Report – AEW May Extend Contract Of Star With WWE interest

Previous reports suggest The Lucha Brothers (Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix) are expected to leave AEW for WWE when their contracts expire.

Penta’s AEW contract expires between August and September, while Fenix’s contract expires later this year.

Fightful previously reported that the Lucha Brothers may be interested in joining WWE as a tag team despite being offered a new deal by AEW. The terms AEW offers are similar to what Penta has conveyed that WWE is willing to provide.

According to sources within AEW, there were concerns that the Lucha Brothers did not adhere to proper business practices, which resulted in their departure from the company. Penta’s rejection of the reports is believed to have been a strategic move to facilitate Fenix’s departure from AEW without contractual impediments.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter shared an update on the concern within AEW regarding their right to extend Fenix’s contract for an additional year due to his time off for injuries.

There was speculation about Penta heading to Orlando, FL, leading fans to speculate that he might be heading to the WWE Performance Center despite still being contracted to AEW.

Report: Lucha Brothers Expected To Leave AEW And Sign With WWE, All In Match Canceled

The luchador market could be about to welcome two new free agents, but they might not be free agents for long. According to a report from WrestlePurists, AEW’s Lucha Brothers are not expected to renew their contracts when they expire. As for Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo’s next destination, there is an overwhelming belief within AEW that the two luchadors are WWE-bound.

WrestlingPurists’ Ibou broke the news on their post-SummerSlam livestream and included details about the Lucha Brothers’ immediate plans, especially in regards to AEW’s upcoming All In pay-per-view. The Lucha Brothers were slated for a match alongside fellow Death Triangle member PAC against The Patriarchy for the World Trios Championship at Wembley Stadium. However, according to WrestlePurists, that plan has since been scrapped following news of the Lucha Brothers’ intentions to leave the company; the plan now is reportedly to run a triple threat trios title match involving The Patriarchy, the Bang Bang Gang, and House of Black. This match has yet to be announced in any official capacity, but the three teams have been feuding on AEW programming.

“When the [All In] match got canceled, I asked around internally … multiple sources within AEW told me, basically made it clear to me, that the Lucha Brothers are expected to depart AEW at the end of their contract,” Ibou said. “Some of them speculated that WWE was the destination, others outright said to me that it was a formality.”

Previous reports have indicated WWE has interest in Penta, whose contract is expected to expire within the next two months. While there have been no reports of WWE’s interest towards Fenix, it’s been speculated that Fenix’s injury caused his AEW contract to be extended, and that WWE would sign both Fenix and Penta as a unit.

Report – Rey Fenix Pulled From AEW All In 2023 Match

Rey Fenix will no longer be appearing in the Stadium Stampede match at Sunday’s All In 2023 pay-per-view event.

Fightful Select is reporting that Fenix, who was originally set to team with Eddie Kingston, Penta and Best Friends against the Blackpool Combat Club and several mystery partners, has been removed from the bout.

The reason for Fenix’s removal is related to either travel or visa issues. He is reportedly not injured. The company is planning to explain Fenix’s removal from the match on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

As of this writing, there is no word on who will be replacing Rey or whether the match will be adjusted with less competitors taking part in it.

On Tuesday’s media conference call to promote AEW All In 2023, AEW President Tony Khan stated that there would “probably be some other changes to the card necessitated by things happening in the real world. Stuff, in some cases, stuff that is nobody’s fault, but stuff that is not related to the world of professional wrestling.”

Rey Fenix Injured On AEW Dynamite

Rey Fenix was rushed to the hospital after suffering an injury during tonight’s AEW Dynamite, according to PWInsider.

The report noted that internal belief within AEW is that Fenix “likely dislocated his elbow.” It was further noted that a dislocated elbow “would be a blessing” given how bad Fenix’s injury looked in real time.

Fenix suffered the injury when he went through a table courtesy of a Luchasaurus chokeslam. As seen in the video below, Fenix grabbed his left arm and called for help immediately after the spot.

The Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus) would eventually defeat The Lucha Brothers to capture the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
