Adam Copeland’s AEW Entrance Theme Features A Familiar Voice

When former WWE star Adam Copeland (previously known as Edge) made his AEW debut on Sunday night, he did so with a familiar entrance theme — “Metalingus,” a song by the band Alterbridge. The brief opening cue to Edge’s music, which predates the use of the song itself, used to be the voice of a woman saying the line, “You think you know me.” While that was recorded and owned by WWE, there was nothing stopping Copeland from recording a new version of the intro, and according to journalist Chris Mueller, Copeland has confirmed fan suspicion that he and his wife, WWE star Beth Phoenix, recorded the new intro themselves.

Rather than copy the original intro exactly, the new introduction includes a slight variation, with the phrasing changed to, “You think you know him.” Some AEW viewers with keen ears were able to detect Phoenix’s voice before the news was confirmed. While it seems that Phoenix won’t be joining her husband physically in AEW for the time being, she will at least have a presence in his onscreen presentation each time he comes out to the ring.

During the media scrum that followed AEW WrestleDream on Sunday, Copeland discussed his reasons for leaving WWE and heading to AEW, stating that he had simply grown apart from the company and wasn’t interested in what they had planned for him creatively. The former WWE Champion also detailed his experience going out to film his intro vignette with Darby Allin a few nights prior, stating that they traveled through some questionable parts of Seattle and, at points, had people hanging out of vehicle windows to capture shots.

Adam Copeland (Edge) Makes AEW Debut At WrestleDream

During Sunday night’s AEW WrestleDream 2023 pay-per-view event, Christian Cage defeated Darby Allin in a two out of three falls match to retain the TNT Championship in the main event of the show.

A heel turn from Nick Wayne allowed Cage to bury Allin and hold onto his title.

Following the match, Cage and Wayne mercilessly assaulted Allin which caused Sting to come out for the save.

However, the addition of Luchasaurus to the equation meant that the numbers game eventually took over and Sting met the same fate as Allin.

Cage went for a couple of chairs to deliver a ConChairTo, which led to a vignette of a car driving to the Climate Pledge Arena.

Edge stepped out of the vehicle and made his way into the ring with his classic Alter Bridge “Metalingus” theme buzzing the arena.

Edge stared off with Christian and held his hand out. The heel TNT Champion handed him the chair and asked him to deliver the ConChairTo.

Using the steel weapon and his signature spear, Edge laid out Wayne and Luchasaurus in the middle of the ring. Cage bailed out in fear and shock.

The announcers then referred to the WWE Hall of Famer by his real name, Adam Copeland. Taz also referenced him as “The Rated R Superstar.”

AEW President Tony Khan then announced on Twitter that Copeland is #AllElite.

Edge Addresses Rumors Of Troubled Contract Negotiations With WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has shared a video on his X account in which he addresses some of the rumors pertaining to his current WWE contract situation. It was recently reported that both parties had reached a stalemate in regard to an extension, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. According to the veteran, there are no hard feelings between him and WWE, and he still loves the promotion, describing it as the “dream cake.”

“I didn’t come at them with some crazy contract or anything. They didn’t deny me. I have a contract extension sitting in my inbox. I just don’t know what to do. The first time I had to retire, it was forced. This time, the choice is in my lap and it’s a lot harder.

Edge went on to say that his match against Sheamus on last week’s episode of “WWE SmackDown” is the highlight of his career. He described it as a special night and he doesn’t know if he’ll ever be able to top it, so he needs time to process the experience and think about his next move.

There have also been rumors of Edge joining AEW after his current WWE contract expires. He didn’t mention Tony Khan’s promotion in the video, but he did share some news about his future plans.

“Just know that whatever it is that I do, whether it’s Percy Jackson — which is coming up soon — or it’s wrestling or it’s sitting in my rocking chair, it’s because I’m having fun. And having fun at this stage of my life and raising my kids are the two most important things. So I hope that clears stuff up.”

Edge To WWE SmackDown Crowd In Toronto: ‘This Is My Last Time In Front Of Y’all’

WWE fans still don’t have a concrete answer as to whether the “Rated R Superstar” is officially retired from the company, but Edge cut a promo to the “WWE SmackDown” live crowd after the broadcast went off the air following his match with Sheamus — a match many believe could be the star’s final match with the company — shedding at least a little bit of light on the situation.

In a video posted to  Twitter by a user named Dylan Melanson, Edge is seen speaking in the middle of the ring following his victory. “What I can say, is this is my last time in front of y’all,” he said, to a chorus of boos from his hometown crowd of Toronto. “I don’t think I could make it a full… to get here again for another match. I’m just being honest with you.”

Edge also instructed the crowd to “not let that be a downer,” because the fans gave him an amazing experience. He said he will never forget it.

“And when I’m 84-years-old and don’t remember much, you’re damn sure I’m going to remember this,” he said before thanking the crowd and walking out of the ring to his theme music.

Later, WWE’s official Twitter account would post a snippet of the speech, in which Edge says he doesn’t know what the future holds and needs to ask his family, who were sitting ringside, what they want him to do.

Before the match, Edge addressed the retirement rumors, saying “SmackDown” was the final match on his current WWE deal. As of this writing, neither the star nor WWE have commented on any official retirement.

WWE SmackDown Preview 8/18/2023 – 25 Years Of Edge Celebration – Edge Retiring?

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown Live on FOX from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, ON.

Tonight’s episode of “WWE SmackDown” might be Edge’s final match in the company he’s been part of since 1998. “The Rated R Superstar” claims that he doesn’t know if it’ll be his last outing.

According to the “Wrestling Observer Newsletter,” Edge’s trainer and friend, Ron Hutchison, reportedly claimed that the WWE Hall of Famer is pretty sure that he’ll hang up his boots after “SmackDown.” Edge hasn’t expressed this viewpoint publicly in the lead-up to the show, but he has given fans some information about where his mind is at.

Earlier this week, Edge addressed the retirement rumors by admitting that it’s the last match he’s contracted to compete in, and the fact it’s taking place in Toronto, Canada has led to speculation that it’ll be his farewell bout. However, while he admits that wrestling has become difficult for him, he’s still torn about retiring. WWE hasn’t advertised the match as Edge’s retirement either, presumably because the Superstar still doesn’t know if he’s going to hang up his boots when it’s all said and done.

The “Wrestling Observer Newsletter” report notes that Edge signed a three-year deal when he returned to WWE in 2020. However, that contract was supposed to have expired months ago, but it’s possible that he signed an extension. While Edge has openly stated that tonight’s bout is the last match on his current contract, it’s currently unknown if that means he’ll become a free agent afterward. WWE signs lots of retired Superstars to Legends deals, after all.

Edge Joins The Cast Of Disney+ Series

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has been signed to co-star in the Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”

According to a report in Variety, Edge — who will be appearing under his real name, Adam Copeland — has been cast as Ares, the God of War, a recurring guest star spot. Disney+ described the character as “handsome in a wicked way and arrogant, despite not always being the sharpest tool in the shed. He loves conflict and acts as an agent of chaos wherever he goes.”

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is based on the popular young adult novels by Rick Riordan and follows the adventures of a 12-year-old modern demigod who is erroneously accused by the sky god Zeus of stealing his master lightning bolt. The youth and two of his friends embark on an odyssey to locate the lightning bolt and restore it to Zeus’ authority.

In addition to Edge, the series’ guest star line-up includes Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, and Megan Mullally. Production is currently underway in Vancouver for the eight-episode first season, which is scheduled to premiere in 2024.

Outside of wrestling, Edge has enjoyed a lengthy and varied entertainment career, beginning with a small role as a bandit in the 2000 film “Highlander: Endgame.” He had starring roles in the films “Bending the Rules” (2012), “Interrogation” (2016), and “Money Plane” (2020), and he has been active in his native Canada with roles on the television series “Haven” and “Vikings,” as well as appearances as himself in the bibliophile-focused “Canada Reads.”

Edge Tells WWE Raw Crowd He Intends To Retire Next Year In Toronto

Edge spoke to the live crowd in Toronto after Raw went off the air and said he intends to retire there next year.

Edge had a big night in Toronto, Canada on Monday. He was advertised well in advance for the show — one that was over a decade in the making — and he secured a big win over Damian Priest in the main event before his wife, Beth Phoenix helped him out against Judgment Day to close the show. While that’s what the television audience saw, there was more to the night for the live fans in attendance.

As seen in a video posted by WrestleOps, after Raw went off the air, Edge grabbed the microphone and he spoke to the fans in attendance. Toronto is Edge’s hometown and he let them know how much he appreciated them, was glad to be back, and he thanked the fans for their support. He then talked about how he grew from being a fan in this building to wrestling in front of a crowd in the same arena. He added that his intention was to retire in front of the same fans a year from now.

Edge has been quite public about how close he is to the end of his career. The recent A&E Biographies episode was about his career and he’s hinted that he’s going to be calling it a career soon. Raw might have been the first time he publicly put a timeframe on it and gave a specific place. WWE typically does this Eastern Canadian swing at the same time each year and it is likely they will be back in Toronto in August of 2023. It would make sense that he might know Toronto is the place where he wants to go out and say goodbye.

Edge Reportedly Injured During WWE Backlash Re-Takes

WWE Hall of Famer Edge was reportedly injured while filming re-takes for the Backlash loss to Randy Orton.

As noted, Edge reportedly suffered a torn triceps in his right arm. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE filmed parts of the match multiple times, and Edge was hurt during the second tapings. There’s no word yet on exactly which spot caused the injury, but Edge was reportedly hurt during the second taping while they were going over re-takes.

WWE did everything they could to keep the injury, and the match result, quiet. The match was first filmed back on Sunday, June 7.

It’s likely that we will hear more on the injury now that the match has aired. A torn triceps usually requires around 8 months or so of recovery time, plus surgery, but there is no timetable for Edge’s return as of this writing.
