Raw Recap: January 7 2013 – Finally The Rock…..

John Cena came to the ring. Cena talked about the start of the new year, The CM Punk vs Ryback TLC match for the WWE Championship & the return of The Rock on tonight’s Raw. Cena said he was entered into the Royal Rumble match & he is going to win. Dolph Ziggler & AJ with Big E. Langston interrupted. AJ said she can’t believe that she use to have feelings for Cena & called him a very small man. Cena made fun of her for making a wiener joke. Ziggler told Cena to cut the crap. Cena mentioned what he did last week when he dumped crap on them from the ceiling in the middle of the ring. Ziggler said that he is entering the Royal Rumble. Cena challenged Ziggler to a match right now. Langston said it is on. Ziggler didn’t seem to like it that Langston accepted the match for him.

John Cena vs Dolph Ziggler: The referee ejected AJ & Big E. Langston from ringside because of their interference in the match. Later the referee got knocked out & Langston came back to the ring & attacked Cena & pulled Ziggler onto Cena. A new referee ran to the ring & made the pin count but Cena kicked out. Cena hit the AA on Ziggler & got the win.

Diva Championship Match: Diva Champ Eve vs Kaitlyn: late in the match Eve took her title belt took off through the crowd & was counted out. Kaitlyn won by count-out & Eve retained her championship because the title doesn’t change hands on a count-out.

Santino Marella backstage talking to Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. Wade Barrett interrupted & talked about how great of a Intercontinental Champion he is & insulted Steamboat. Steamboat told Santino that he will be in his corner tonight for Santino’s match with Barrett.

Matt Striker interviewed Randy Orton. Orton talked about entering the Royal Rumble. 3MB interrupted & Orton challenged one of them to a match. Heath Slater is going to face Orton.

Team Hell No vs Rhodes Scholars: Rhodes Scholars got the win.

Randy Orton vs Heath Slater of 3MB: Orton got the win after hitting Slater with a RKO. After the match the other 2 members of 3MB attacked Orton & Orton hit both of them with a RKO.

Santino Marella vs Wade Barrett: Ricky Steamboat was in Santino’s corner. Barrett got the win. After the match Barrett went to attack Steamboat from behind but Steamboat was ready for him & Barrett left the ring.

Matt Striker interviewed Sheamus. 3MB came in & Sheamus made fun of them for losing to Orton. Slater said Orton got lucky. Sheamus invited them to the ring for a match & said whoever is left standing after a Brogue Kick get’s to sing Danny Boy with him.

Antonio Cesaro vs The Great Khali: Natalya & Hornswoggle was in Khali’s corner: The Miz did commentary during the match. Cesaro got the win.

Paul Heyman backstage was talking on the phone & was interrupted by Brad Maddox. Maddox said he could be a service to CM Punk tonight. Maddox suggested he could be the referee for Punk’s match. Heyman said he wasn’t interested.

Sheamus vs Jinder Mahal of 3MB: 3MB interfered in the match & Sheamus hit all of them with a Brogue Kick & Sheamus got the win.

TLC Match for the WWE Championship: WWE Champ CM Punk with Paul Heyman vs Ryback: Ryback climbed the ladder & was about to grab the belt when the lights went off. The light came back on & The Shield was on the ladder & prevented Ryback from grabbing the belt. The shield triple powerbombed Ryback through a table. CM Punk climbed the ladder & retrieved the belt to retain the WWE Championship.

Matt Striker interviewed CM Punk in the locker room. Punk said that he has nothing to do with Brad Maddox & he doesn’t even no The Shield. Punk said that he is going to the ring before The Rock & is going to drop a pipe bomb.

Team Hell No in the locker room was arguing who’s fault it was for their loss. Vickie Guerrero interrupted & told them that next week they have to meet with Dr. Shelby for their 4 month follow up evaluations. Kane & Bryan then argued if Dr. Shelby is a monster or a nerd.

Kofi Kingston vs Big Show: Big Show got the win.

CN Punk & Paul Heyman came to the ring. Punk said nobody understand what a pipe bomb is. Punk said a pipe bomb is the truth. Punk said that he made a conscience decision & sold out to the fans. He said their is a glass ceiling in the WWE & nobody is allowed to break it. Punk said the superstars are in here in this circus to entertain the fans & don’t get noticed until they are able to move some t-shirts. Punk said he is successful not because of the fans but in-spite of the fans. Punk said he is the most honest superstar. Punk said there is bad guys & good guys & he is a very bad man & he is the best in the world. A crew member gets on the ring apron to tell Punk they are going to a commercial. Punk said that we go to a commercial when the champ says we go to a commercial. Punk said that the fans do not matter. The show went to a commercial.

Back from commercial Punk still in the ring talking. Punk said in one year he is still going to be champion & he doesn’t care that The Rock is back. Punk called the fans losers. The Rock’s music hits & The Rock made his way to the ring. The Rock said Punk is delusional. Rock said the real number is not 414 days that Punk is champion the real number that haunts Punks dreams is 20. Rock said in 20 days time is up. Rock said that the fans rejected Punk. Rock said that Punk claimed to be the voice of the voiceless & that is garbage because the fans do have a voice. Punk said that the fans don’t get to win. & Rock said they have already won. Rock said ” finally The Rock has come back to Tampa”. Rock said that there are 3 reasons he is back. He is back to entertain the fans, to stop CM Punk & to win the WWE Championship. Rock said that Punk is running around like Popeye on crack & called Punk Popeye the Crackhead. Rock said that Punk became champion & became the biggest jerk the world has ever seen. Rock said that there is no way that Punk can stop him from becoming WWE Champion. Punk said that he is the best in the world & he is going to kick The Rock’s butt. Punk said that Rock’s arms are to short to box with God. Rock said that Punk is going to go one on one with the great one & in 20 days his time is up. Rock said that he is going to kick Punk’s candy *ss At the Royal Rumble & Rock delivered a Rock Bottom on Punk.

After the show they ran a promo for The Rock appearing on Smackdown this Friday.

Jon Gruden skips NCAA title game to attend ‘WWE Raw’

Jon Gruden could smell what The Rock was cooking.

Rather than stay at home watching a handful of future NFL prospects play in the BCS National Championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame, the “Monday Night Football” analyst and NFL head coaching candidate headed down to the Tampa Bay Times Forum to check out The Rock, John Cena and a bunch of other pro wrestlers at “WWE Raw” Monday night.

Given the lopsided result of the title game, there was more compelling drama ringside anyway.

Normally we’d question why someone who could potentially end up coaching players in this game would skip it in lieu of watching C.M. Punk hit Ryback with a table, but Gruden seemed to be having a blast spending some quality time with his kids. Given Gruden’s penchant for early-morning tape watching, he was likely up at 3 a.m. watching game footage and generating a whole list of superlatives for Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron.

Announcer Jerry Lawler announced Gruden’s presence to the crowd, along with a suggestion that he become the “next coach of the Cleveland Browns.” It does seem like Vince McMahon missed an opportunity to pull Gruden out of the crowd and utilize his enthusiastic announcing skills for a match or two.

“THIS GUY knows how to deploy a ladder across a guy’s back. I mean, watch THIS GUY climb up on the steel steps and knock his opponent woozy before putting him in a sleeper hold! THIS GUY is a World Wrestling Entertainment athlete!”

One year Later: Punk Shakes Wrestling Industry AGAIN With New Kayfabe Pipebomb

Talk about starting 2013 off with a bang! The talk on Monday might have been all about THE ROCK’s return however the most memorable moment was in fact CM PUNK’S latest pipebomb rant which attacked everything from the creative direction of the WWE to superstars not being pushed and cooperate greed and last but not least the WWE’s constant need to cut to commercial.

Dwayne Johnson Confirms Long-Term Storyline To Headline WrestleMania

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson says his angle for WrestleMania would start this Monday with his return, which he said would be “big.” “That will lead to, hopefully, what will be the biggest WrestleMania of all time at Giants Stadium,” Rock said. “I will headline that show, with someone who I can’t say right now. We’ve got an amazing four months lined up and planned out that will culminate in the biggest WrestleMania of all time. It’s going to be a hell of a thing”

The comments were made during an interview for his new TNT television series “The Hero”

TNA Recap: January 3 2013

TNA Wrestler of the Year presented by Jeremy Borash. He introduced to the stage the 5 nominees, Bully Ray, James Storm, Austin Aries, Bobby Roode & Jeff Hardy. As Borash was about to announce the winner both Roode & Aries thinking he has won headed toward the ring arguing which one has won. Borash announced the winner of TNA Wrestler of the Year to be Jeff Hardy. Hardy came to the ring to accept. Both Roode & Aries was upset that they didn’t win. Hardy challenged them to a triple threat match at Genesis for his TNA World Title. Roode & Aries attacked Hardy. Aries tried to hit Hardy with the trophy but Hardy ducked & Aries hit Roode. Hardy then hit the Twist of Fate on Aries & left the ring with his trophy that was bent.

Backstage James Storm was asked about not winning Wrestler of the Year. Daniels & Kazarian interrupted & made fun of Storm. Storm challenged one of them to a fight.

James Storm vs Kazarian: Storm got the win.

Aces & Eights in their clubhouse trying to recruit Mr. Anderson. Anderson was sitting on a couch with 2 girls. Devon told Anderson that they need an answer. Anderson said to chill & lets think about it awhile longer because the recruiting progress has been fun. D.O.C. said to Anderson what is it going to be. Sting is coming back tonight so are you in or are you out. It appeared that Anderson had agreed to join them. Devon said that this was great news & said lets go see what Sting has to offer. Devon asked if anyone has seen his bat.

Backstage Kenny King talked to Kid Kash about the X-Division Tournament. He mention that he would face Kash after they both win their first match in the tournament.

D.O.C. of Aces & Eights came to the ring. He called for Sting to come out & face him. While D.O.C. waited A black baseball bat dropped into the ring. D.O.C. started looking around for Sting.

Backstage Brooke Hogan was asked if she has talked to her dad about her & Bully Ray. She said she hasn’t talked to him yet. She was asked when she is going to talk to him. She said she is going to find out now & will probably find out on live TV like always.

X-Division Tournament Match: Kid Kash vs Christian York: York got the win.

Backstage Chavo with Hernandez talked about Joey Ryan & Matt Morgan. Chavo said him & Hernandez ain’t afraid of nobody.

Hernandez vs Matt Morgan: Morgan came to the ring with his arm in a sling claiming to be injured. He said Joey Ryan will face Hernandez in his place. Hernandez vs Joey Ryan: Morgan interfered in the match by hitting Hernandez with a clothesline with the arm that was in the sling. Morgan then hit Chavo with his Carbon Foot Print boot to the head.

Backstage Kurt Angle with Samoa Joe told Garett Bischoff & Wes Briscoe to stay backstage during his Joe’s tag match with Aces & Eights because it is in a steel cage & they wont need them. Angle told Joe that he wants to unmask all of Aces & Eights.

Hulk Hogan came to the ring. Hogan apologized for not being here last week. Hogan asked for both Bully Ray & Brooke to come to the ring. Hogan said that Bully should have told him what was going on with him & Brooke. Hogan said that he had one question. Hogan asked them why. Bully said Hogan was right he should have told him about Brooke & him. Hogan said that Bully doesn’t belong in the business. Hogan suspended Bully without pay & told him to get out of his ring. Hogan told Brooke to also get out of his ring.

Video was showed of Joseph Park’s progress at OVW. Trainer Danny Davis said that he has been impressed by Park’s dedication & work ethic & said Park has heart & has the it factor & is ready for a match.

Gail Kim & Tara vs Mickie James & Miss Tessmacher: Mickie James & Miss Tessmacher got the win.

Aces & Eights in the clubhouse. D.O.C. talked about Angle threatening to remove Aces & Eights members mask. VP said those who still has their mask need to protect them with their lives & that nobody takes them off.

ODB backstage talked about Aces & Eight & that Sting was going to take care of them. ODB said the he hubby Eric Young was out of the hospital & is at home recovering. ODB said her hubby will come back & she will be right by his side.

In Hogan’s office Roode & Aries was complaining about the triple threat match against Hardy. Hogan said that is official the triple threat match for the TNA World Championship will be a elimination triple threat. Hogan said that next week Roode & Aries will team up against Hardy & whoever Hardy wants.

Steel Cage Match: Aces & Eights(Devon & a masked member) vs Kurt Angle & Samoa Joe: D.O.C. attacked Angle before he could get in the cage & locked the door with Joe in the cage alone with Aces & Eights. Angle tried to climb the cage to get in but was attacked again but D.O.C. Angle was finally able to get the key from D.O.C. & unlocked the door & entered the cage. Angle & Joe got the win. After the match D.O.C. & other Aces & Eights members entered the cage & attacked Angle & Joe. Mr. Anderson stayed outside of the cage. Sting entered the cage & started hitting Aces & Eights with his bat. Aces & Eight retreated but Sting, Angle & Joe had trapped one masked member in the cage. Angle removed his mask & it was Mike Knox.

Right after Christmas, each member of the DTRT Wrestling News Staff was asked to make their picks for the following:

DTRT Wrestling News Co-Founder Trevor’s Choices with comments:

 

  1. Match of the Year – Undertaker VS Triple H WrestleMania 28: Without a doubt this earns the title of match of the year. The buildup to the match was intense. You had two icons of the “attitude era” battling it out against the undertakers undefeated streak.
  2. Superstar of the Year – CM Punk he has been able to successfully hold fans attention with one of the longest title raigns while also having a successful heel turn.
  3. Best Storyline of the Year – CM Punk respect, again this angle has performed well this year.
  4. Worst Storyline of the Year – AJ crazy chick, I am proud of the popularity AJ achieved after WrestleMania 28. Until then she was known simply as “Daniel Bryans girlfriend”. However after the kiss of death that cost Bryan his match at mania and to lose his championship and a very good public breakup WWE creative didn’t know when enough was enough. AJ became known as “the crazy chick” kissing all the top male superstars and didn’t see any in-ring action for months.
  5. Shocker of the Year – Rybacks sudden rise in popularity: Going from squash matches to a fan favorite in just a couple of months has to be a record. It felt like he only had 2 or 3 matches and the crowd was already breaking into chants of “Feed me more”. This was one of the best comebacks and all props to Ryan Reeves who up until an injury was going by the name Skip Shepfield and do a horrible gimmick which he himself admitted he hated. Ryback was the original gimmick he had perfected during his developmental period at FCW / now NXT and it should have stayed that way in the first place.
  6. Breakout Star of the Year – Say what you like about how WWE creative has done with her character of AJ Lee, there is no doubt in my mind that if you are going to count for the entire year it has to be April Mendez. Not since Trish or Lita have we seen a diva be so popular with the audience and ultimately carry the ratings for Raw for several weeks during the summer. It is proof to me that Diva’s should be considered superstars and billed as such in matches. April Mendez has the talent and in-ring ability if she should ever be allowed to properly use it? Hopefully against her friend and another talented diva Kaitlyn.

  3. Best Storyline of the Year: Team Hell No – This gets an *** with it though as the best story (not storyline) of the Year was Jerry “The King” Lawler recovering from the near fatal heart attack he had live on RAW.
  4. Worst Storyline of the Year: The Kissing Bandit – AJ Lee
  5. Shocker of the Year: How WWE Creative took the wildly popular Crazy Chick persona of AJ Lee and screwed it up with GM AJ Lee, with her getting practically no air time after the intial success of the GM storyline. The original Crazy Chick was fun and unpredictable and that morphed into Crazy Chick meaning insanely crazy.  Add in that she is one of the most talented in ring Diva performers and we saw hardly any matches with her and I’m totally shocked at how she was used.
  6. Breakout Star of the Year: Ryback

TNA Recap: December 27 2012

It was Open Fight Night this week on Impact Wrestling.

Bully Ray came to the ring. Bully said that he has no doubt him & Hogan can’t get along. He said that he has a lot of respect for Hogan. Bully called out Hogan to talk not to fight. Hogan’s music played but Hogan didn’t come out. Brooke Hogan came out instead. Bully asked where her dad was. She said her dad wasn’t here & that he knows about her & Bully. Brooke told Bully that they have to go see him & that she wants to show her dad the man she knows that Bully is. Bully said there is nothing to know.

Austin Aries came out to the ring. Aries talked about what happened last week & said that everybody knows that he should be TNA World Champion but Bobby Roode screwed him. Aries said that he can’t be mad at Roode because he screwed him also. He said they’re even now. Aries called out Roode for a match in the main event.

Samoa Joe came to the ring & said he came to pick a fight. He said that Aces & Eights got to hit people people with a hammer & he wants to show them how hard he can hit. Samoa Joe called out a masked member of Aces & Eights. He said that he will choke him out & take off his mask. A big masked member came to the ring.

Samoa Joe vs Masked member of Aces & Eights: Samoa Joe got the win by submission with a rear naked choke. Joe was going to unmask him but Aces & Eights member came to the ring & Joe left the ring.

Robbie E. & Robbie T. was backstage talking & Jesse walked up. Robbie E. & Jesse called each other stupid. Robbie E. said he was going to challenge Jesse to a bro off.

Kenny King was backstage talking to Christian York. King said RVD will call him out & told York to watch their match & take notes.

Robbie E. came to the ring with Robbie T. & called Jesse a wanna be Robbie E. & a fake Robbie E. Robbie E. called out Jesse for a bro off. Jesse came to the ring with Tara.
Robbie E. vs Jesse in a Bro Off: Robbie E. danced & said to Jesse “top that bro”. Jesse did some body builder poses & pressed Tara over his head & said to Robbie E. “that’s how you bro off dude. Robbie E. said that he won because Jesse was automatically disqualified because he ended by saying dude instead of bro. Robbie T. said one more bro to go & he did some poses, danced, did some one arm push ups & pressed Robbie E. over his head & then said ‘bro” & walked off. It appeared that Robbie T. won the bro off.

RVD came to the ring & called out Christian York. Kenny King seamed surprised.

RVD vs Christian York: RVD got the win.

Aces & Eights in their clubhouse. Devon said that the guy he reached out to for help is difficult to deal with & a little arrogant but if they make him part of the club he thinks that they got him. Devon said that all they got to do is make him feel like he is part of them & that’s what they’re looking for anyway. Devon called for D.O.C. & he came into the room with 2 girls on his arm. Devon asked if this is going to work. D.O.C. said it is going to work just fine.

Video was showed of Joseph Park talking about his training at OVW. Park talked about how well he is doing. Trainer Danny Davis said Park can be good if he applies himself & thinks nothing but wrestling 24 hours a day. Davis said that Park hasn’t yet showed him that he can.

Bobby Roode was backstage talking about Aries calling him out.

A video of Sting’s 1-3-13 promo was showed.

Daniels came to the ring. He said that he has the rear that makes girls cheer. Daniels said that he feels responsible for AJ Styles not being around for awhile. Daniels called out AJ. Kazarian came to the ring pretending to be AJ. The fans chanted “we want AJ.” Chavo & Hernandez came out & challenged Daniels & Kazarian.

Chavo & Hernandez vs Daniels & Kazarian: Chavo & Hernandez got the win.

Jeff Hardy backstage talked about Roode & Aries. Hardy said revenge is on it’s way.

Aces & Eights in their clubhouse was talking to Mr. Anderson. Anderson had the 2 girls on his arms. Anderson asked for some time to think about it.

Gail Kim came to the ring & called out Miss Tessmacher.

Gail Kim vs Miss  Tessmacher: Gail got the win.

Bobby Roode vs Austin Aries: Roode & Aries both got caught trying to use a chair & cheat trying to get a pin fall. The referee got feed up with them & Roode & Aries both hit the referee. Roode & Aries fought over a chair. Jeff Hardy’s music played & Roode & Aries turned their attention toward the ramp & Hardy attacked them from behind. Hardy knocked Aries over the rope & out of the ring with a clothesline. Hardy laid out Roode with a Twist of Fate.
