Jon Jones suspended indefinitely

After being involved in a hit and run Sunday morning in Albuquerque New Mexico UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been stripped of his title and has been suspended indefinitely from the UFC. Jones was arrested on Monday in Albuquerque on allegations of leaving the scene of an accident, which is a felony charge in New Mexico due to one of the drivers suffering a fractured wrist and arm. The injured driver, later identified as Vanessa Sonnenberg, was taken to the hospital because she is pregnant and felt like she might pass out at the scene.

UFC president Dana White made the announcement regarding Jones  via FOX Sports Live on Tuesday night. White Dana white said he had a chance to speak with Jones early on Tuesday before the promotion took any action against him. White had this to say.
“He didn’t say a lot. Obviously, he’s got to handle his legal proceedings,

“His lawyer didn’t have him say much. What we wanted to find out is what the facts were. There’s a lot of things that are being said out there about what happened that day, a lot of them are untrue, a lot of them are speculation, and we wanted to hear Jon’s side of the story and we wanted to hear what his lawyer had to say about it.”

Now with Jon Jones being out of UFC187 the new main event will now be Daniel Cormier vs Anthony Johnson for the light heavyweight title.

Dana white Also said that “Jones is obviously very disappointed about what happened. He wanted to go down as the greatest of all time but it is what it is and we had to make the right call.”

At this moment Jon Jone’s future with the UFC is up in the air. Jones has yet to speak out publicly on the situation but he did send out this tweet.

Jon Jones Update: Named As Suspect

Jon Jones has officially been named as a suspect in a hit-and-run investigation.

“Yes, he is the suspect and we’re hoping that he will contact us to give us his side of the story,” said Simon Drobik, Albuquerque Police Department spokesman to MMAFighting.com. Drobik squashed the rumors that cocaine was found in the rental car. However, according to Brett Okamoto, a marijuana pipe was found in the car.

This weekend a woman was struck in a hit-and-run and Jones was identified by an officer fleeing on foot.

According to several, Jones hadn’t been heard from in well over 24 hours. His manager calmed the rumors that Jones’ planned UFC 187 fight with Anthony Johnson was off, saying he’s not heard anything like that as of yet.

UFC released the following statement:

“We are aware that the Albuquerque Police Department is interested in speaking to Jon Jones regarding his possible involvement in a motor vehicle accident. We are in the process of gathering facts and will reserve further comment until more information is available.”

Jon Jones UFC 187 bout in jeopardy

It was reported earlier today on various news sites that UFC light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones was involved in a hit and run accident involving a middle age women in Albuquerque New Mexico. The women was sent to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. It was also reported that drugs were found at the scene but that rumor was not confirmed.

It is now being said via mma fighting that the Albuquerque PD is looking to question Jones about the incident, however Jones’ whereabouts are unknown. At this moment he is not being looked at as a suspect. This is what the Albuquerque PD had to say about the matter

We can not confirm that Jon Jones was involved in a H&R traffic accident from this morning. The investigation is ongoing.

Jones is scheduled to defend his title next month at UFC 187 against Anthony Rumble Johnson but it is now believed that the fight is in jeopardy.

This wouldn’t be the first time Jones has be in a troublesome situustion. Earlier this year be tested postive for cocaine following his bout with Daniel Cormier. This sent the champion to rehab but he shortly checked himself out after just 24 hours.

It should also be noted that Jones was not penalized for testing “dirty” and many fans feel that he should be stripped of the title especially if he was directly involved in this hit and run. I may not be found of Jones but to me it seems like he needs help and I sincerely hope he gets it.

Only time will tell what will happen with this situation. We here at WNB will keep you all updated on the matter so keep checking back for updates.
