Jerry Lawler Pays Tribute To Son Brian Christopher Lawler

Today marks two years since former WWE Tag Team Champion Brian Christopher Lawler passed away.

Lawler’s father, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler, remembered his son on Twitter and noted that they were headed to visit his grave.

“Today is a sad anniversary. Two years ago today we got the horrible news that my son Brian had died. I miss him every day. We are headed to his gravesite now to visit.#RIPBrianChristopher #GrandMasterSexay #ToolCool,” Jerry wrote.

Lawler passed away on July 29, 2018 at the age of 46, while incarcerated for DUI at the Hardeman County Jail in Tennessee. He was found hanging in his cell and his death was ruled a suicide. Jerry has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Hardeman County and Sheriff John Doolen, for allegedly failing to protect his son.

Jerry Lawler Files Wrongful Death Lawsuit Over The 2018 Death Of His Son Brian Christopher

It’s been one year since former WWE star Brian Christopher passed away and now his father Jerry Lawler has taken legal action against the police department where his son was in custody.

According to WMC5 in Memphis, Lawler filed a lawsuit on Friday against the Hardeman County Sheriff in which he’s seeking $3 million in damages.

As we previously reported, Brian Lawler had been arrested prior to his passing and was found hanging in his cell. The official cause of death was ruled a suicide, but Jerry Lawler has continued to raise questions about his son’s death.

In new documents, Lawler explains that he didn’t bail his son out of jail at the time because he was assured by the Sheriff that they’d help with his addiction and personal issues. Instead, however, Jerry claims Brian was placed into solitary confinement after being assaulted by another inmate.

Lawler alleges his son wasn’t assessed for any potential suicide risks afterward — despite suffering from depression, a history of suicide attempts and drug addiction — and instead let him enter a cell with bolts protruding from the walls while wearing tennis shoes that had laces.

The WWE Hall of Famer also believes the supervising officers at the time were negligent in how they dealt with the incident. Lawler claims one officer saw Brian Christopher with a towel over his head and didn’t take action. Instead, he took out the trash first and only took action after finding Brian in the same position when he returned. At that point, he and another officer entered the cell and used children’s scissors to cut the laces.

In addition to the money, “The King” also wants the Hardeman County Sheriff to make changes in order to protect inmates from harm in the future.

Brian was being held in jail after an arrest on charges of DUI, evading arrest, and driving while on a revoked license. Jerry said on Monday that his family wants policies and training in place at the jail, which would protect and provide health cae to those who are in serious medical and mental distress, and those who are an obvious suicide risk.

“It’s just something you have to cope with on a daily basis,” Jerry said. “It never goes away, you think about it every single day. And what makes it worse, like Jeff (Rosenblum) said, is when you feel like it just didn’t have to happen.”

Jerry took to Twitter to remember his son on the one year anniversary of passing, as seen below.

“Today was a very tough day. It’s been exactly one year since my son Brian Christopher died. I want to thank everyone who thought about Brian today. We’ll never forget you, Brian,” Jerry wrote.

Update On The Death Of Brian Christopher, Subpoenas Issued

Brian Christopher passed away at the age of 46 on July 29 when he was found in a Hardeman County Tennessee jail cell after allegedly hanging himself while in isolation. Christopher’s father WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler has remained steadfast that he doesn’t believe the story and that things aren’t adding up when comparing evidence to the jail’s version of events.

ABC-24 is reporting attorneys representing Lawler have now filed two subpoenas, which are demanding answers from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and The Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office with the ongoing investigation of Christopher’s death. The investigation was initially opened the same day Christopher passed away after being taken off life support. Attorney Jeff Rosenblum spoke to ABC-24 about wanting an explanation.

“We were tired of waiting,” Rosenblum said. “This family has waited for more than six months for the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department to provide them with detailed explanation and the documentation as to what happened to their son and we decided that we would take this into our own hands.”

The report continued that no medical examiner’s report has been filed.

Back in August on his podcast, Dinner With The King, Lawler believed they may have to start up their own investigation to get to the truth.

“Once we see the results of that investigation, then we might have to launch an investigation of our own,” Lawler said. “This is not about a lawsuit or trying to sue the jail or sue the Sheriff or sue the county or anything. It’s not about that at all. It’s just about finding out what really happened here.”

Christopher was a one-time WWE Tag Team Champion alongside Scotty 2 Hotty.

Jerry Lawler Says He’s Not Done Trying To Find Out How Brian Christopher Died

In an interview with Local Memphis 24, Jerry Lawler said that he hasn’t given up on finding answers to the mysterious death of his son Brian Christopher. Here are highlights:

On not getting any answers: “Up until this time, we haven’t been able to get any answers from anybody.”

On no autopsy report yet: “That’s the thing that’s so frustrating. You sit around hoping the phone is going to ring anytime and any day you’ll hear some kind of information, something positive. It’s just a slow process.”

On not giving up: “In the words of my attorney, there’s so much smoke that has come out of that Bolivar jail that there’s got to be a fire somewhere. And, you’re right, if we can help unearth that, then maybe things will change, and it’ll be better for some people down the line.”

Jerry Lawler Shares New Details Regarding Brian Christopher’s Death

Image result for Jerry Lawler Shares New Details Regarding Brian Christopher's Death

Brian Christopher passed away on July 29nd, which was reported as a suicide by hanging while he was incarcerated in an isolated Hardeman County Tennessee jail cell. Jerry “The King” Lawler, Christopher’s father, doesn’t believe the reports. He said that he’s been told that you can bet substantial money that Christopher didn’t commit suicide.

Lawler opened up on his Dinner With The King podcast about Christopher’s passing. The Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation is looking into his death and asked Lawler not to speak publically on the matter until their investigation has concluded. Lawler previously detailed the heartbreaking experience of losing his son, and is now talking again giving new details surrounding Christopher’s death.

“Since our last podcast, we’ve got a ton of information and a ton of contact and people reaching out about information about what really happened,” Lawler said. “I know everything that was reported said Brian committed suicide by hanging himself. Now since that time, at least I’m certain — in a lot of people’s minds and certainly in mine — we have serious doubts if that actually happened.

“Right now we’re not at liberty to discuss, some of the things we’re not at liberty to discuss. The Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation is conducting their own investigation into what happened and it’s still an on-going investigation at this time. Once they finish that they will report to the Attorney General in Hardeman County, unfortunately, that’s the same place that the jail and the Sheriff and to me it all seems like a [network]. You know that’s what we’ve been hearing goes on in Hardeman County it’s just been very frustrating. The sad thing is nothing is going to bring Brian back.”

The Lawler Family wants answers and they have been contacted by four different eye-witnesses to the incidents leading to Christopher’s death. All four stories were the same with no deviation as Lawler continued to describe what his family has uncovered regarding Christopher’s final hours.

“Nobody who saw Brian in his last few moments is talking to us,” Lawler said. “But everybody who was in the jail with Brian that day swears — one of the guys he said to me, ‘Mr. Lawler I got $92 to my name, but if I had $9 million I would bet all of it that Brian didn’t hang himself.’ These aren’t any people who have anything to gain by talking to us. as a matter of fact, a lot of them are scared and are worried about their own safety after talking to us and telling us some of the things that went on in the jail that day.

“It’s really frustrating to hear these things but we’re just really trying to find out what happened to Brian.”

Lawler said the TBI doesn’t have to tell them anything about their investigation until it concludes. When he asked how long this type of investigation can last, Lawler was told they can span nearly a year.

“Once we see the results of that investigation, then we might have to launch an investigation of our own,” Lawler said. “This is not about a lawsuit or trying to sue the jail or sue the Sheriff or sue the county or anything. It’s not about that at all. It’s just about finding out what really happened here.”

Lawler said that the isolation cell Christopher was in when he reportedly hanged himself to death has no place where you could hang yourself from. Lawler spoke about even more evidence as pictures contradict the story that he hung himself with his own shoelaces.

“They said he was hanged by shoelaces and there are a couple pictures of Brian’s neck where it’s almost the bruising from what would be a shoelace apparently, and it goes around and it stops on the front of his neck,” Lawler continued. “The bruising stops at what would be the distance of his hand. When you look at a picture of his hand, there’s bruising that looks like the side of his neck going along the inside of Brian’s hand.

“To me, it looks like he had his hand trying to pull something off of his neck that may have been choking him. Those pictures aren’t consistent with somebody hanging themselves. So there’s just a lot of stuff that we have talked about a little but there’s still a lot of stuff we can’t talk about right now.”

Lawler spoke to people who were inmates at the Hardeman County Jail and they revealed cameras are plentiful in the eight-year-old facility. Questions regarding a possible video of Christopher’s tragic passing could be squelched due to rumors of equipment malfunction. His search is a tireless one as he promises not to stop pursuing the truth until the actual events surrounding Christopher’s death are revealed.

“There’s even questions about the surveillance cameras at the jail,” Lawler said. “This is a fairly new jail with supposed upgrades. Some of the inmates said that cameras are everywhere and one of the inmates said you can walk over in the pod and start to pick up a piece of paper and a voice would come over the intercom — ‘Don’t pick up that piece of paper!’ — it’s like they were being watched at every step they made inside this jail.

“So if that’s the case, then why haven’t they come forward with video of what took place. We have also heard — this is a rumor though that we have to substantiate — that twenty of their surveillance cameras were inoperable. So there’s a lot of things we have to find out from the jail and the correction officers. Every inmate’s movements should be tracked all day long so we’re just going to keep searching until we find out.”

Lawyer: Photos of Brian Christopher Lawler’s neck injuries not consistent with reports

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) – Jerry Lawler is sharing new information about the death of his son, who was found in hanging in a jail cell.

Jerry didn’t think he had to worry about his son, Brian, in the Hardeman County Jail.

He said the sheriff even gave him assurances that he would personally make sure Brian was OK, but that didn’t happen.

Jerry and his attorney laid out a disturbing trail of puzzling occurrences leading up to Brian’s death.

“This has been a nightmare, as you can imagine, from the moment I got the call saying that Brian hung himself,” Jerry said.

What makes it even worse, Jerry Lawler does not believe his son Brian actually hung himself in the Hardeman County Jail on July 29.

“Brian being my son, I knew him, everybody around him who knew him and they all have expressed doubts,” Jerry said.

Jerry’s lawyer Ted Hansom said that includes inmates with his son at the Hardeman County Jail.

“We’ve received literally countless calls, text messages from people, actual eyewitnesses, that were in the jail and saw things that happened on the actual day that Brian died that now has opened up a new can of worms,” Jerry said. “It just doesn’t seem like it was suicide.”

Brian was in the Hardeman County Jail after an early July arrest for a DUI. Sheriff John Doolen said Brian, a well-known former WWE star known at one point as Grand Master Sexay, was placed in a cell by himself because of his notoriety.

But Jerry said his son was with other inmates at the jail. He and family members kept in close contact with Brian, speaking to him every day.

It appears Brian was moved to a segregated cell after a fight.

“I talked to Brian Saturday morning 11 o’clock the day he died,” Jerry said. “He talked perfectly normal, perfectly rational.”

A couple of hours later Jerry Lawler’s fiancée Lauryn got a call from the jail.

“Lauryn got a call about 2 in the afternoon that said Brian had been in a fight in the jail,” Jerry said.

Jerry said the fight was described as no big deal.

“An inmate was actually playing cards with Brian when the altercation happened when Brian got hit,” Jerry said.

Jerry said witnesses described Brian as bleeding from the head asking for medical help that he apparently didn’t get at the jail.

Then four or five hours later, the call came in that Brian had hung himself.

“It just doesn’t pass the smell test,” Jerry said.

Another reason Jerry believes that is because of photos of Brian taken in the hospital before he died.

Jerry said the sheriff told his fiancée that Brian used his shoestrings to hang himself. The photos show marks on either side of Brian’s neck, but not in the front of his neck.

“Just look at his neck and look at his hand,” Jerry said. “You can see the lines on his neck all the way around here to here and what would be the length of your hand as if he was trying to keep the pressure off.”

“I think the pictures indicate something other than someone hanging himself with a shoelace,” Hansom said.

The TBI investigation into Brian’s death is not complete, so Jerry does not have access to the case file at this point.

Jerry said 20 of the cameras inside the jail were reportedly not working.

Brian Lawler’s death certificate indicates he died from suicide by hanging.

“Jerry and his family want to know the truth about what happened to Brian,” Hansom said.

Jerry says he won’t quit.

“Not until we find out exactly what happened,” Jerry said.

WMC Action News 5 contacted the TBI and was told the case of Brian Lawler’s death is active and ongoing.

They also reached out to Hardeman County Sheriff, John Doolen, who did not return their call.

Jerry Lawler On Why He Doesn’t Believe Brian Christopher Killed Himself

Image result for Jerry Lawler and Brian Christopher

Brian Christopher was found hanging in his jail cell while being kept in isolation in a Hardeman County Tennessee facility. Jerry “The King” Lawler, Christopher’s father spoke on his Dinner With The King podcast, where he was able to vent and share with his fans what the past few days of his life have been like.

The Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation is currently investigating Christopher’s death. The WWE Hall Of Famer was asked by the TBI not to discuss the events due to their on-going investigation. Lawler did share his experience and expressed disbelief at the events.

“I never dreamed it in a million years to get the phone call that I got last week,” Lawler said. “It was just devastating and then all of the events after that have almost been a blur. You’re suddenly living a nightmare.”

Lawler was at a hotel in Raleigh, North Carolina after an event and his phone rang. A Hardeman County Sheriff was on the other end saying, “Mr. Lawler, I just wanted to call and tell you that your son Brian has hung himself at the jail.”

“I knew this was the real deal, but I didn’t believe it,” Lawler said.

He was informed they were transporting Christopher to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Lawler was informed Christopher didn’t have a pulse at first, but they were able to re-establish breathing after discovering him in his cell. Then he was called a few minutes later and informed that his son was being airlifted to Memphis for more intensive trauma care.

“I was stuck there in Raleigh, there was nothing I could do until the next morning when I could get on the plane,” Lawler said. All he could do was talk to his family about Christopher’s condition and he held out hope that his son would pull through. Things seemed to change for Lawler after he finally arrived back in Memphis to find his son in a hospital bed.

“That’s when it really hit me when I walked into the emergency room and saw Brian lying there,” Lawler said. He was told, “it didn’t look good,” and Lawler said he knew the only thing keeping Christopher alive was a breathing machine.

The Lawler Family was informed that Christopher’s brain stem was still intact but his brain had been deprived of oxygen long enough that there was no chance of a response. While not ruling out a miracle, the experts said they’d never seen someone come back from a condition like Christopher’s.

Lawler said his son was also given IV medication to keep his pulse up until his blood pressure started going down on its own. His doctor advised that they can keep trying to keep Christopher alive with medication, but it was prolonging the inevitable. After deciding not to give Christopher the medication to elevate his pulse, his blood pressure dramatically decreased.

“We just let him not put the blood pressure medicine in,” Lawler said. “Sure enough in about — it really went down fast — I would say in about twenty minutes his blood pressure was down to basically nothing.

“We just stood there and I held his hand and his heart stopped beating. That was it.”

The family was given all the time they needed to say goodbye before leaving and then they were forced to plan an unexpected funeral service.

“What you saw with Brian was what you got,” Lawler said. “Going back to what caused all of this or why Brian was in the situation he was in. You know, Brian made some bad decisions in his life. It’s one of the things I was trying to say to him when he was in [the hospital], I said, ‘Brian you have made some bad decisions, but this is your worst if you really made the decision to take your life.'”

Christopher was arrested for a third DUI charge and jailed on July 7th, three weeks before his death. Lawler said his son was working out at the gym and came home at around 11:00 pm when a police officer pulled in behind him as Christopher entered his own home’s driveway.

The WWE Hall Of Famer was assured by the Hardeman Country Sheriff that Christopher would be safe in his jail and he encouraged the Memphis wrestling legend to keep his son behind bars. Lawler was told this is what Christopher needed and he was promised further drug and alcohol rehabilitation following incarceration.

“I had many conversations with Brian from the time he got arrested from the time he was in jail,” Lawler said. “I even went to meet Brian and the Sheriff of Hardeman Country in his own office and had Brian in there.

“Brian was at the point where he needed help and I think he realized it. But, you know there’s some things that went on while Brian was in jail and then he basically was going to have a mandatory — it was his third DUI — and in Tennessee, I believe that’s a mandatory ninety-days in jail. We spoke with the Sheriff and this is the crazy thing, he said, ‘this is going to be the best thing for Brian. He needs help, we’re going to get him some help. We’ll get him into a rehab program from here.’ He said, ‘Jerry, my jail is going to be the best place for Brian for the next few weeks.’ He said, ‘I’ll personally keep an eye on him and he’ll be safe here,’ and then this is what’s happened.”

Lawler said there is more to the story, but he is unable to speak about it in detail. Hopefully, in time, we will know the full truth, but until then, Lawler voiced his doubts that his son really decided to take his own life.

“I have doubts as to whether Brian really did actually commit suicide,” Lawler said. “The Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation is working on investigating what happened at the jail. I don’t have any results from that yet, but I have my doubts as well.

“We’ve been contacted by inmates who were in the jail with Brian and they don’t believe what was told was actually what happened. We’ve been contacted by another person who witnessed… I probably shouldn’t say any more because this investigation is ongoing and it may take a long time to get sorted out.

“I don’t want to believe that Brian committed suicide but by the same token, if there is something else involved, it will bring Brian back, I don’t know if it will make it better or worse. We just want to know what actually happened because right now there’s a lot of doubt and a lot of questions that are going to have to be answered in the next few months.”

Lawler voiced his question of how his son was even able to hang himself while in his cell if he actually chose to end his own life. He went on to say his attorney also didn’t believe this version of the story.

“My attorney just looked at this and said, his exact words were, ‘Jerry, this doesn’t pass the smell test. I mean something’s not right about this whole thing.'”

Lawler Family attorney Ted Hansom told WBTV News that the family is looking for specific answers regarding what happened to Christopher.

“What’s been put out is this is a suicide or attempted suicide,” Hansom said. “So yes, I would say the family is certainly shocked and surprised at that.”

Despite the eight-year-old Hardeman County Jail passing inspection reports, Hansom and The Lawler Family are not convinced they know the whole story.

“I accept the reports for what they are and to the extent that they represent a report,” Hansom said. “Obviously in this day and time, many places, particularly jails have video cameras in just about every corner. So it would be interesting to see the actual events.”

Sean Waltman Is Infuriated With How Brian Christopher’s Incarceration Was Handled

Brian Christopher’s death occurred when the former WWE Tag Team Champion was in isolation while incarcerated. Christopher was arrested on July 7th for DUI and evading arrest before his suicide three weeks later. Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen said that Christopher was placed in “a cell by himself” because of his notoriety, but that he was not on suicide watch because “the Sheriff’s Department had no indication he was suicidal.”

Sean Waltman has dealt with struggles like Christopher’s and addressed his death on X-Pac 12360. The former DX member said Christopher should have never been in an isolated situation for that long.

“I’m really pissed about this, really pissed,” Waltman said. “Because I’ve been in that situation in more than one way. And you don’t take someone that’s not done something violent or isn’t a danger to others. Even then, you don’t put somebody in solitary confinement.

“You don’t put people in solitary confinement for that long that didn’t do s–t and then go, ‘Oh, it wasn’t solitary confinement.’ It’s f–king solitary confinement! I’ve been in it, if you’ve never actually been in it I don’t want to hear it from you at all. It’s torture. It drives you crazy, you don’t have to be suicidal, you become suicidal. You stay in there with no one to talk too staring at the walls for that long.”

Waltman knows what Christopher was going through as he’s hit rock bottom himself. Christopher was in an incredibly vulnerable place at the time of his death, while comparing Grand Master Sexay’s story to his own, Waltman expressed his love for Christopher and spoke about his unique character away from the ring.

“I’ve been there and I’ve hung myself and so I know. I have a pretty good idea of where [Christopher] was and it’s just about the worst place you can ever imagine. Not only are you in the lowest possible place but you die that way. You never come up out of it… I love [Christopher], I was tight with Brian in WWE. He was crazy as f–k no doubt, but if you knew him like I did you would know he’s a real wonderful guy.”

The Tennessee Bureau Of Investigation has launched an investigation into Christopher’s passing, however, Jeff Rosenblum, an attorney with experience in cases where inmates sued prisons for injury or lack of care said the Lawler Family should demand an independent review.

Christopher’s father Jerry Lawler spoke to Memphis’ Fox 13 news’ Zach Crenshaw briefly about the investigation into Christopher’s passing saying, “There may be more to this than meets the eye.” Lawler said he was asked by the TBI not to disclose any information in the case because it is still ongoing.
