WWE Extreme Rules 10/8/2022 (Results), Bray Wyatt Returns

  • Six-Man Tag Team Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook Match: The Brawling Brutes defeated Imperium by pinfall.
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship Extreme Rules Match: Ronda Rousey defeated Liv Morgan (c) by submission to win the title.

  • Raw Women’s Championship Ladder Match: Bianca Belair (c) defeated Bayley
  • I Quit Match: Finn Balor defeated Edge

The lights went out and Michael Cole was asking if they’re still on the air. All the fireflies light up their phones as “He’s got the whole world in his hands” starts playing. A few people in the crowd are given a spotlight, dressed up as Huskus the Pig Boy, Mercy the Buzzard, Rambling Rabbit, and Abbey the Witch are shown. The Fiend is shown, too. All the Firefly Fun House puppets are shown covered in cobwebs and such. A masked person pops up on the screen and mumbles something. Finally, Bray Wyatt appeared in a new mask with a lantern in his hands. Before the show ended, Wyatt took the mask off, blew out the lantern, and said, “I’m here.” A new logo pops up on the screen resembling the Silence of the Lambs iconography.

Following the pay-per-view event, Wyatt continued his return, and hyped up the live audience in Philadelphia, PA.

After walking up to fans on both sides of the entrance stage, the former Universal Champion made his way backstage.

White Rabbit reveal – expected to be Bray Wyatt

WWE’s White Rabbit Reveal Expected To Happen At Extreme Rules

WWE’s White Rabbit teasers have been a pretty big success. Wrestling fans have been hypothesizing who exactly the clues are pointing to, and while it seems likely they are pointing to Bray Wyatt, there are a few other names out in the ether. Even a clue hinting it might be Malakai Black has been discovered, although that seems very unlikely considering his current status.

The clues have taken the form of videos, QR codes, and even flyers on fans’ cars outside WWE shows. What fans want to know is when exactly these teasers are going to amount to something. The initial implication was that whoever the White Rabbit is would be revealed on the September 23 episode of SmackDown. That didn’t happen, and now all eyes are on Extreme Rules.

That’s following a new report from Fightful Select (via WrestlingHeadlines). Apparently the idea was met with doubt from some backstage at first, but now everyone is on board due to its popularity and execution. The internal belief is the reveal will happen at Extreme Rules, but how exactly that will happen and whether they will actually be there remains unclear.

There’s also the potential for plans to change as well, of course. Even without Vince McMahon running the show, there’s always a chance that things might change whether it be due to an injury, or simply a change in the direction of the booking. Extreme Rules does seem like the most likely place for a reveal though, especially after fireflies and a lantern were spotted in some of the event’s artwork.

More indicators that the White Rabbit is Wyatt, and it has almost reached a point where the former WWE Champion is so expected that there might be backlash if it isn’t him. Wyatt left WWE during the summer of 2021 and hasn’t popped up anywhere else since. Perhaps he just needed some time off and we’re now a little more than a week away from what will be a pretty big return.

Fans Criticize Bizarre Finish To WWE Extreme Rules Main Event, Roman Reigns & Others React

The unusual ending to last night’s WWE Extreme Rules main event has been met with a lot of criticism from fans.

Towards the closing stages of the match, “The Demon” Finn Balor dispatched of both of The Usos only to be speared through the ringside barricade by WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. Suddenly, the lights went red and an unconscious Balor miraculously got back to his feet while reacting to the heartbeats from his entrance music.

With the red lights turned on, Balor blasted Reigns with a chair and sent The Tribal Chief through a table with a dropkick. Moments later, Balor prepared to launch for the Coup de Grace, but fell to the mat after the top turnbuckle of the entire ring collapsed abruptly. Balor then sold a knee injury and struggled to get back to his feet, giving Reigns enough time to hit a Spear and retain his Universal Championship.

Although fans have been flooding Twitter with negative messages about the finish, RAW Superstar Drew Gulak made light of the situation by reminding everyone of his PowerPoint presentation. Gulak tweeted:

And the moral of that story was: If you are about to win your match DO NOT CLIMB TO THE TOP ROPE! Thank you for coming to my PowerPoint presentation! #ExtremeRules

Meanwhile, Reigns tweeted his post-match reaction: “Above all else. #ExtremeRules.”

“The Demon” has now suffered his first-ever loss on the main roster. Balor’s alter ego previously lost to Samoa Joe during their time in NXT in 2016.

Roman Reigns (c) defeated “The Demon” Finn Balor

Balor up to the top, coup de grace hits, cover, and The Usos pull him off. Usos attack him on the floor, double superkick and they bring out another table.

Table set up on the floor. They look to put him through it, but he fights back. Sends one into the barricade and slingblade on the other. Balor powerbombs Jey through the announce table. Balor turns around and Reigns sends him crashing through the barricade near the timekeeper’s table. That whole thing came down in awesome fashion. Suddenly, we hear a hearbeat. Red lights are flashing as Balor flops around. He finally gets up and screams as we hear a part of his music. The red lights stay on as he blasts Reigns with a chair.

He then hits a running dropkick that sends Reigns through that table on the floor. Balor’s music is just playing on. Smoke coming up from around the ring. Balor climbs up to the top rope and the top rope just collapses out of nowhere?! The red lights go off. Balor holding his knee and trying to get up. Reigns with a spear, cover, 1-2-3.

Post-match, Reigns and Heyman seem a bit confused with what happened with the ropes, but celebrates nonetheless. Reigns makes his way to the back saying he’s still the head of the table.

Backstage News On Apollo Crews Missing WWE Extreme Rules

The scheduled title match between WWE United States Champion Apollo Crews and MVP did not take place during last night’s “The Horror Show at Extreme Rules” pay-per-view.

WWE announcer Tom Phillips noted that Crews was at the Performance Center earlier in the day, eager to compete, but he did not pass his pre-match physical. It was also said that Crews has a bulging disc in his back, from the recent Full Nelson attack by Bobby Lashley.

In an update, Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports that Apollo’s absence is due to issues related to COVID-19. It was noted that Crews will need to be re-examined again before tonight’s RAW.

There was a brief segment during last night’s show that saw Lashley and MVP come to the ring to joke about Crews being hurt. MVP then declared that he is the new champion by forfeit. He retrieved the title from ringside as the new belt was on display, but there was no official announcement made about a title change.

Apollo Crews won his first WWE United States Championship on the May 25, 2020 edition of RAW, defeating the previous champion, Andrade. After five years with the company, it is Apollo’s first championship.

Bayley rips the referee’s t-shirt off and puts it on, sending him to the floor. Banks covers Asuka and Bayley covers for the 3 count. Bayley yells for the timekeeper to ring the bell. Wyatt Swamp Fight(Non-Title): WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman vs. Bray Wyatt

It’s time for the first-ever Wyatt Swamp Fight, which will be our non-title main event for the night. WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman drives his big truck up to Bray Wyatt’s home in the swamp. Wyatt is sitting on the front porch in his rocking chair, all smiles and laughs.

Braun approaches and says he’s home. Wyatt, still sitting down, just laughs. We go to black for a second and come back to just Strowman. Wyatt’s chair is moving but he’s not there. Strowman sees a sign on a tree that warns anyone who enters. Strowman smashes the rocking chair against a tree and we hear Wyatt’s laughs in the distance.

We hear some pigs squealing as Strowman apparently has flashbacks. He fights off a mystery masked attacker. Strowman yells out for Wyatt to show his damn face. A shovel hits Strowman in the back and he goes down. Strowman looks terrified as he sees himself standing above him, wearing the black sheep mask and holding the shovel. Strowman looks up from the ground as the other Strowman smashes him in the face with a shovel. Strowman comes to and he’s chained up in the house now for more wackiness. We see the swamp version of Wyatt walking outside, lantern in hand, as his music plays in the background. Wyatt walks into the room where Strowman is chained to a chair. Wyatt laughs and welcomes Strowman home, asking what he thinks about Wyatt’s changes to the house. Strowman says he hates Wyatt. Wyatt taunts Strowman while he’s chained to the chair. Wyatt plays some mind games and grabs Strowman, yelling at him that he is not Strowman’s enemy. Wyatt goes on about how people have invaded and turned against them, but they can come together and be the ones standing after everyone else falls, after governments and the rest of the world fall. Strowman says he’s sending Wyatt straight back to hell.

Wyatt goes on with the cryptic talk, saying Strowman is the weapon and he is the hand that controls it. Wyatt has to destroy the monster Strowman has become. Strowman doesn’t care what happens, he will never go back to doing Wyatt’s dirty work. A woman appears with a snake now. Wyatt tells Strowman not to be afraid. This mystery woman could be Sister Abigail? The snake attacks Strowman. He comes to and now he’s outside near a fire. He’s fighting off mystery men in black, including one very average looking guy swinging an axe. Wyatt takes it and beats the man down. The man catches fire and runs around as Strowman laughs.

We hear a woman’s voice, telling Strowman to come home. It’s Alexa Bliss in black, with a hood over her head. She’s telling Strowman that he’s always wanted to be with her, this can be their home together if he just comes home. Strowman approaches the image of Bliss but Wyatt attacks him from it. Strowman apparently gets the upperhand and knocks Wyatt into a small white boat. The boat starts riding out into a lake with Wyatt laid out in it. Strowman smiles and walks away from the lake. He stops and looks back at the boat, confused. The boat is now coming back to the dock. Strowman walks out into the water, up to his waist. He goes to the boat and it’s empty. No Wyatt.

Wyatt comes from the side and drops Strowman with a shovel to the head. They brawl in the water with Wyatt beating Strowman and holding him down, as we see flashes of alligators. Strowman eventually pulls himself up to the dock, struggling to breathe. He’s laying on the dock now as a female voice laughs. Wyatt attacks on the dock. Strowman fights back but Wyatt beats him down with some sort of stick. Wyatt screams out. Wyatt says look what you made me do. Strowman gets up as Wyatt has his back turned. Wyatt turns around and laughs at him. Wyatt tries to swing the stick but Strowman knocks him into the water.

Strowman kneels down at the water and apparently doesn’t see Wyatt. Strowman nods and says it’s over. He keeps looking around the surface of the water until Wyatt’s arm comes up from out of the water, applying the Mandible Claw to pull Strowman into the water. There’s a struggle. It looks like Wyatt comes back up out of the water for a second, struggling to breathe or get out. Wyatt is pulled back under and all is calm. The water then turns blood red and starts bubbling. The Fiend returns, coming out of the water and staring straight at the camera now. We hear Wyatt laughing in the background. WWE’s “The Horror Show at Extreme Rules” pay-per-view goes off the air as The Fiend growls, “Let me in!”
