“The King” spoke to Memphis’ FOX13 by phone about the tragic events of this past weekend. He says he can take comfort in the fact he held his son’s hand when his heart stopped beating.

Lawler said he was in North Carolina when he learned about the hanging incident. On Monday, it was revealed Christopher was in solitary confident due to his “notoriety.” After making the discovery, the jail employees performed CPR and paramedics then flew him to Regional One hospital.

Lawler rushed back to town early Sunday to be with his son.  Christopher died later that afternoon.

Jerry says the family is appreciative of all the people who’ve reached out since Brian’s passing.

In regards to the death investigation being conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Lawler said there’s “more than this than meets the eye.” He told FOX13 he couldn’t elaborate until the police investigation was complete.

The visitation and funeral service will be held Friday at Memphis’ Hope Church. Visitation will be at noon, and the service will take place at 2 p.m.

Jerry Lawler Wanted To Help Brian Christopher Get A Job At WWE Performance Center

Brian Christopher’s father, Jerry “The King” Lawler tried on several occasions to help his son and had plans of getting him into a drug rehab before the time of his death. He also encouraged his son to stay clean in hopes of assisting him to land a possible job with WWE.

Dave Meltzer spoke about Christopher during Wrestling Observer Radio where he said Lawler hinted at helping his son get a job at the WWE Performance Center if he could stay sober long enough.

“Jerry had told [Christoper] many times that if you can clean yourself up for a year I’ll get you a job,” Meltzer said. “You know whether it’s a trainer at the Performance Center which is kind of like what he was hinting or something, but ‘you’ve got to clean yourself up for a year.’ There would be periods where he would get clean to a degree, but it never lasted a year. I know one of his friends told me a couple of months and another one said that you know, his version of clean — the ‘wrestler version of clean’ is that he was on methadone and things like that.”

Jerry Lawler doesn’t drink or use drugs which is a path his son Brian did not choose for himself. He battled addiction for years and it was a catalyst for his downfall. Meltzer revealed he was told by someone close to the situation that Christopher also had a previous suicide attempt years ago.

“I think there was a suicide attempt before that not too many people know of, I didn’t even know of until today, three or four years ago,” Meltzer said.

Brian Christopher was pulled over at 1:00 am on July 7th after police observed he was swerving and speeding. The former WWE Tag Team Champion was booked for DUI and evading arrest before being held on a $40,000 bond. Lawler was found in his jail cell on July 29th after he hung himself and following being rushed to the hospital, he was kept on life support until he was pronounced dead at 4:40 pm EST.

Jerry “The King” Lawler Talks Recovery Following Stroke Last Month

Jerry Lawler

WMC Action News 5 is featuring an interview with Jerry Lawler where he talks about the stroke he suffered last month just a few weeks before WrestleMania 34.

Lawler went into detail about his fiancée Lauryn first noticing the symptoms.

“The right side of my mouth was drooped all the way down and I turned to talk and I couldn’t say anything.  Lauryn screamed, ‘oh my, God, you’re having a stroke’. I couldn’t talk. They would come and ask me questions, like who’s the president?  Of course, I knew the answer, but I couldn’t say it.”

As reported earlier this week, Lawler revealed the news about the stroke on his podcast and how the only other people that knew were WWE’s Kevin Dunn and Triple H.

He admitted to Action News 5 that he is very lucky.

“I realize I was really lucky. I’ve always felt blessed. I feel like it didn’t even happen. I don’t feel any different.  My speech and my memory are fine.  So yeah, I’m blessed.”

WWE.com also recapped Lawler’s comments about the situation on his podcast.

“It was a pretty scary situation. When they got me back from the CAT scan, they informed me, too, that where the blood was bleeding out was on the cognitive part of my brain, which controls your speech and part of your memory, so at this time, I really couldn’t say anything.”

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler revealed on his “Dinner With The King” podcast that he and fellow Hall of Famer Jim Ross will likely be reuniting to call some of the action at WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble event on Friday, April 27th from King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

As noted, this event will air on the WWE Network. Lawler revealed that it will also air live on TV in Saudi Arabia. Tickets will go on sale for the event on Saturday, March 31st and WWE is set to confirm full broadcast details soon.

“I’m going over there [to Saudi Arabia],” Lawler said. “There’s a good possibility me and JR will be doing some commentary on it.”

We’ve noted how the event in Saudi Arabia will feature a 50-Superstar Royal Rumble match. Superstars announced for the event include Triple H, Roman Reigns, John Cena, WWE Champion AJ Styles, WWE United States Champion Randy Orton, Braun Strowman, The New Day, Shinsuke Nakamura and Bray Wyatt. WWE noted to us that Superstars advertised are not necessarily confirmed to participate in the 50-man Rumble.

WWE announced this week that there will be 7 title matches on the show with the following titles up for grabs – the WWE Title, the WWE Universal Title, the WWE Intercontinental Title, the WWE United States Title, the WWE Cruiserweight Title, the RAW Tag Team Titles and the SmackDown Tag Team Titles. It looks like there will be no female Superstars on the card as WWE did not list the RAW Women’s Title or the SmackDown Women’s Title as being on the line.

Lawler also teased that he will be a participant in the Rumble match that takes place that night. It will be interesting to see if any other Legends are used in the match as WWE is looking to make the event a huge success.

“There’s a good possibility that my music will be playing,” Lawler said.

When it was noted that he was on WWE’s “no-touch list,” Lawler replied, “Well, maybe we can get me off that no-touch list for the world’s biggest Royal Rumble, that would be great. Then I’ll know I’ve made it in wrestling (laughs).”

Jerry Lawler Sounds Off On Sexual Assault Allegations, PC Culture And Female Wrestler Equality (Audio)

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler has some polarizing opinions on old sexual assault allegations being brought to light, PC culture and female wrestlers being treated the same as men.

On a recent episode of Dinner With The King, Lawler was asked if he thought there’d be any scandals coming out of pro wrestling following the recent wave of sexual assault allegations in Hollywood.

Jerry replied, “It appears that eventually anybody that’s ever flirted with anybody, or had any kind of sexual contact with anybody, is all of a sudden you could potentially be a target in the future.”

King’s co-host pushed his original question further and re-iterated that he was talking about serious accusations — like someone waking up to a sex act unwillingly being performed on them — to which Lawler started laughing. He then attempted to compare that to male wrestlers pranking each other by taking photos of their genitals next to a sleeping friend’s face.

“At the time, you’re thinking ‘this is totally harmless.’ But then all of a sudden, 15-years-later, that photograph shows up somewhere … it’s gonna offend somebody. That’s the way the country has become. Everything 99% of the people may think is done in jest, or whatever, and all of a sudden that 1% out there is gonna be offended by it. And that 1% can speak up as loudly as the other 99% cannot.”

Glenn Moore, the show’s co-host, once agains tries to explain his question and says he’s talking about someone using their authoritative position to entice someone into doing something sexually against their will. King finally responds saying he’s never heard of that happening.

Lawler then goes on a rant about not being able to say Attitude Era-like quips on commentary anymore, Bra & Panties matches being the highlight of the shows back in the day and how “we’ve gone so far now” that they have to treat women “the same as the men” by not calling them Divas.
