There Are Some Interesting New Names Coming To Global Force Wrestling

Global Force Wrestling is dealing with a lot right now. They’re having to scramble and weather the storm of the latest Alberto El Patron incident, and there’s still the Broken Hardys legal kerfuffle to sort out. But the show must continue going ever onward, and part of the plan for the under-new-ownership-and-also-a-new-name GFW is to once again start doing touring live events.

They’re going to need some star power to draw on the road, of course, and the company is already hard at work trying to sign Rey Mysterio to a contract, so he can begin appearing on GFW television and events when his Lucha Underground deal is up. He’s not the only name they’re bringing in, of course. Indie favorites like ACH have already begun appearing on GFW Impact, and it looks like there are more well-known wrestlers lined up to cross the line. (That’s probably not still a thing.)

During a media conference call on Wednesday, it was announced that John Morrison, AKA Johnny Mundo or John Hennigan, will be appearing at GFW’s live events in the New York area. These appearances were likely set up via the new working partnership between AAA and GFW, although given what’s happening between AAA and Morrison’s fiancee, Taya Valkyrie, who knows how long he’ll be working with either company. Morrison has been confirmed to appear on the card for GFW’s live events on August 4-6, in Long Island, Staten Island, and Bridgeport, CT, respectively.

Also joining the fray are oVe (Jake and Dave Crist), who have wrestled in Ring of Honor, PWG, CZW, and many other promotions originally as Irish Airborne and currently as OI4K (Ohio Is 4 Killers). The Crists have seen a marked increase in popularity and bookings over the past couple of years, particularly Dave, as he has become known for his insane cutters.

Jeremy Borash confirmed on the call that the Crists will be coming in soon (meaning they will be part of GFW television and not just the upcoming live events), and will have new names in Global Force. So get ready, because soon you’ll be forced to answer questions about what Jax and Dax Cusp are doing in the Impact Zone.

Davey Richards Confirms GFW Departure

Former five-time TNA World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards revealed on Twitter that he has left GFW.

“Today I came to terms with GFW for me release,” Richards wrote. “This story however is a happy one. I have nothing but good memories and great things to say about my time there.”

Matt Morgan revealed on last night’s post-Battleground edition of the Wrestling Inc. podcast that he had also recently requested his release from GFW, while Nick “Magnus” Aldis confirmed his departure from the promotion last week. Richards noted that he was leaving pro wrestling to concentrate on medical school.

“Truth is- I love wrestling,” Richards stated. “But my goal is to be a Doctor. I have managed my time in doing both my school, my job as a Paramedic, being a dad, and a wrestler as best I could for as long as I could. But the demands as I head into the last couple years of Medical School have brought me to a point where I have to choose one or another. So with GFW’s blessing I have chosen medical school.”

Richards had talked about leaving pro wrestling in 2010 to move on to other things, but changed his mind. He is married to fellow GFW star Angelina Love.

Matt Morgan Done With GFW

Matt Morgan is finished with Global Force Wrestling after requesting his release from the company. Morgan explained his situation on the latest episode of the Wrestling Inc. Podcast

“Here’s the deal,” said Morgan. “I made an agreement to wrestle with them on weekends, right? Where I didn’t have to leave my 9-5 job, anything like that. And unfortunately it just didn’t work out because they switched it and they started taping on week days and they’re looking to travel.”

“So when I first talking to Jeff [Jarrett] about this, the idea was you know, you guys are 20 minutes from my house, you guys are there on the weekends. As long as you guys are there on the weekends I can do this.”

Morgan, who worked for TNA Wrestling from 2007-2013 and again in 2015, went on to explain he couldn’t let anything get in the way of his 9-5 job. He wanted to come back and help the company that was good to him at one point. Unfortunately, it just didn’t work out as Morgan believes GFW needs to travel to be successful.

As noted, Nick “Magnus” Aldis revealed last week that he was also done with GFW.

Magnus Already Done With GFW

Former TNA World Champion Magnus is no longer with Global Force Wrestling, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

The report states Magnus, whose real name is Nick Aldis, turned down GFW’s latest contract offer. He reportedly worked the most-recent television tapings in Orlando, Florida under a handshake deal so the company could “protect the lineage of the GFW title,” which he lost to Alberto El Patron.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that most of the new contracts GFW has signed with talent gives them ten percent of the independent date money the talent makes. In addition, it’s reported talent doesn’t get a cut of merchandise sold with their likeness if it’s sold directly by GFW.

Magnus first signed with TNA Wrestling in 2008. In 2015, he was one of the first talents Global Force Wrestling announced they had signed and that he was going to work under his real name. This was obviously before the merger between TNA and GFW.

In addition to being a one-time TNA World Champion and one-time GFW Global Champion, Magnus has had success internationally, holding titles in New Japan Pro Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Noah. When TNA did their partnership with Ring Ka King in India, Magnus held their world title.

Gail Kim’s New Role In GFW Revealed, Two New Female Signings Teased

Jeremy Borash did a media conference call on Wednesday, where he revealed Gail Kim will be transitioning to a behind the scenes role in Global Force Wrestling.

“This may be known but we are happy to have on board as an agent for Impact Wrestling, who will be helping with our Knockouts, Gail Kim. Who announced that she would be retiring at the end of this year,” said Borash.

“So she’s going to be taking on a more behind-the-scenes role. Everybody may not know but Gail and I had a very strong friendship for the last decade,” JB continued. “I obviously do stuff with her husband Robert Irvine, the chef. And she has an incredible mind and really somebody that’s going to take the Knockouts to the next level. So she’s in Orlando and Tampa training gals that you’re seeing.”

Borash also teased that GFW have signed two new girls that are known but did not reveal any further details.

JB noted that this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling will open with a fantastic Super X-Cup Match. He said this week’s show “kicks ass” and we’re really seeing an evolution of talent, guys that can really go in the ring.

Rey Mysterio Reportedly Has Contract Offer ‘In His Hands’ From GFW

Rey Mysterio was in Nashville, TN on Monday night to visit with his WWE friends who were in town for RAW, according to PWInsider.

According to the report, Mysterio met with Global Force Wrestling officials earlier in the day to discuss a deal that would bring him to Global Force Wrestling. Exact details of the meeting were not immediately available but PWInsider reported that Mysterio “has a contract offer in his hands.” Mysterio was in town with his long-time friend Konnan.

As noted, Mysterio is under contract with Lucha Underground through the end of season three, which will air in September. He’ll be a free agent after that but has a 90-day non-compete agreement attached to his deal.

Sports Illustrated first reported GFW’s interest in Mysterio, also noting WWE was hoping to bring him back.

Mysterio, 42, left WWE in February 2015 and has worked for AAA in Mexico, on the independent circuit, in addition to his work with Lucha Underground. His son, Dominick, is also focusing on a career in professional wrestling.

Karen Jarrett, who of course is Jeff’s wife and an executive consultant for GFW, posted this photo of Mysterio to her Instagram account on Tuesday.
