Arn Anderson Leaving AEW

Earlier this week, “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry confirmed that after his contract with AEW expired on May 28, he’d be moving on from the company in order to better focus on some of his professional projects. On the latest episode of the “ARN” podcast, wrestling legend Arn Anderson announced that he too will be imminently leaving All Elite Wrestling, as his respective contract expires on Friday, May 31. The reasoning for Anderson’s departure, however, is much more personal.

“The limited time that I have left [in my wrestling career], I want to spend with [my son] Brock, because I think Brock has aptitude and attitude,” Anderson said. “I think he will be a player for somebody. And I just got to get him some experience, and that’s where I’m going to go with my time – helping develop Brock and teaching him. If he comes along like I think and hope it will, it will be sooner than later. So I just want to say thank you to Tony [Khan]. This coming, believe it or not, on double shot day, [May] 31st is the last day of my contract. I just want to say thank you. I appreciate everything, and that goes to everybody that works there.”

During his five-year tenure with AEW, Anderson notably served as a mentor, manager, and coach. Upon his arrival at AEW in 2019, “The Enforcer” was appointed as the on-screen personal advisor to “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes, who resided as one of AEW’s founding members. After Rhodes exited AEW in early 2022, Anderson shifted his attention to managing the likes of Wardlow, Lee Johnson, and his son, Brock Anderson. Brock spent two years in AEW before leaving the company in October 2023.

Arn Anderson Joins AEW As Cody’s Personal Advisor/Head Coach

Wrestling legend/WWE Hall of Famer, Arn Anderson is joining AEW to advise Cody Rhodes as his head coach in 2020.

The announcement states:

Since AEW exploded onto the wrestling scene just one year ago, it has consistently dazzled fans with its groundbreaking shows, world-class roster, inclusive attitude and impactful announcements. To wrap AEW’s inaugural year, Cody today announced that legendary wrestler Arn Anderson will be Cody’s personal advisor and head coach for the 2020 season, starting with the New Year’s Day DYNAMITE show in Jacksonville, Florida.

According to AEW, Anderson will be ringside for Cody’s match against Darby Allin on January 1.

“2019 was the most successful year I’ve had in pro-wrestling,” Cody stated in the press release. “Beyond the superfluous financial, it’s been incredibly rewarding on a spiritual level to be able to engage so many fans with a like-minded place in their hearts for the sport.

“That said, one of my greatest fears came true as I lost the opportunity to wrestle for the World Championship again. But, on the other side of that fear is freedom to chase every other accolade
outside of that title,” Rhodes added.

“I still want to collect all the accolades I can and dominate the singles division. That’s why I’m bringing in Arn Anderson as my personal advisor and head coach. He has been in business with my family for over three decades. Having been a wrestler throughout so many different generations of talent, he understands what ingredients it takes to look beyond the horizon and produce the best content and results.”

It’s unclear at this time time whether Arn will also work behind the scenes in some capacity for AEW or if this is strictly an on-camera role.

“Four Horsemen” And Other New Trademark Filings By Cody, Conrad Thompson And Arn Anderson

We have seen a flurry of activity on the professional wrestling intellectual property front recently with All Elite Wrestling’s Cody [Rhodes], professional wrestling podcaster Conrad Thompson, and professional wrestling great Arn Anderson all filing for trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

On March 10, 2019, Cody Runnels, also known as Cody in professional wrestling circles, applied to trademark the moniker he has used on the indie scene, ‘The American Nightmare’. Of course, ‘The American Nightmare’ is a take on Cody’s famous father’s nickname, ‘The American Dream’, which Cody also applied to trademark on March 10, 2019.

Conrad Thompson, through his business entity, Toot Toot, LLC, applied to trademark ‘Four Horsemen’ on March 10, 2019.

Also of note, recently released WWE producer, Arn Anderson, applied to trademark his ring name on March 9, 2019.

All of these new trademark applications were filed through the same Attorney Of Record, Michael E. Dockins of Toledo, Ohio. We recently reported that WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross applied to trademark the phrase, ‘The Voice Of Wrestling’ for appearances and podcasts. Michael E. Dockins is the Attorney Of Record for that recent filing as well.

Arn Anderson Comments On WWE Release

WWE Hall of Famer Arn Anderson recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated and issued his first comments since being released from his WWE producer job last month.

“I was fortunate enough to work with WWE for 18 years,” Anderson said. “Certainly that provided my family and myself with a nice living, and I have no regrets. A lot of my best friends still work there. Everything has a shelf life, and I guess mine ran out.”

Anderson didn’t discuss any specifics regarding why he was released. The Enforcer of the Four Horsemen will make his first post-WWE appearance at Starrcast II in Las Vegas during the weekend of May 23-26, which is the same weekend as AEW’s Double Or Nothing event. This will be Arn’s first non-WWE sanctioned appearance in almost 20 years.

“It used to be a dangerous setting when they handed me a live mic,” Anderson said of the Starrcast appearance. “So we’ll see if it will be again.”

Backstage News On Arn Anderson’s WWE Firing

Arn Anderson was released from WWE in February due to an incident at a live event with Alicia Fox.

Wrestling Inc. has confirmed with multiple sources that Anderson was fired because Fox showed up at a live event intoxicated. Anderson was the agent for her match and allowed her to perform. Vince McMahon was reportedly furious when he found out and it was the final straw.

Anderson had been working with WWE since WCW folded in 2001. He would occasionally appear in backstage segments and even got physical at the WWE Starrcade event in November of 2017, where he delivered his trademark spinebuster to Dolph Ziggler.

Fox’s status is unclear. She was not backstage at RAW last week.

Report: WWE Releases Arn Anderson

Arn Anderson Parts Ways With WWE

Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that WWE Hall Of Famer Arn Anderson of the Four Horsemen faction, and longtime behing-the-scenes producer / agent for has been released from the company.

According to the report, Anderson “exited the company on Thursday.”

It is unclear at this point why Anderson, who has worked for WWE since 2001, has departed from the company.

Anderson retired from in-ring competition in 1997 due to neck and back injuries, but still got in the ring for the occasional tag match or bump. Anderson has been a road agent with WWE since WCW folded in 2001. He occasionally appeared in backstage segments over the years, whether that was to offer advice to young superstars or participate in small comedic segments.

One of the original members of the Four Horsemen, “The Enforcer” is a multi-time tag team champion, winning titles with the then-WWF, WCW and NWA.

Although not confirmed, the influx of new road agents like Abyss, Gregory Helms and Daivari may have been a factor in WWE and him parting ways. This news comes just a few days before Ric Flair’s birthday celebration on RAW.
