moved to Tuesday, September 22 instead.

It was noted that none of the announced matches will air on the one-hour Dynamite show, which is also being taped today. The following matches and segments have been announced for next week. It was noted that the segment with Archer and Moxley will air on the two-hour show.

* AEW World Champion Jon Moxley and #1 contender Lance Archer will talk

* NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa will defend against Ivelisse

* Best Friends vs. Santana and Ortiz in a Parking Lot Brawl

Miro (Rusev) Debuts On AEW Dynamite

Rusev aka Miro was revealed as Kip Sabian’s best man last night on AEW Dynamite.

It all went down during a segment which began with Kip and Penelope Ford coming to the ring to make the announcement. Sabian then introduced his best man, but someone else came out. Kip informed them they weren’t the best man, then tried to make the reveal happen again. This time Brian Pillman Jr came out thinking he was the one who got the ask. Kip let him know he misread the text though and told him to leave.

Sabian then once again introduced his best man and former WWE star Rusev aka Miro walked out.

Miro talked about being under a glass ceiling for the past ten years with an imaginary brass ring at the top, then said you can shove that brass ring up your ass. “Elite recognizes Elite,” he added. “My name is Miro … and I’m All Elite.”

According to sources, Miro has indeed signed with AEW. We’re told his deal lasts for over a year. AEW confirmed this after he made his debut by announcing Miro is “All Elite” on Twitter.

As you’ll recall, Rusev was released from WWE in April alongside many other wrestlers. This was said to have been done in an effort to cut costs in the wake of the pandemic.
