HBO is reportedly working on a documentary about New Japan Pro Wrestling star Kenny Omega, who is the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

Musician Joseph Shabason recently appeared on the Kreative Kontrol podcast and revealed that he had completed the musical score for the documentary. Shabason indicated that the documentary will air in earlt 2019.

“I just finished a documentary about a wrestler, that’s going to be coming out on HBO in the New Year, which is going to be really exciting,” he said. “It’s a wrestler named Kenny Omega, he’s a wrestler from Winnipeg, but he went to Japan and formed this tag team called The Golden Lovers, which was sort of the first-ever queer storyline in wrestling. … He’s a pretty incredible dude. I was really happy with scoring it.”

HBO found major success with their documentary on WWE Hall of Famer Andre the Giant that was released earlier this year along with WWE. Stay tuned for updates on when their Omega documentary will air.

Omega is set to defend his IWGP Heavyweight Title against Hiroshi Tanahashi at the NJPW WrestleKingdom 13 event from the Tokyo Dome on January 4.

Kenny Omega Is Toughing Out A Fractured Rib

IWGP Heavyweight champ Kenny Omega has revealed he’s currently suffering from a fractured rib … but the wrestler says he won’t be taking time off because he doesn’t want to disrespect the title.

Kenny talked about his injury situation while streaming a Mario Party session on Being the Elite‘s Twitch feed. Omega explained, “The foot is doing much better, it is my rib that is fractured right now.”

Adding, “My ribs are in a bad way, but what can you do … right? I’m not one of those guys that likes to try to brag. Like, ‘Hey, look. I’m injured and I’m so tough I’m gonna keep fighting.’ It’s not like that at all. It’s just you gotta do what you gotta do.”

The wrestler finished this portion of the conversation saying, “You just gotta go when you’re the champ, ya know? You can’t disrespect the belt. You can’t take days off.”

Kenny is scheduled to wrestle next month in a tag match with Kota Ibushi at Power Struggle.

Kenny Omega On WWE: I Would Feel Like It’s A Missed Opportunity If I Couldn’t Work With Them

Kenny Omega completed a long journey when he defeated Kacuchika Okada at NJPW’s Dominion show to become IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Now Omega is the top name in New Japan Pro Wrestling and is set to defend his new title at the Cow Palace this Saturday. Omega’s match at the G1 USA Special will not only be for his championship, but the leadership role in The Bullet Club is up for grabs as well.

WWE had Kenny Omega in their developmental territory for a short time when he performed in Deep South Wrestling, but he left in 2016 after only a year.

Omega previously told WrestlingINC’s Aaron Varble he feels he would do well in adapting to WWE’s environment. He was recently a guest on The Ross Report where The Cleaner was asked about the possibility of WWE and Omega joining forces down the line.

“I’ve been keeping up to date on kind of the goings on and I always at the very least look at the highlights of every show, both brands, 205 Live, and even the NXT stuff. I’m really happy for everyone that’s doing well there.

“I was able to work in a fantastic program with The New Day [at E3] and they really brought something special to that sort of feud because all three of those guys are very special athletes, they’re very special performers. They have a special kind of charisma. They know how to work the people, work for cameras, work for the TV. When I think about the possibilities of what it would be like if I could ever mix it up with some of those guys it gets me excited. because they are a lot of great performers.”

Omega continued discussing Superstars in WWE, but also stated how good the talent is in so many other promotions as well. He said it would be impossible to have a bad match at this point due to the rich talent available. It would also be a missed opportunity if he wasn’t able to eventually mix it up with some of the top names on WWE’s roster

“A lot of the guys that even though they came up through the indies you know we were in different stages of our lives and we never mixed it up together. I could say you know if I could work with Seth Rollins at some point in time that would be a lot of fun.

“So when I think about the possibilities of stuff like that it does get me excited. Now every promotion has so many good guys. There’s really no way I would have a bad time going almost anywhere because the depth of the talent is just so deep. WWE right now has a very great collection of talent with guys and I would feel like it’s a missed opportunity if I couldn’t work with them at some point.”

Kenny Omega Thinks NJPW/WWE Working Relationship Would Be Best For Business

kenny omega wwe njpw working relationship interview audio

WWE vs. NJPW event sounds like an impossible pipe dream, but Kenny Omega says he’d love to see a working relationship form between the two companies so it could happen.

Omega took part in a media call to promote NJPW‘s upcoming live G1 Special in San Francisco on AXS TV and at one point said he believes now is the time to ease up on “us vs. them” mentality.

As you may have seen, Triple H recently said WWE was open to the idea of forming working relationships with other organizations … which naturally got people talking about an NJPW alliance.

When asked about the WWE exec’s comments, Omega was on the exact same page.

“I definitely would want to see that,” he answered. “I think that nowadays, with the popularity and respect level of other sports — for example basketball, or baseball or soccer — I feel that it wouldn’t be out of place for pro wrestling to stand at the same level as those sports. And I think the only way we stand a chance at doing that is if we really band together and give them the best of the best.”

The Cleaner went on to say most “dream matches” currently on fan wishlists are, for the most part, people who compete in different promotions. This includes matches like The Elite vs. New Day or Tommaso Ciampa vs. Kenny Omega.

“I think that now is a very good opportunity to cash in on that. And I believe that both parties benefit.”

Xavier Woods And Kenny Omega To Battle In Street Fighter Showdown At E3

WWE.com posted the following:

Xavier Woods and independent wrestling star Kenny Omega have been engaging in a heated war of words on social media over who’s better at Street Fighter. The two rivals will converge at the Capcom booth during the E3 video game conference next Thursday to settle the score in a battle for supremacy.

The two have engaged in arcade fighting showdowns in the past, but the heat turned up once again on their rivalry when “The Cleaner” posted a video to Twitter, showing off his Street Fighter skills while calling out The New Day’s resident trombonist.

Woods didn’t take Omega’s insults lightly, firing right back at his rival.

Though Woods had to put the war of words on the backburner Tuesday night – The New Day were victorious in a Six-Man Tag Team Match on SmackDown LIVE – the fine people at Capcom, the makers of Street Fighter, interjected that they would be more than happy to facilitate a battle between the two. Both Woods and Omega took part in a verbal contract signing on the Street Fighter Twitter, in which neither man pulled any punches:

After some choice words from “The Cleaner,” the ground rules have been laid down for this struggle for supremacy, and Woods and Omega won’t be alone in this battle. Each man will select two partners, making this a 3-on-3 showdown in Street Fighter V. Woods is extremely confident in his partners, who have yet to be revealed, while claiming that Omega won’t be able to find anybody to meet the challenge.

Who will Woods and Omega choose as their partners? Keep your eyes on social media to find out, then tune in to CapcomFighters next Thursday to see who will emerge as the elite Street Fighter player!

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is due out on June 26 and Kenny Omega will be playing as the live action actor of one of the characters in the game, Cody, the new mayor of Metro City. In the video above, you can see Omega involved as part of the video game’s promotion and what his character is like in the game.

On Twitter, Omega commented on the role that he kept very close to the chest.

Wrestling fans have been making jokes about Omega playing this character due to the name and somewhat similar resemblance to Cody Rhodes. It should be noted the “Cody” in Street Fighterhas been a playable character since the late 90s.
