Update On Upcoming NWA Tapings, News On NWA Content Being Removed From YouTube

NWA is reportedly going to hold a new set of TV tapings from March 21-24, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Radio.

There was uncertainty of the promotion’s future after all of its content was deleted from its YouTube channel over the weekend.

The videos were removed because of a new distribution deal that should be announced soon. NWA content will be available through their new partner. I was not told specifically who the new partner is, but I was able to confirm that it is not WWE or AEW.

This deal will add some new revenue for the company, which is more than they were making from the ads on their YouTube channel.

As reported by Dave Meltzer, a “positive announcement” is expect soon from NWA, also noting it had nothing to do with AEW.

The promotion’s last set of tapings took place in Atlanta, Georgia in late-January 2020. Since then, NWA has worked with AEW and UWN to have their champions appear and defend their titles — most notably, Thunder Rosa and NWA Women’s World Champion Serena Deeb in All Elite Wrestling.

NWA Sends Survey To Fans Ahead Of Potential Return Of Powerrr

Recently the NWA has been featured on the United Wrestling Network but many fans have wondered if NWA Powerrr will return. NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis assured fans that Powerrr is not going anywhere, and NWA President Billy Corgan confirmed Powerrr’s return. Some have recently received an email with a survey ahead of the show’s return.

The contents of the email said that the survey would help NWA “gauge your interest in the NWA,” and it would “allow us to show potential sponsors that wrestling is a product worth investing in.”

The survey asks typically questions like gender, age, education and financial status. The survey then asks fans their level of NWA fandom, if they are a subscriber to the WWE Network and any other paid wrestling subscription service, how likely they are to buy a NWA PPV and what factors would lead them to buy a PPV and if they have ever purchased merchandise from the NWA.

A return date has not been confirmed, but the email acknowledged how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed wrestling and NWA’s goal in trying to figure out the best way to bring back Powerrr.

“The landscape of wrestling has changed over this past year for no fault of anyone’s,” the email for the survey read. “We are working and trying to determine the best way to bring back Powerrr. With the answers to these survey questions, we can begin planning even further. As always our end goal is to provide you the fan great quality entertainment while honoring the history and legacy of the NWA name.”

Jim Cornette Resigns From NWA Following Controversial Comments

On last night’s episode of NWA Powerrr, Jim Cornette made some offensive remarks that ended up getting the episode temporarily pulled so NWA could edit the comments out.

During the broadcast Cornette said, “Trevor Murdoch is the only person who can strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia. Trevor Murdoch can take care of himself!”

Earlier today, NWA announced Jim Cornette has resigned from the company, and NWA will also implement a new procedure to review programming before it airs:

Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance. To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we’ve established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward.

We sincerely regret our failure in this regard.

Cornette commented this morning, “Morning everybody! Heard any good jokes lately? This coming Friday’s Jim Cornette Experience (wherever you find your favorite podcasts) is liable to be a good one if you like hearing stupid people told what they can do with their stupidity.”

NWA Worlds Champion Nick Aldis also gave his thoughts on the situation, calling Cornette’s remarks “in poor taste and unnecessary.”

NWA Temporarily Takes Down Latest NWA Powerrr Episode Over Jim Cornette Remark

NWA Vice President David Lagana announced on social media that they had to temporarily pull last night’s episode of NWA Powerrr over comments made by Jim Cornette.

Lagana tweeted, “On tonight’s episode of NWA Powerrr airing on November 19th 2019, one of our talents made comments which some viewers found offensive. We deeply regret the error and apologize. We have temporarily taken the program down while we correct this error.”

Jim Cornette’s comment that offended fans was, “Trevor Murdoch is the only person who can strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia. Trevor Murdoch can take care of himself!”
