Impact Wrestling Features Released WWE Superstars In Slammiversary PPV Promo Video

Impact Wrestling released a new Slammiversary PPV video Tuesday night which starts out with someone in a hood pouring a drink into a glass and watching a “You’re Fired breaking news report” about over 20 plus superstars released from contracts amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The video shows brief clips of Eric Young, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Rockstar Spud (Drake Maverick), Curt Hawkins, Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis and EC3. There was also an apparent reference to Rusev as the Bulgarian flag was shown.

These wrestlers’ that appeared in the video are all under a 90-day non-compete clause with WWE so none of them can legally negotiate with another promotion until early July.

It should be noted, however, that each wrestlers’ non-compete clauses expire just a few days before the Slammiversary pay-per-view.

This year’s IMPACT Slammiversary takes place, live Sunday, July 18.  A location for the event has yet to be announced.

UPDATE:

Drake Maverick has re-signed with WWE.

Impact Wrestling Press Conference Notes: Slammiversary Main Event, Titles Merged, NJPW Star Returning

Slammiversary

Impact Press Conference Notes from their Slammiversary Press Conference that took place on Monday in Toronto.

* Impact Champion Austin Aries vs. MOOSE for the IMPACT Championship was announced as the main event for the Slammiversary PPV on July 22 in Toronto.

* It was announced that the Impact Championship and the Impact Grand Championship, both currently held by Austin Aries, will be merged into one undisputed Impact Championship. This ends the lineage of the Impact Grand Championship that was created in 2016 and was initially part of a 3-round, judging system for all title matches under the short-lived Billy Corgan regime.

* Former Impact X-Division Champion and current NJPW star “Bone Soldier” Taiji Ishimori will be returning to Impact at Slammiversary.

Interesting to note that Ishimori’s recent time in New Japan as part of the Best of the Super Juniors tournament, where Ishimori lost in the Finals on Monday to Hiromu Takahashi, was referenced by Impact, along with his new “Bone Soldier” moniker that Ishimori has taken since joining Bullet Club upon his New Japan return in May.

This looks to be another move by Impact in an attempt to reforge a working relationship with New Japan, as Impact executive Don Callis also does English color commentary for major New Japan events.

The full press conference aired live on Facebook and can be viewed by clicking here.

Paige Appears To Have Sat Ringside At Slammiversary For Alberto El Patron’s Match … Wearing A Lucha Mask

lucha mask paige slammiversary ringside

WWE superstar Paige appears to have been in attendance to support her fiancé Alberto El Patron at Slammiversary XV… even if she had to wear a lucha mask to do it.

Paige was spotted in the front row during the  Slammiversary main event last night sporting the mask of lucha libre star Dos Caras — El Patron’s dad — to avoid being seen on camera.

El Patron went on to win the unified Impact and GFW Heavyweight Championship, then reportedly cut a promo against his former employer, aka Paige’s current employer, for the live audience.

For those who aren’t convinced that’s her, another Twitter pic (which has now been deleted) showed a visitor badge appearing to say Saraya Bevis … her real name. While Paige’s contract might stop her from being seen at competing wrestling events, it looks like she may have found a loophole.

Or she just doesn’t care about the consequences.
