WWE Releases The Revival, AEW News

WWE announced that they have released Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder of The Revival. They noted that the release was “immediate”, indicating that they do not have a 90-day non-compete clause.

It had been widely expected that the tag team would be leaving the company once their contracts expired. Both of their contracts were originally set to expire this month. While Dawson’s deal is up, Wilder’s contract was extended until mid-June to make up for time he missed due to injuries.

Wilder recently filed to trademark the name “Cash Wheeler” last month. He also owns the following trademarks related to the team: No Flips, Just Fists; Say Yeah; Top Guys, Shatter Machine; #FTRKO; #FTR.

Dawson also filed several trademarks recently and owns the following: No Flips, Just Fists; Say Yeah; Top Guys; Shatter Machine; #FTRKO.

Following their filings, WWE filed to trademark “No Flips Just Fists” and “The Mechanics”, which is the name that the team originally used in NXT.

It had widely been expected that Dawson and Wilder would be signing with AEW once they were free. AEW currently has no tapings scheduled after filming television last week that will last the company through mid-May. The status of the AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view scheduled for Saturday, May 23rd in Las Vegas remains uncertain.

WWE issued the following statement regarding their release:

WWE Reportedly Offers Big Money To The Revival

The Revival’s Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder were reportedly offered top guy money to stay with WWE.

Dawson and Wilder were reportedly offered new contracts that would run for 5 years, worth $500,000 per year, according to Fightful. The report was confirmed by Dave Meltzer of F4Wonline.com. The deals were not accepted, at least as of this week. Meltzer added that tonight’s RAW “may give you WWE’s reaction to that.”

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, who now works with AEW, recently mentioned in an interview that WWE had re-signed an undercard performer, who’s not currently on TV, to a $500,000 deal to keep them from going elsewhere.

There’s no word yet on if The Revival will be sticking around with WWE, but it’s been reported that they requested their releases back in January after being unhappy with how they were used. They ended up winning the titles and getting a WrestleMania 35 appearance after that. They then dropped the RAW Tag Team Titles to Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins. Dawson and Wilder look to be feuding with The Usos next on the red brand.

It was noted that as of this afternoon, it did not look like The Revival had plans to accept the deal. They were to meet with WWE officials this afternoon at RAW.

WWE RAW Stars Seemingly Vent Their Frustration Over How They’re Being Used

Tyler Breeze and Scott Dawson both seemed to vent their frustration with how they’ve been used on RAW lately. Breeze tweeted, “They say the cream rises to the top……. does anyone have some balloons or a life vest?” He also called a fan “dumb” for saying that comedy characters don’t reach main event status, as seen below:

Scott Dawson also took to Twitter, stating that he wants more of an opportunity so that they can prove what they can do. Breeze replied, “Get in line pal.”

Tyler Breeze and Fandango won their first match on RAW against Cesaro & Sheamus when they were drafted to the brand in early April. They have wrestled on RAW only three times since that match, having lost each one.

Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder had some success earlier this year, but have lost all of their matches on RAW since defeating Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows on the April 9th episode, before Anderson & Gallows left to SmackDown.

The injury occurred during a tag team match pitting Dawson and Dash Wilder against Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro and Sheamus.

“[Dawson’s] injury is consistent with a ruptured right distal biceps tendon,” WWE Senior Ringside Physician Dr. Chris Amann told WWE.com. “He will be seen for a surgical consult early this week with the treatment most likely requiring surgical repair.”

It is unknown at this time when Dawson will be able to return to the ring.
