WWE Officially Announces “Superstar Spectacle” Event With Jinder Mahal And Other Top Stars

WWE has officially announced the Superstar Spectacle event for Tuesday, January 26.

There’s no word yet on when the two-hour event will air on the WWE Network, but it will air at 8pm IST in India on Sony Ten 1, Sony Ten 3, and Sony MAX. There will be commentary in English and Hindi. It’s been reported that the event will tape next Thursday, from the WWE ThunderDome at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL.

The event will feature Superstars from WWE NXT, RAW and SmackDown. Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has been announced for the show. It will be his first appearance since undergoing knee surgery in June of 2020.

Other Indian talent announced include The Bollywood Boyz, Indus Sher, Jeet Rama, Kavita Devi, Guru Raaj, Giant Zanjeer and Dilsher Shanky. Also announced for the card are WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Charlotte Flair, SmackDown Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, AJ Styles, Bayley, The New Day, Cesaro, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Ricochet, among others, plus an appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.

“We love the passion and support from the huge WWE Universe in India, so we’ve teamed up with SPN, the exclusive home of WWE in India, to surprise our fans with an incredible event to kick off 2021,” said Triple H in the official announcement. “WWE Superstar Spectacle will be an epic event with electrifying matches featuring some of the biggest names in WWE along with our incredible Indian performers, plus thrilling and authentic Indian-inspired entertainment.”

WWE and Sony Pictures Network India announce WWE Superstar Spectacle

WWE Superstar Spectacle, an unprecedented two-hour television special event for India featuring WWE’s Indian performers alongside Superstars from Raw, SmackDown and NXT, will premiere exclusively on Sony Ten 1, Sony Ten 3 and Sony MAX on India’s Republic Day, Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 8 p.m. IST, with commentary available in both English and Hindi.

The unique showcase of Indian-inspired action will emanate from the state-of-the-art WWE ThunderDome and incorporate stunning elements of traditional and contemporary Indian culture among epic matches featuring WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, Rey Mysterio, WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Charlotte Flair, AJ Styles, Bayley, The New Day, Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro, SmackDown Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode, Ricochet and many more plus an appearance by WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.

With matches announced in the coming weeks, WWE fans can look forward to witnessing appearances by 10 Indian WWE talent, including:

* WWE Superstar Jinder Mahal, the first WWE Champion of Indian descent.

* The Bollywood Boyz, WWE Superstars Samir and Sunil Singh.

* The first all-Indian tag team in WWE, Indus Sher, featuring Rinku and Saurav.

NXT Superstar Jeet Rama.

* Kavita Devi, the first Indian woman to sign a WWE contract.

* The Great Khali trainees Giant Zanjeer (7ft 2in, 340 pounds) and Dilsher Shanky (7ft, 310 pounds).

* Guru Raaj, the first Indian-born high-flyer in WWE.

The arrival of WWE Superstar Spectacle comes at a time when WWE’s popularity in India continues to increase. WWE is one of the most-watched sports properties in India, and India ranks No. 1 for WWE YouTube consumption and No. 1 in WWE Facebook followers. In addition, WWE has been actively recruiting elite athletes and performers from the country. In 2019, WWE hosted its largest tryout in history, where more than 70 top athletes from India showcased their abilities in Mumbai and four Indian recruits were selected to train at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, U.S.

Jinder Mahal Out Of Action Again After Knee Surgery

WWE RAW Superstar Jinder Mahal is back on the shelf again.

Mahal revealed on Instagram this morning that he had to undergo another knee operation. The surgery was a success and he says he will be back stronger than ever.

“Unfortunately I had to go under the knife again to fix some knee issues. The journey has hit a speed bump, but I will be back stronger than ever,” Mahal wrote in the IG post seen below, which was tagged in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mahal just returned to the ring in late April after being out of action for almost a year with a knee injury. He looked dominant in his return match on RAW against Akira Tozawa and appeared to be getting a big push.

There’s no word yet on when he will return.

Jinder Mahal Undergoes Knee Surgery

Jinder Mahal revealed on Instagram today that he just underwent knee surgery at Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama.

Mahal noted that he ruptured his patella tendon on Saturday, June 15 at the WWE live event in Denver, Colorado. He lost to Ali that night. There’s no word yet on when Mahal will be back in action on the SmackDown brand, but he noted that surgery went well and his knee is better than expected.

“On the mend. Ruptured my Patella Tendon in Denver Colorado June 15 in a match against @aliwwe . Happy to say surgery went well, and my knee was better than expected. This comeback is going to be legendary,” he wrote.

Mahal recently signed a new five-year deal with WWE.

Jinder Mahal Signs New Multi-Year WWE Contract

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Jinder Mahal recently inked a new WWE contract. Multiple sources confirm his new deal is 5-years in length.

Jinder made his return to WWE in 2016 after being gone from the company for 2 years. He went on to win the WWE title in 2017, the first of Indian descent to do so, and held onto the belt for 170 days.

As of late, he’s been involved in the 24/7 Championship scene with R-Truth and others.

Mojo Rawley, Mike Kannellis and Maria Kannellis also recently signed new multi-year WWE contracts.

 

R-Truth Very Briefly Loses WWE 24/7 Title On Golf Course

While WWE 24/7 Champion R-Truth was relaxing on a golf course with Carmella on Sunday, Jinder Mahal ambushed R-Truth and very briefly won the 24/7 title before R-Truth quickly won it back and made his escape with Carmella in their golf cart.

After Monday’s episode of WWE RAW went off the air on the USA Network, the action continued inside the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

In a post-show segment, Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers came out and danced around WWE Hall Of Famers Sting, Shawn Michaels, Kurt Angle and Ricky Steamboat until Angle and HBK took out the trio with a super kick and some cake.

Jinder Mahal Visited Children At Kentucky Children’s Hospital

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT)- Patients at Kentucky Children’s Hospital got a special visitor on Tuesday.

With WWE in town preparing for Smackdown Live at Rupp Arena, WWE Superstar Jinder Mahal stopped at Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

Kids were able to ask the superstar questions and snag some pictures with the professional wrestler.

Mahal says his job isn’t just in the ring.

“The most important thing that we do is that we put smiles on children’s faces, we make people happy, we’re here to entertain people, and a lot of these kids are huge fans, and we come here to see them in person and cheer them up and make their day. As simple as it is for us to just come here and taking pictures with kids or saying hello or talking to them, it makes their day.”

AJ Styles Wins WWE Championship On SmackDown Live (Video & Photos)

AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal to become the new WWE Champion on last night’s SmackDown Live from Manchester, England. This was the first time that the WWE Title has changed hands outside of North America.

Styles is now a two-time WWE Champion. Jinder won the title back on May 21st at WWE Backlash by defeating Randy Orton.

AJ will now face WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at the November 19th Survivor Series pay-per-view.

Randy Orton And Jinder Mahal To Battle For WWE Title In A Punjabi Prison Match At Battleground

The last Punjabi Prison match was about 10 years ago, but that’s about to change, because the brutal structure is coming back at the SmackDown Live exclusive pay-per-view WWE Battleground.

The announcement happened on SmackDown Live last night when Orton refused to leave the ring until he was granted a title match, causing Shane McMahon to come out from the back.

The SD Live Commissioner granted the rematch, but said Jinder was allowed to pick the stipulation.

The WWE Champion then made his entrance and announced that he and Randy would face each other in a Punjabi Prison match next month.

 

Former WWE Superstar Returning For The RAW Brand Soon, Update On Other Names Rumored To Return

Former WWE Superstar Jinder Mahal has signed a new deal to return to the company, according to PWInsider. No word yet on when he will be back but he is returning for the RAW brand.

As noted, former WWE star Curt Hawkins (Brian Myers) will also be returning soon. He’s set to work the SmackDown brand.

WWE just announced on SmackDown last night that Shelton Benjamin will be returning to SmackDown soon and Rhyno made his re-debut on the brand. Several other former WWE stars, including Melina, Tommy Dreamer, MVP and Carlito, have been talked about returning internally or have been contacted. We’ll keep you updated on other potential returns.
