Killswitch (Luchasaurus) Roars Back on AEW Dynamite, Set for Forbidden Door Showdown

AEW fans in Glasgow witnessed a massive return on this week’s Dynamite, as Killswitch (formerly Luchasaurus) stormed back onto the scene after nearly a year on the shelf. The big man is now officially locked in for a high-profile tag match at Forbidden Door, stepping in for the injured Nick Wayne.

The surprise came just moments after an emotional handshake between Christian Cage and Adam Copeland looked to signal a long-awaited truce. Before fans could digest that, Nick Wayne appeared on the screen, leaning on crutches and calling out Cage for the brutal attack that left him with a broken foot last week. Wayne announced he’d be sidelined for several weeks — but quickly teased that his absence might not be the setback it seemed.

That’s when things got wild. The broadcast cut to a chilling vignette inside a medical setting, showing IV bags and monitors before Killswitch suddenly sat up and let out a guttural roar. Seconds later, he emerged in the arena alongside Mother Wayne and Kip Sabian, staring down Cage and Copeland before chaos erupted.

The returning monster immediately made his presence felt, dropping both Cope and Cage with thunderous chokeslams while Sabian ate a beating in the crossfire. By the end of the melee, it was clear where Killswitch’s allegiance stood — right alongside Mother Wayne’s camp.

Killswitch will now take Wayne’s spot at Forbidden Door, teaming with Sabian against the reunited duo of Cage and Copeland in a clash of bad blood and broken trust.

This comeback marks Killswitch’s first AEW appearance since All In: London in August 2024, where he wrestled twice in one night as part of The Patriarchy. Shortly after, he was hospitalized with reported respiratory issues, including pneumonia, and had been off TV since. His return not only adds a powerhouse presence to the storyline but also raises the stakes heading into AEW’s crossover supershow.

With Cope and Cage finally on the same page, and the monstrous Killswitch rising from the shadows, Forbidden Door just got a whole lot more unpredictable.

AEW’s Killswitch (FKA Luchasaurus) Reportedly Backstage at Revolution, Potential Plans Unclear

It’s been months since AEW fans last saw Killswitch, formerly known as Luchasaurus, in action. The powerhouse of The Patriarchy hasn’t competed since AEW All In: London 2024, where he played a pivotal role in Christian Cage’s victory during the Casino Gauntlet Match. However, his absence from AEW programming wasn’t just a creative decision—it stemmed from a serious medical emergency related to a compromised immune system and sleep apnea.

Now, new reports suggest that Killswitch may be nearing a return. According to Fightful Select, the former TNT Champion was backstage at AEW Revolution last weekend and was reportedly available to be used in some capacity. The report also mentioned speculation of an “alternate ending” for the event, though no concrete details have emerged.

While it remains unclear whether Killswitch has been medically cleared to wrestle, discussions were reportedly held regarding his potential involvement in the heated segment between Christian Cage, Adam Copeland, and Jon Moxley. However, when Fightful inquired further about his role in the rumored “alternate ending,” sources went quiet.

Killswitch’s absence has been notable, especially given his role as Christian Cage’s loyal enforcer in The Patriarchy. If he is indeed ready to return, his reintroduction could shake up AEW’s landscape, particularly in the ongoing rivalry between Cage, Copeland, and Moxley. For now, fans will have to wait and see when—and how—he makes his presence felt once again.

Stay tuned for updates as more details emerge about Killswitch’s status in AEW.

AEW Star Killswitch (Fka Luchasaurus) Hospitalized With Serious Medical Condition

Just days away from the fifth anniversary episode of “AEW Dynamite,” it seems All Elite Wrestling will be without one of its original stars for an undisclosed period of time. On Monday, Fightful reported that Austin Matelson, who currently wrestles in AEW under the name Killswitch after initially being known as Luchasaurus, is dealing with a serious medical issue that has resulted in his hospitalization.

Fightful reports that Matelson’s fiancee “found him collapsed” this past Friday, after which he was taken to the hospital. Upon admission his blood oxygen level was found to be below 80% — dangerously low, considering the normal level is 95% – 100%. Doctors also discovered that Matelson had pneumonia in both lungs and that he was “days away from permanent lung damage.” Matelson has been on oxygen since Friday and was reportedly told he would need more than a month to recover, and it could be longer before he’s ready to return to the ring. Fightful says they received permission “from those close to” Matelson before reporting on the situation.

Matelson is a former AEW TNT, Tag Team, and Trios Champion, having won the tag titles in 2022 alongside Jack Perry back when Matelson was known as Luchasaurus, Perry was known as Jungle Boy and they were collectively known as Jurassic Express. The years since have seen Luchasaurus become Killswitch after turning on Perry at the behest of Christian Cage, who brought Killswitch into The Patriarchy; Cage and Killswitch were Trios Champions with fellow Patriarchy member Nick Wayne until AEW All In 2024, when they lost the belts to the Blackpool Combat Club at Wembley Stadium. Killswitch later helped Cage win a Casino Gauntlet Match the same night, resulting in Cage “earning” a guaranteed world championship opportunity. Killswitch hasn’t competed in the ring since Wembley.

AEW Hit With Copyright Lawsuit Over Luchasaurus’ Mask Design

A lawsuit has been filed over the mask design used by AEW’s Luchasaurus.

On December 20, Composite Effects, LLC made a legal complaint against AEW and Austin Matelson (the real identity of Luchasurus), claiming that copyrighted material is being used for merchandise without the designer’s permission.

Composite Effects claims that it owns licensing and design rights for the mask, which AEW has overstepped by producing merchandise. They state the following,

“Matelson was entitled to use the mask in events as a wrestler, but neither he nor anyone acting on his behalf was entitled to create merchandise that incorporated the mask design.”

The lawsuit features various examples of AEW using the mask design for merchandise, including on t-shirts and for action figures.

Matelson worked with Composite Effects in late 2016 for a modified version of their ‘Viper Silicone Mask’ and a modified version was created in March 2019 to add horns.

Composite Effects claims it wrote messages in 2022 to AEW and Matelson asking them to stop using the design or come to a licensing agreement, but no deal was made.

The case is filed in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Louisiana, where Composite Effects is based.

Luchasaurus Returns To AEW Television Following Hamstring Injury (Video)

Luchasaurus returned to AEW last night on Dynamite following a short absence due to injury.

Luchasaurus’ return went down after a tag match involving Jurassic Express and The Dark Order. Evil Uno offered Marko Stunt a spot as one of his creepers and Jungle Boy intervened. This led to Stu Grayson attacking him from behind.

The creepers then started to beat both wrestlers down and attempted to force one of their masks on Jungle Boy, but Luchasaurus came out to make the save.

After hitting a huge boot on the first creeper at the top of the stage, Luchasaurus made his way to the ring and landed a spin kick on three creepers at once. He also tossed one to the outside before turning his attention on Grayson.

Once the ring was cleared, Luchasaurus hugged Jurassic Express.

As we previously reported … the 34-year-old wrestler injured his hamstring prior to an episode of Dynamite last month. Excalibur noted on commentary that he was supposed to be out until January.

AEW Star Luchasaurus Injured

Luchasaurus did not compete on last night’s AEW Dynamite episode due to a hamstring injury.

Luchasaurus was scheduled to team with Jungleboy to face Rey Fenix and Pentagon in a first round match in the AEW Tag Team Titles tournament. Due to the injury, Jungleboy will now be teaming with Marko Stunt.

AEW officials reportedly decided to pull Luchasaurus from the match this afternoon, so he did not risk further injury.

There’s no word yet on when Luchasaurus will be back in action.

AEW Announces Luchasaurus Has Joined The Roster.

All Elite Wrestling announced on Twitter tonight that Luchasaurus has joined the roster.

Luchasaurus worked the Casino Battle Royale on the AEW Double Or Nothing “Buy In” pre-show this past Saturday night. He picked up 4 eliminations before being eliminated by the winner, “Hangman” Adam Page.

Real name Austin Matelson, Luchasaurus was previously signed to a WWE developmental deal under the name Judas Devlin in 2012. He worked for Florida Championship Wrestling, which would become WWE NXT, but was released in 2014 after suffering a severe spinal injury. He’s also wrestled for ROH and Lucha Underground, and was a house-guest on season 17 of Big Brother in 2015, where he came in 5th.

On a related note, Luchasaurus was asked on Twitter about his look and gimmick, and what it means. He replied, “I am a man wearing a mask. It’s an ironic commentary on rebellion. I’m an absurd character that represents something extinct in order to show the wrestling world that the preconceived idea of how a big man is suppose to wrestle is also extinct.”
