The Young Bucks have been one of the defining tag teams of modern professional wrestling, but their in-ring careers may be entering the final chapter.
According to Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, there is internal belief that Matt and Nick Jackson’s current AEW contracts could be their last before retirement.
Retirement Has Been Discussed
The Young Bucks have wrestled for more than two decades and have previously spoken about eventually stepping away from the ring.
While discussing the future of the AEW Executive Vice Presidents, Meltzer noted that retirement has been a legitimate topic of conversation.
“I can see Matt and Nick. I’ve heard it discussed that this might be their last contract. You know people always say that and then there’s just like so much money thrown at you afterwards to stay, so you always do. We’ll see what happens when the deal’s up.”
Despite those discussions, Meltzer acknowledged that retirement plans in wrestling can change quickly, especially when new contract offers are involved.
AEW Contracts Run Through At Least 2027
The Young Bucks, along with fellow Elite members Kenny Omega and Hangman Page, signed new multi-year agreements with AEW in 2023.
Those deals are believed to run through at least 2027, although injury-related extensions could potentially alter expiration dates for some talent. Omega, for example, missed all of 2024 while recovering from diverticulitis.
As things stand, there is no confirmation that the Jackson brothers plan to retire when their current contracts expire.
Matt Jackson Previously Considered Stepping Away
Meltzer also revealed that Matt Jackson seriously contemplated retirement before agreeing to his most recent AEW deal.
“Matt considered stopping. Matt’s in his 40s and they’re set.”
According to Meltzer, the financial success achieved by The Young Bucks and their fellow Elite members means they are not dependent on continuing their wrestling careers.
“All of them, they’re all set for life. They’ve made a lot of money.”
Future Of The Elite
While discussing the future of AEW’s founding stars, Meltzer suggested that each member of The Elite could have a different timeline for retirement.
He believes Kenny Omega will likely continue wrestling for as long as his body allows, while Hangman Page, being significantly younger than the others, could remain active for many years to come.
The Young Bucks, meanwhile, remain one of AEW’s most decorated teams, having helped launch the promotion in 2019 while capturing multiple tag team championships and serving as key figures behind the scenes.
For now, the Jackson brothers remain under contract and active members of the AEW roster. However, if Meltzer’s report proves accurate, their current deal could ultimately mark the final contract of two wrestlers who helped reshape the modern wrestling landscape.
