Saraya Pushes For AEW Women’s Trios Or Tag Team Titles

Saraya captured the AEW Women’s Championship at AEW All In during a fatal 4-way match in front of her family.

Saraya spoke with Women’s Wrestling Talk for a new interview, where she discussed AEW possibly adding new titles to the women’s division.

“I would love for there to be a female trios championship or a regular tag team championship for women because we do have two (women’s titles), and that’s awesome, but there are so many women on our roster, and so many women that are in tag teams. Why don’t we make a tag team championship? Who knows. Tony always has great ideas up his sleeve,” she said.

Reported Reactions, Interest From WWE & Other Promotions With CM Punk On Open Market

With CM Punk’s time in AEW having reached an acrimonious end, many are wondering what is next for the two-time AEW World Champion, with some wondering if he could wind up back at WWE, another promotion, or if he would once again disappear as he did following his WWE departure in 2014. At least a few days removed from his AEW exit, it appears there is some interest in Punk popping up elsewhere.

PWInsider Elite reports that Punk became a topic of discussion within WWE as soon as he was fired, and the response has been pretty divided. While some in WWE look at it as a chance for the promotion to make a lot of money, with one top talent even going as far to endorse the idea, many more were said to be against it and didn’t believe it would happen. However it turns out, Punk joining WWE would be a discussion saved for later, as the promotion is currently focused on finalizing its merger with Endeavor, set to be completed this month. It is also believed that Endeavor themselves would make the call to sign him. Punk had previously worked for Endeavor when he competed in UFC, and is said to have had a good relationship with top Endeavor brass.

As for other promotions, Impact Wrestling was also said to be interested in Punk, though it’s unclear if they would be able to afford him, something considered a potential issue for other promotions that may have interest. As for NJPW, it is believed the promotion wouldn’t pursue Punk, due to their relationship with AEW. It is further believed that Punk was released without a noncompete clause, which would allow him to sign anywhere at any time.

CJ Perry Not Under Long-Term AEW Deal Despite All Out Appearance

CJ Perry made a surprise appearance at All Out this weekend, turning up after Miro’s match against Powerhouse Hobbs to help her husband during a post-match attack. She gained a huge ovation from the Chicago crowd which led to question marks about her future with the company, which Tony Khan addressed during the post-show media scrum.

“I think it’s great to have CJ here,” Khan said. “It’s not a long-term guaranteed thing or anything, but at least for tonight it was nice to have her appearing with us and I thought it was a great surprise. It was a great show. Miro and Hobbs was a match that I really believed would be great for All Out.”

Perry hasn’t been seen in a wrestling ring since her time with WWE came to an end back in 2021, but despite the success of her CJPerry.com website, Perry has always made it clear that she was open to a return to wrestling. While Perry’s appearance proved to be beneficial for Miro as she distracted Hobbs long enough for “The Redeemer” to nail his rival with a chair, that doesn’t mean he was happy to see her. Miro walked away from Perry, leaving her inside the ring as he could be heard screaming, “You’re not real.” Perry then reacted to the situation on social media, claiming she’s not the type of woman you renounce.

Even though Perry is currently not on a long-term contract, that doesn’t mean that things can’t change. It now remains to be seen whether or not Perry will appear again on AEW television to continue the storyline.

CM Punk Fired From AEW

All Elite Wrestling on Saturday announced that it has fired top star CM Punk with cause after AEW investigated an incident that occurred during its “All In” pay-per-view show last Sunday at Wembley Stadium in London.

Punk and fellow AEW wrestler Jack Perry, the son of late actor Luke Perry, reportedly got into a physical altercation backstage during the pay-per-view event.

AEW’s statement, which was issued on X (formerly Twitter) said Punk’s wrestling and employment contracts have both been terminated.

“Following the investigation, the AEW Discipline Committee met and later convened with outside legal counsel before making a unanimous recommendation to [AEW owner Tony] Khan that CM Punk be terminated with cause,” AEW’s statement read.

Khan, AEW’s CEO, general manager and head of creative, said in an accompanying statement that he wishes he “didn’t have to share this news” but made the decision “in the best interests of the many amazing people who make AEW possible every week.”

AEW is scheduled to have a pay-per-view, “All Out,” on Sunday at United Center in Chicago, the day after its weekly Saturday “Collision” television show in the same building.

Punk, whose real name is Phil Brooks, is a Chicago native and a major star in the city.

“Phil played an important role in AEW and I thank him for his contributions,” Khan said in his statement. “The termination of his AEW contracts with cause is ultimately my decision, and mine alone.”

To open AEW’s “Collision” show Saturday night, Khan appeared in a pretaped interview and said the incident last weekend was “regrettable” and “endangered people backstage.”

“I’ve been going to wrestling shows for over 30 years,” Khan said on the show. “I’ve been producing them on this network for nearly four years. Never, in all that time, have I ever felt until last Sunday that my security, my safety, my life was in danger at a wrestling show. I don’t think anybody should feel that way at work.”

Punk, 44, returned to AEW in June after suffering a torn biceps in a match last September. After the match last year, Punk engaged in a controversial news conference and then reportedly got into a physical altercation with AEW wrestlers Matt Jackson, Nick Jackson and Kenny Omega, who are also company executive vice presidents.

Punk said in June that he apologized to Khan about what he said in the news conference.

The incident in September 2022 came after AEW wrestler Adam “Hangman” Page went off script in a televised interview segment with Punk, bringing up things the two did not agree would be talked about — and things Punk said were not true.

Punk said nothing was done to Page for the indiscretion.

“It poisoned everything for me, and it made it all really, really ugly, and that was what set all of this off, and here we are over a year later and ain’t s— been done about it,” Punk told ESPN in June.

The belief among people in the locker room was that Punk had gotten another wrestler, Colt Cabana, fired from AEW, or at least tried to do so. Punk and Cabana used to be close friends but had an ugly falling-out that included lawsuits. Punk has denied trying to get Cabana fired. Cabana is still employed by AEW.

Punk has been one of the most popular stars in the pro wrestling business over the past two decades. He is a former two-time WWE champion and three-time world heavyweight champion. Punk is also a former two-time AEW champion. He fought twice in the UFC after leaving WWE in 2014.
