Kane Wins Knox County, Tennessee Mayor Republican Primary

WWE Superstar, Glenn Jacobs known as Kane, appeared to have won a mayoral primary race in Tennessee on Tuesday.

Jacobs, 51, was leading Brad Anders by 17 votes in the bid to represent the Republican Party in the race for Knox County mayor, Knox News reported. Jacobs was leading 14,633 to 14,616 with 100 percent of the precincts reporting.

The former professional wrestler declared victory in a tweet thanking everyone who helped his campaign win the Republican primary.

“Thanks to everyone who helped win this historic victory!! The people who cast a ballot for me, my great team, my wonderful volunteers,” he wrote. “Looking forward to VICTORY in the general election!”

Jacobs’ campaign is a far cry from his WWE days wrestling under the moniker Kane – “a monstrous abomination that seems to have been extracted directly from your childhood nightmares,” according his WWE bio.

The former champ is running on keeping taxes low, focusing on quality education, job creation, improved infrastructure and limited government.

Jacobs is hardly the first WWE superstar to take a run in politics. Jesse Ventura served as the governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003. Former ECW competitor Terrance Gerin, known commonly as Rhyno, ran for the Michigan House of Representatives in 2016 as a Republican, but lost in the general election by more than 8,000 votes, according to WXYZ-TV.

It appears Jacobs will be battling Democrat Linda Haney in the mayoral race, according to Knox News. The county’s general election is set for Aug. 2.

Kane To Run For Mayor Of Knox County, Tennessee

Glenn Jacobs, better known as WWE’s Kane, has reportedly filed paperwork that indicates he plans to run for mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.

According to WCYB, Jacobs submitted formal campaign documents March 1 that disclosed he had hired a treasurer to assist with his pursuit of the mayoral post.

In May 2016, Jacobs said he was mulling a bid for mayor because incumbent Tim Burchett’s term limit was set to expire in 2018 and he wanted to find ways to positively impact Knox County.

“I think the most important thing is I care very deeply about this community, like a lot of people do,” he said, per WBIR.com’s Mike Donila. “And that’s the only reason I would consider getting into any sort of government because I do care very deeply.”

Jacobs, who reportedly identifies as a Republican, is expected to have stiff competition in the Knox County mayoral race.

WCYB noted Knox County Commissioner Bob Thomas and Democrat Tracy Clough both took the same procedural steps as Jacobs and filed paperwork confirming they had also hired campaign treasurers.

It was noted that Kane’s current WWE deal has a $905,000 downside with first class travel and accommodations, and it is set to expire next year.

Kane Running For Mayor In Knox County, Tennessee?

Source: WrestlingINC

Kane (Glenn Jacobs) spoke with the local NBC affiliate in Knoxville, Tennessee and said he’s seriously considering a run as a Republican for the Knox County mayoral seat in 2018. Kane says he will make his decision later this year after the presidential election. He commented:

“Yes, I’ve talked about it with some folks but there’s nothing too solid yet. Mayor Burchett’s term is coming up and I think he’s been really good for Knox County. I think the most important thing is I care very deeply about this community, like a lot of people do. And that’s the only reason I would consider getting into any sort of government because I do care very deeply. And I think it’s incumbent upon people who care about the communities to try to make a difference.”

Kane is apparently running on keeping county taxes low. He said:

“What I’ve seen in Knox County the past several years is that taxes have remained low because it’s a great place to live. People move here and that helps expands the tax base. My political philosophy is the ‘smaller the better. Government should stay out of the way and let free enterprise do what it does best.”

It would be an interesting career change for Kane as the county mayor earns around $170,000 annually and oversees almost 1,000 employees with a more than $750 million budget.
