Mark Henry’s Son – ‘I Have Officially Signed A Deal With WWE’

Mark Henry’s son Jacob has signed with WWE.

Taking to Twitter, Jacob Henry posted a video where he announced during his dad’s set at the Remix Rumble in Cleveland, OH that he’s signed with the company.

Jacob noted that more news will be “coming out in a couple of days,” but he wanted the people present to know first that he’s a future WWE Superstar and that it’s been “put on paper … I have officially signed a deal with WWE.”

Back in July, Mark Henry said the following regarding his son:

“I don’t think he wants to follow me. He wants to be more like MJF. He wants to be more Miz, he wants to be more like The Rock.”

Lio Rush Reportedly Turns Down New WWE Offer But Says He’s “Broke”, Mark Henry Responds

Lio Rush continued to respond this week to some of the reports on his backstage heat and issues with WWE.

Rush said in an interview with Fightful that his issues are not with Bobby Lashley or working with him, but with not being paid for merchandise that uses his catchphrase, and not being paid what he feels he’s worth.

“My issue has never been with Bobby Lashley. Being with Bobby has helped the both of us out tremendously,” Rush said. “It’s given me speaking confidence I didn’t know i had. I never was a promo guy on the indies. But being with Bobby made me a promo guy. My issue isn’t with my on screen role. My issue is the fact that I haven’t been on meet and greets with Bobby, haven’t been getting paid for merchandise for us that has my catchphrases on them. (I) have been sent to live shows and TVs and forced to pay for my own rental for 5 days as well as hotel while not making enough money to do so. Walking around broke in the biggest sports entertainment industry that there is while having two kids and a wife to support.”

Rush also said he believes someone in WWE is leaking false information to get him released.

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry appeared on Busted Open Radio earlier today and spoke on the Rush situation. Henry noted that he started with WWE in 1996 and helping WWE Hall of Famer Yokozuna was one of his responsibilities.

“It’s not a race issue, it’s an ego issue,” Henry said. “Who are you? Nobody is exempt from being respectful to the business and paying homage to the guys drawing money. We all have done it. Steve Austin did it, The Rock did it. You’re better than The Rock? Get the hell out of here.”

Henry also said he recently approached Rush to ask him about some of the issues. He said, “I pulled him aside the last time I saw him and told him, ‘I’m hearing stuff in the locker room, what’s wrong?’ He said nothing’s wrong, but it was a blatant lie to my face. I let him know that if he has a question, right now is the time to do that.”

Regarding Rush’s issues on pay, Henry said he needs to change the way he spends. Henry said, “If you can’t pay for a rental car and you can’t pay for a hotel with the money that you’re making every week, you need to change the way you’re spending. You can’t blame that on the office. If you spent everything before you got it, that’s your problem.”

Henry is said to be a huge supporter of Rush behind-the-scenes, according to PWInsider. PWInsider also reported on the issues, noting that there has been a lot of talk about Rush’s future within WWE, and there were rumors of Rush being moved back to WWE NXT in the near future.

PWInsider also reported that Rush has been a polarizing figure backstage for some time among the other wrestlers, going back to the November 2018 tour where he blew off what has been considered standard backstage etiquette for junior members of the roster on overseas tours, including being at the Gorilla position backstage to provide water to talents as they returned after their matches, and carrying coolers and drinks into the hotels where talents were staying, to set up a common area where everyone could privately socialize together. These tasks are often done to show respect to the locker room and the business as a whole. Several veterans reportedly tried to explain to Rush that he was making a mistake then, but he blew off the advice and complained to WWE officials, which didn’t do him any favors. Things with Rush have calmed down in recent months, but there have been other issues. Rush allegedly has brought his friends and relatives backstage without the proper credentials, and there have been other moments where he has blown off counsel from senior members of the RAW roster.

As we’ve noted, Rush has been off WWE TV for a few weeks now due to the heat he has. Rush previously addressed the reports on Twitter after it was reported that he has heat due to how he makes it very clear that he should be the top guy on the RAW brand, and he’s not shy about sharing these thoughts, as seen below:

In an update, PWInsider reports that there were multiple complaints made about Rush bringing his wife backstage and allowing her to change clothes in the women’s locker room, dating back to the 2018 European tour. There was another incident where Rush brought a group of people backstage at a 2018 TV taping. The group allegedly were stopped for not all having proper credentials and they loudly began yelling at a female member of WWE’s security crew, which obviously didn’t sit well with others backstage. A veteran talent, not Balor, reportedly tried to talk to Rush about the issues but he was told by Rush that he “works for Vince, not you.” WWE officials later approached that veteran talent as Rush complained about getting spoke to by the talent, because he was not an executive in the company and was “Rush’s equal, not his boss.” Word of this made the rounds and that led to Rush being removed from the locker room for a period of time after the tour and that’s when his issues became less of a regular occurrence backstage. That has changed in recent weeks.

Despite the problems, Rush was reportedly recently offered a new five-year contract, said to be in the range of $300,000. Rush reportedly turned that offer down and asked for double the pay. His current contract expires in 2020 some time. Regarding the rumors of sending Rush back to NXT, the idea would be to build him a new character and present him as something more than just a mouthpiece. Rush reportedly suggested, at least once, that WWE should release him so he can “show them” what he can accomplish outside of the company. There’s no word yet on when Rush will return to WWE TV, but he has reportedly been pulled from the upcoming European tour, a decision made a week ago. Rush has been backstage for RAW, but obviously not used.

Mark Henry Plans To Donate Brain To CTE Research

Former WWE star Christopher Nowinski was on Busted Open Radio earlier this morning talking about his work with concussions. The co-founder and President of the Concussion Legacy Foundation (CLF), Nowinski has made it a career to inform people about and study the effects of concussions on individuals. Those who have passed on help answer the questions of how CTE affects the brain. During the segment, Nowinski spoke about how he sometimes has to call widows of recently deceased athletes in order to study on their brain.

The organization gets over 5,000 alive athletes to pledge to donate their brain, and they recently had their 700th brain donation. WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry, who is a co-host on the show and someone who has had multiple concussions in the past, stated on air that he plans to donate his brain to the CLF for research.

“I definitely want to go on record saying I am donating my brain to the brain bank,” Henry went on to say. “I hope that something good can come out of ya’ll having my brain, maybe it’ll help with figuring out how things work in the future that will be benefitting my kids and everybody else’s kids. I know you (Chris) have a beautiful young baby girl and we always want the future to be better for our families.”

Nowinski, a Tough Enough finalist, debuted on WWE TV in 2002. His career was cut short due to post-concussion syndrome, which forced him to retire around 2003/04. Since then, he has helped with the discovery of CTE, while also providing a service for athletes and those in the military. He was the lead advocate for doctors to research Chris Benoit’s brain after the 2007 tragedy that took him and his families life. He and the rest of the Benoit family have since made the Benoit Family Fund for Brain Injury Research.

Henry has been with WWE since 1996, taking on a backstage role recently. Before pro wrestling, Henry was a record-holding weight and powerlifter. A multiple-time World Champion, Henry’s goal is to avoid any young kid to go through what former athletes have in the past, by spreading awareness.

“I hope that people realize that this is something that is not weird. What would be hard I think would be what you just said: after someone nearly passes away, it is hard to ask their spouse for their brain for science,” Henry continued. “I am a donor, I hope that I can help somebody live if something tragically happened to me. This is another way that I’ll be able to give back when I’m gone.”

Mark Henry spoke with TMZ Sports about being a personal friend of 17-year old Draylen Mason, a victim of the recent bombings in Austin, Texas. Henry was asked about how the city was doing and called the young man a talent and that it was a hard loss.

“People were on edge, it’s very unfortunate that [Draylen Mason] died, he was a friend of the family,” Henry said. “I knew the kid pretty well, I know the Grandfather, really well, Dr. Mason. It was his Grandson, we spent a lot of time together. We’re in a couple different civic organizations together, try to help people out, it was just tragic to lose a kid like that so young. He was so full of life, so talented, a talented bassist. He traveled, competed, it was a hard loss.”

Mason was described as a talented student and bass player accepted into the selective Butler School of Music at the University of Texas at Austin.

Henry was then asked about the city of Austin recovering from the tragedy.

“Austin is a very resilient place, you have people from all over the country that live here, all of the world,” Henry responded. “We’re all about music, Austin needs to get more diverse, we’re not perfect, but we definitely need to get together and get everybody back on the same page. So we’re not walking around so much on eggshells.”

Mark Henry will be included in the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame class. The veteran Superstar will join Bill Goldberg, The Dudley Boyz, Ivory, Jeff Jarrett, Hillbilly Jim, Kid Rock and Jarrius “JJ” Robertson during the induction ceremony from the Smoothie King Center during WrestleMania 34 Weekend in New Orleans.

Mark Henry To Be Inducted Into The WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2018

WWE announced that Mark Henry will inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Henry joins Goldberg, The Dudley Boyz, Ivory, Jeff Jarrett, Hillbilly Jim, Kid Rock and Warrior Award recipient Jarrius “JJ” Robertson as those being honored during the 2018 Induction Ceremony on Friday, April 6, during WrestleMania 34 Week in New Orleans.

WWE issued the following:

Mark Henry took pride in giving countless Superstars a vicious induction into his Hall of Pain. During WrestleMania 34 Week, The World’s Strongest Man will enter a completely different hall.

As first reported by USA Today, Henry will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2018. He joins Goldberg, The Dudley Boyz, Ivory, Jeff Jarrett, Hillbilly Jim, Kid Rock and Warrior Award recipient Jarrius “JJ” Robertson as those being honored during the 2018 Induction Ceremony on Friday, April 6, during WrestleMania 34 Week in New Orleans.

Henry’s journey in professional sports began in the world of powerlifting. After becoming a prodigy in the weight room as a high-schooler, Henry broke out at the 1992 Summer Olympics. One year later, he won gold, silver and bronze medals at the 1993 Pan-American Games. His unbelievable power caught the eye of WWE officials, who signed him to become a Superstar in 1996. Shortly after competing in the 1996 Summer Olympics, Henry made his in-ring debut at In Your House: Mind Games, defeating fellow WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Henry excelled inside the squared circle as a member of The Nation of Domination alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and also became the notorious ladies’ man known as “Sexual Chocolate” during WWE’s over-the-top Attitude Era. While with WWE, Henry would foray into strongman competition and find great success, winning the 2002 Arnold Strongman Classic. Back in WWE, The World’s Strongest Man would use the power that won him that contest, pulling off incredible feats of strength for his fellow Superstars and the WWE Universe.

Soon, though, Henry would discover a mean streak like no other and unleash his rage on the WWE roster. Henry carved a path of destruction through Superstars like The Undertaker, Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio before making his way to ECW and capturing the brand’s top championship in his first match, defeating Kane and Big Show in the process. After returning to SmackDown, Henry’s penchant for punishment was given a name – his opponents weren’t just being beaten down; they were being inducted into The Hall of Pain.

Henry’s appetite for destruction brought him one of sports-entertainment’s top prizes – the World Heavyweight Championship, which he won by defeating Randy Orton at Night of Champions 2011. As The World’s Strongest Man’s career approached the two-decade mark, rumors of Henry’s retirement began to travel through the WWE Universe. Henry even played into the rumors, appearing on Monday Night Raw in June 2013 for what appeared to be a tearful retirement speech as John Cena watched on, though he shocked everyone by nearly driving Cena through the mat with his World’s Strongest Slam, boldly declaring “I’ve got a lot left in the tank!”

Henry continued competing with WWE through WrestleMania 33, while also taking on a new role as a talent scout and mentor, helping to prepare competitors like Braun Strowman, Baron Corbin, Apollo Crews and Bianca Belair for the rigors of the squared circle.

For the devastation he caused inside the ring, as well as the work he does to help the next generation of Superstars, there is no bigger honor for Mark Henry than to become The World’s Strongest Hall of Famer.

The 2018 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place on Friday, April 6, in New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center during WrestleMania 34 Week. Tickets are available now on Ticketmaster.
