Shayna Baszler Opens Up About Backstage Presence At NXT, Future In WWE, and Interest in Japan Return

Shayna Baszler sparked plenty of chatter earlier this week after being listed as a producer for the Kelani Jordan vs. Lainey Reid match on WWE NXT. While rumors suggested the Queen of Spades might be transitioning into a backstage role, Baszler took to Twitch to clear the air—and tease what could lie ahead.

During a recent livestream, Baszler confirmed that she was indeed at the WWE Performance Center, but insisted her presence was more about learning than producing. “I happened to be at the PC working with people,” she explained. “I’m not gonna out the people that requested I work with them. So please, the dirt sheets are usually wrong, so do not believe stuff.”

Baszler shed more light on her visit, revealing that she was taking inspiration from a piece of advice given to her by Bryan Danielson (formerly Daniel Bryan in WWE). “He always told me he learned the most just sitting on the headset backstage,” she said. “Learning what the cameras look for, timing, cues—it helped him as a performer. So I figured, while I was home, I’d go to NXT and sit on the headset.”

According to Baszler, the unique atmosphere at NXT allowed her to take advantage of that opportunity. “On RAW or SmackDown, you’re not usually allowed in Gorilla unless you’re in the segment, unless you’re a top guy,” she noted. “But at NXT, because I was a top talent there, I could do it. I was there to learn.”

She also took part in some in-ring work, noting that she’s still technically under WWE contract during her 90-day no-compete window. “A couple of my friends got the okay for me to help out in the ring. It just happened to be on a Tuesday. I sat on a headset, that’s it,” she said, downplaying any official producer role. “Could the possibility be there? Sure. But I’d have to decide if I’m ready to be done [with wrestling]. I still think I have some stories to tell.”

That said, Baszler didn’t close the door on working behind the scenes one day. “A part of me hopes the powers that be at WWE see all the talk online and think about it,” she admitted. “That would be great, right? I can’t throw myself on the floor until I’m 60.”

As for what’s next, Baszler hinted that her in-ring journey might still have a few detours—possibly overseas. “Honestly, I really kind of want to go back to Japan,” she said. “I’ve wrestled most of the Joshi talent I’ve wanted to—except for a couple.”

Whether it’s one more run inside the ring or a future behind the curtain, it’s clear Baszler isn’t done with pro wrestling—she’s just evolving. And for fans of the former NXT Women’s Champion, that’s a storyline worth following.

Reason Why WWE Changed Jordynne Grace’s Entrance Music

Jordynne Grace has been making waves since stepping into NXT, but this week, it wasn’t just her dominant win over Lola Vice that had people talking—it was her brand-new entrance music. During Tuesday’s episode of WWE NXT, Grace walked out to a fresh theme ahead of her victory in a qualifying match for next week’s NXT Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Fatal Four-Way. But the WWE Performance Center crowd made it loud and clear: they weren’t feeling the change.

According to Fightful Select, WWE swapped out Grace’s old theme—one she owns the rights to and used during her TNA run and early NXT appearances—for something new due to a couple of key reasons. First, WWE has reportedly doubled down on only using entrance music they fully control from a rights standpoint. Second, Grace’s original theme opened with sirens, which officials felt sounded too much like Raw star Bron Breakker’s entrance—sirens that carry deep roots in wrestling lore thanks to Breakker’s ties to the Steiner family.

Since Breakker’s sound had historical weight and WWE priority, Grace’s music had to be altered.

Fans weren’t shy about voicing their disapproval. “Fire Def Rebel” chants broke out in the PC—Def Rebel being WWE’s in-house music production team responsible for most superstar themes. Grace, to her credit, handled the crowd reaction with trademark humor, later tweeting, “I know what the streets are saying,” before cheekily adding that fans need to “suspend your disbelief and vibe with it.”

One fan responded saying they wouldn’t be vibing, to which Grace clapped back with a playful jab: “Let me know what you’re wearing next week so I can jump the barricade.”

Love it or hate it, the new music isn’t going anywhere for now. Grace will walk out to the updated theme once again next Tuesday when she steps into a high-stakes Fatal Four-Way against Lash Legend, Izzi Dame, and Jaida Parker. The winner earns a shot at NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne at NXT Evolution.

Jordynne Grace Unveils New Entrance Music, Crowd Not Impressed- Chant: “Fire Def Rebel”

Jordynne Grace made waves on this week’s WWE NXT—and not just for her in-ring performance. During her match against Lola Vice, the TNA Knockouts Champion debuted a brand-new entrance theme… but the fans in attendance weren’t exactly feeling it.

As Grace made her entrance, the crowd at the WWE Performance Center broke out in an unmistakable chant: “Fire Def Rebel.” The pointed jab was directed at WWE’s in-house music production team, signaling that this latest track may have missed the mark with fans used to more impactful themes.

Despite the rocky musical reception, Grace handled business in the ring. She defeated Vice and punched her ticket to the upcoming Fatal 4-Way match set for the June 24 edition of NXT. There, she’ll battle Lash Legend, Jaida Parker, and Izzi Dame for a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship, currently held by Jacy Jayne. The title match is scheduled to take place at WWE Evolution.

Though the crowd may not have loved the new theme, Grace’s momentum in NXT continues to build—and with Evolution on the horizon, she’s just one win away from a golden opportunity.

Mariah May Reveals New WWE Persona On NXT (Blake Monroe), Changes Twitter Handle

Former AEW standout Mariah May has officially transformed into Blake Monroe — and she made that known in true star fashion. Ahead of this week’s episode of WWE NXT, May updated her X (formerly Twitter) handle to reflect her new identity, setting the stage for a high-impact reveal during the show.

Monroe, who debuted on NXT last week fresh off the expiration of her AEW contract, is wasting no time making waves. In a slickly produced video package aired on Tuesday’s broadcast, the newly-minted Monroe was introduced to the NXT Universe in a scene straight out of Hollywood. The segment featured her lounging in a bubble bath, as a news report-style voiceover narrated her arrival with lines like, “She’s beauty. She’s grace. And she will probably punch you in the face.”

Channeling both glamour and menace, Monroe exited the bath, got dolled up in high fashion, and dropped a towel in a Sabrina Carpenter-inspired visual cue to reveal a black outfit and fierce pose. A comic-book style animation then sealed the deal: Mariah May is no more — Blake Monroe has arrived.

Later in the night, WWE confirmed Monroe would be back on NXT next week to make things official by signing her contract. There’s no confirmed in-ring debut date yet, but fans won’t have to wait long to see when she steps between the ropes.

It’s worth noting that Monroe’s last match took place in March at AEW Revolution, where she came up short in a “Hollywood Ending” against Toni Storm. Now, with a bold rebrand and a target set squarely on Jacy Jayne’s NXT Women’s Championship, Monroe looks ready to make her next act her biggest yet.

Former AEW Star Mariah May Shocks WWE Universe With Glamorous NXT Debut

The WWE women’s division just got a whole lot more glamorous.

In a jaw-dropping moment on this week’s episode of WWE NXT, former AEW Women’s Champion Mariah May officially made her WWE debut, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. With recent main roster call-ups like Roxanne Perez, Giulia, and Stephanie Vaquer leaving a talent gap in NXT, May’s arrival sets the tone for a fresh wave of women’s division shake-ups.

Surprise Arrival in the Midst of Chaos

As chaos unfolded during a segment involving new NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne and a locker room-wide brawl on the entrance ramp, the lights at the WWE Performance Center flickered — a classic signal that something (or someone) big was about to happen. When they came back on, standing on a platform above the crowd was none other than Mariah May.

With the crowd erupting in disbelief and excitement, May delivered a short but powerful message:
“Ladies, you can call me the next NXT Women’s Champion because the best women’s division in the world just got a lot more glamorous.”

A bold statement from a bold competitor — and one that immediately puts her in the title conversation.

AEW Exit, WWE Entry — Fast and Quiet

May’s transition from AEW to WWE was kept under wraps with impressive secrecy. According to Fightful Select, WWE locked her in on a multi-year deal and made every effort to prevent leaks — to the point where the other women involved in her debut segment were only informed about her presence moments before it went down.

Interestingly, WWE never referred to her by name on air, instead referencing her “glamorous” persona. While fans were quick to spot her identity, the broadcast maintained the mystique. There’s no confirmation yet on whether WWE plans to keep her real name — Mariah May (full name: Mariah May Mead) — or rebrand her with a new ring name, but signs suggest her established identity could remain intact.

No Burned Bridges in AEW

Despite making a high-profile jump to WWE, it seems May left AEW on good terms. Fightful noted that AEW insiders didn’t believe there was any heat or bad blood surrounding her departure. In fact, the promotion reportedly made a strong attempt to re-sign her but knew well in advance that she was likely WWE-bound. Her contract officially expired at the beginning of June, and she wasted no time making her next move.

Fans have long speculated about May’s desire to join WWE, especially with old social media posts highlighting her admiration for the company dating back to before she even entered the wrestling business. And now that admiration has turned into reality.

What’s Next for NXT?

Mariah May enters an NXT women’s division in flux — and primed for new stars. With Jacy Jayne freshly crowned champion and other big names moving up, May is stepping into a golden opportunity to instantly climb the ranks. Her past accolades — including the AEW Women’s Championship and the 2023 Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament win — speak for themselves.

Whether WWE chooses to tweak her name or not, one thing is certain: Mariah May has arrived, and she’s ready to make NXT her runway.
