CM PUNK SIGNS WITH UFC

20141206-220409.jpg

NOPE you’re not dreaming you read the headline correctly. The self proclaimed “Best in the world” is trading in his wrestling boots for some UFC gloves. It was announced on air from the UFC181 ppv in Las Vegas with the help of UFC commentator Joe Rogan that none other then CM Punk has signed with the UFC.

It is being said that Punk will be making his octagon debut in 2015 as a fighter in the middleweight division. It should be noted the Punk does have extended training in BJJ and has friends in the organization. You can read more about this major announcement here http://m.ign.com/articles/2014/12/07/cm-punk-signs-with-ufc

How do you feel about this announcement. This wouldn’t be the first time a former WWE superstar has transition into the fight world. Do you think Punk will fit in? Do you think it’s a bad move?

Personally I think the move will gain a lot of crossover fans and if this is something punk wants I’m all for it. One question remains though. Will he be fighting under CM Punk or Phill Brooks?? Only time will tell

Leslie Smith Update

20141120-121549.jpg

Unless your not an MMA fan or you’ve been living under a rock for the last 5 days then you would know about the gruesome injury women’s battemweight fighter Leslie “The peacemaker Smith sustained at UFC180 at the hands of Jessica “Evil” Eye. I mean that’s all social media was talking about… But if your not let’s catch you up to speed shall we? Feel free to (click on the link to see the injury happen)

But there’s good news for Smith fans. With only 5 days removed from injury the “peacemakers” ear looks almost as good as new. So props to the doctors that stitched her back together. Further more props to Smith for wanting to continue the fight and even props to Eye for finding a target and working on it.

It’s always good news when you see fighters heal up just fine. I look forward to what’s next for both Leslie Smith and Jessica Eye

A decade of badassery

20141031-161328.jpg

Do you remember what you were doing on October 31st 2003? My 12 year old self was trick or treating in my neighborhood dressed as the infamous Jason Voorhees. I remember I used my brothers Friday the 13th mask covered in blood, my ensemble included a gray long sleeve thermal, with a jean jacket over it, topped off with some ripped up jeans splattered in blood. (Fake of corse) it wasn’t the best but my mom made do and honestly it’s a moment I treasure especially because my mom is no longer with me.

I’m sure some of you where trick or treating as well. Or maybe you were taking your kids out for candy? Maybe you were at a party or watching scary movies?

That is unless you were Shayna Baszler. October 31st 2003 is when Shayna Baszler made her pro mma debut at the age of 23, in a barn in the middle of nowhere for a local MMA show then known as NHB (no holds bard) for an organization called RCF (Reality Cage Fighting). Her opponent? Tina Johnson a girl that had been running her mouth because no one had beaten her. Shayna coming from a family of wrestlers wanted nothing more then to put an end to the trash talk. Little did she know it would become something she loved and through that love become the “queen of spades.

Of corse Baszler went on to defeat Johnson that night and has been proving since then that she is one of the best time and time again. Defeating the likes of Alexis Davis, Sarah D’alellio, Julie Kedzie, Roxanne Modaferri, Megumi Yabyushita and so much more. I mean some people even say she should’ve got the decision win over Sara Mcmann. Nonetheless her 15-9 record speaks for itself.Sure it’s been a battle of highs and lows even a few injuries but that doesn’t take away all Baszler has accomplished in the sport and done for the sport as a whole. Today she is regarded as one of the pioneers who paved the way for WMMA

Sure I may have not been there since Baszler’s humble beginnings but I have been there for 416 days and those are days that I am proud of. After all I’ve gotten the nickname “the general of the queens army” on social media.

A lot can change in 11 years but one thing that hasn’t changed is Shayna’s passion and drive for what she does, so here’s to a bright future of epic battles, awesome promos, twitter wars and just straight up badassery.

Holly Holm To Make UFC Debut At UFC 181

Holly Holm

Undefeated former world boxing champion Holly Holm will make her long-awaited UFC debut on December 6th against The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 18 veteran Raquel Pennington at UFC 181 in Las Vegas.

Holm (7-0), a 32-year old who compiled a 33-2-3 boxing record & several world titles across 3 different weight classes, is unbeaten since making her transition into MMA in 2011. In that time, Holm has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the women’s 135-pound division, knocking out 6 of her 7 opponents, often in spectacular fashion.

Her UFC 181 opponent, Raquel Pennington (4-4) has split her last 2 UFC appearances.

Jessica Eye vs Leslie Smith set for UFC180

20140926-194303.jpg

The WMMA God’s are trying to kill me, and quite possibly the whole WMMA fan base. It may sound like a negative connotation but THIS is a good thing. Earlier today it was announced that Zingano will be next to face Rousey if she could beat Nunes tomorrow. Dana also said he would like Rousey to have a quick turn around and fight in march as well!

The awesome news doesn’t stop there because its official that when the UFC makes their first appearance in Mexico not only will heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez be defending his title against Fabricio Werdum but we also have an AWESOME women’s batemweight bout.

It’ll be Jessica “Evil” Eye VS Leslie “Peacemaker Smith. Eye is looking for her first official UFC win. In October 13th of last year Eye picked up a split decision win against Sara Kaufman but it was overturned due to Eye’s usage of marijuana. Then in February she suffered a lost to Alexis Davis.

As far as smith goes she is coming off a win over Jessamyn Duke from July. This fight should be a good one. Who’s excited? I know I am 🙂

Hey, everyone! Celine here!

Hey, everyone!

My name is Celine and I’m the newest contributor to VasquezSports.com. I’m a 21 year old journalist and writer out of Southern California who has a passion for all things sports, with professional wrestling and MMA holding a special place in my heart.

I was born and raised a San Francisco 49ers fan so I bleed red and gold. While I’m a writer, music lover, photographer, and film addict, pro wrestling especially holds special to me.

I remember growing up and hearing such legendary names of famous professional wrestlers as Hulk Hogan and Macho Man. They seemed so strong, amazing, and athletic, so I’d casually watch the World Wrestling Federation and World Championship Wrestling. As I grew older, the Attitude Era came and I fell in love with The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. I remember learning about the Four Horsemen during the classic NWA era of wrestling and I have memories of the nWo and with the likes of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash along with Booker T and Goldberg.

But it wasn’t until the summer of 2005, July to be exact, when I fell in love with the WWE…World Wrestling Entertainment, with the Dominick storyline with the late, great Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio. I saw familiar faces like Chris Jericho and the Undertaker from my youth, and some new ones, too, like John Cena and Randy Orton.

Soon, I was hooked and have been a proud fan ever since.

I received a shirt from my first WWE Live Event that said, “WWE…An Experience Like No Other” and I realized how amazingly true that was.

I admire, love, adore, and respect every single professional wrestler. Be it the WWE, TNA Impact, ROH, NJPW, the indies, I love them all. They are on the road around 300 days a year, putting their bodies on the line, away from their families, doing something that they love to do and doing it for the fans. Call it fake, call it scripted, call it stupid, whatever you want, but to me, it’s simply amazing. The blood, sweat, and even tears that they endure. All that goes into making this entertainment spectacle come to life. The thrill. The rush. The strength. The athleticism. The lessons taught to inspire all of us to be more hard working, focused, and dedicated, proving that such attributes can lead us to becoming amazing individuals in life with dedication. The passion alone. It is one of my many loves, so long live wrestling.

Currently, my favorites include Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and the Wyatt Family, with AJ Lee and Paige among my favorite divas while Austin Aries, Bobby Lashley, and Gail Kim are my favorites from TNA Impact.

This is a lengthy introduction and I appreciate everyone who took the time to read this. I’m happy to be a part of VasquezSports and I want to send a huge shout out and thank you to Vanessa, one of my best friends who I have known for years. I am beyond happy and excited to be a member of this team and look forward to bringing you all exciting news, updates, and interesting thoughts, opinions, and various perspectives on the world of professional wrestling. Thanks for reading!

Dawn of a new day

Hey guys!
Our site is back up. Yay. As many of you may or may not know yesterday on DTRTwrestling’s Sunday Podcast the announcement was made that I (Vanessa) will be taking over complete ownership of the site. What exactly does this mean? It means “DTRTwrestling” is now my soul responsibility. It means that I also will be taking complete control of the social media accounts. My buddies Ed and Trevor have built this site from the ground up and feel that it’s time to move on from the site. They trust me so they have elected me as the new owner. Our contributor John Bass will stay on staff and Ed Boston will continue joining me for our weekly podcast until the end of October.

As far as new things and new direction of the site goes it’ll pretty much revelry the things that are near and drear to my heart. What does that mean you ask? Well here’s your answer. The focal point will indeed be women in the world of pro wrestling and MMA. Rest assured though because the men of those sports will also be getting plenty of love so this isn’t some type of sexist reconstruction. A new name will also be given to the site and the social media accounts (new name TBA)

So guys and gals that may be reading this I hope you will continue to follow this site on the new journey it’s about to embark on. Your support is why I LOVE what I do!
Shout out to Ed and Trevor for trusting me right this it means the world. You guys have become like family to me and I hope you know I truly do mean that! To John thank you for wanting to stick with me.

There you have it guys new things are happening so get excited. Love you all
