Alexa Bliss Dealing With Bad Sinus Infection Going Into WWE Extreme Rules

Alexa Bliss has missed recent WWE TV events due to an illness. She is still scheduled to team with Nikki Cross for the 2-on-1 Handicap Match against SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley at Sunday’s WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view.

Bliss is currently suffering from a “really bad” sinus infection, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio.

Bliss’ sinus infection is the reason Cross was added to the match. Meltzer noted that originally they were not going to have Cross in the match, but plans changed due to Bliss’ illness.

Bliss has not commented on being out of action, but she did make this tweet with the “face with thermometer” emoji earlier this week:

Saudi Arabian Government Reportedly Denies WWE Request For Alexa Bliss Vs. Natalya At Super ShowDown

Alexa Bliss vs. Natalya will not be happening at WWE Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia today after all.

WWE had hoped to make history with the first women’s division match in the Kingdom, but the Saudi Arabian government did not give approval, according to an update from F4Wonline.com.

We noted earlier this afternoon how Bliss and Natalya were in Jeddah getting cleared for the potential match. Triple H sent an official request to The General Sports Authority (GSA) of the Saudi government, and was waiting for approval to come back. That approval never came and the match was denied.

Bliss and Natalya did make a few promotional appearances in the Kingdom earlier today, along with some of the male Superstars, but they were covered up in local attire.

There’s also no word on details of the request being turned down, but F4Wonline.com reports that at one point the Saudis indicated to WWE that the match would be able to take place on this card.

Speculation On Alexa Bliss Vs. Natalya At WWE Super ShowDown In Saudi Arabia

There’s now heavy speculation on WWE doing a women’s division match at WWE Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia on Friday. This would be the first time female Superstars perform in the Kingdom, if it happens.

PWInsider, has reported that Natalya is making the trip to Saudi Arabia for Friday’s big event in Jeddah. Fightful has since revealed that Alexa Bliss is also making the trip. There’s no official word yet on why they are making the trip to the Kingdom, or if they will appear. Renee Young is also making the trip over, but she will likely be calling the show as she did at Crown Jewel last year.

Furthermore, @Wrestlevotes reported today that WWE discussed doing a women’s match at Super ShowDown several months ago. The idea then was to do Nia Jax vs. Natalya, but Jax is currently out of action with an injury. It looks like they might do Bliss vs. Natalya now, which would be huge for WWE due to local laws and customs that have prevented women from wrestling there.

Bliss and Sasha Banks made history back in December 2017 when they wrestled the first women’s match in the Middle East during a WWE live event in Abu Dhabi. Bliss recently spoke with Sky Sports and said she hopes to participate in another first for the company in Saudi Arabia.

“I would love to [have a match in Saudi Arabia],” Bliss said. “I was very nervous at first with the match in Abu Dhabi because I didn’t know how we were going to be received but it was actually incredible. The crowd was all for our women being there and having that title match. I had an amazing time and I would love to be able to be have a match in Saudi Arabia if given the opportunity. Women have never competed there in any aspect so it would be awesome to entertain there and break down barriers. It shows that our business is global.”

WWE has not provided an official reason for Bliss being out of action. Bliss’ injury is listed as “undisclosed” internally, which is becoming the common term for concussions. Bliss has suffered several concussions recently, however Meltzer noted that WWE had expected her to be cleared for tonight’s show and pulled her due to the bout being a ladder match.

Bliss has not wrestled since she faced Naomi on the April 29th episode of RAWNikki Cross will be replacing Bliss in tonight’s match. Ember Moon, Bayley, Naomi, Natalya, Dana Brooke, Carmella and Mandy Rose are also scheduled for the bout.

Alexa Bliss Return Rumor, Bliss Reportedly Training In A Special Ring At The WWE Performance Center

As noted earlier this week, via Dave Meltzer and F4Wonline.comAlexa Bliss has not been fully cleared for in-ring action by the WWE doctors. This update came after WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry stated during a Busted Open Radio interview that Bliss was 100% cleared.

In an update on Bliss’ status, Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live that there’s been talk of Bliss staying out of action until the 2019 Royal Rumble pay-per-view in late January. This has not been confirmed and should be taken as a rumor for now.

Alvarez also revealed that Bliss has been training in a special ring at the WWE Performance Center. We noted earlier that Bliss finally returned to in-ring training at the Performance Center last week after being out for a while with concussion issues. It was also reported that medical staff were watching closely as Bliss took light bumps at the Performance Center. Bliss was actually taking much lighter bumps as she was working out in a special ring that is basically a crash pad with ring ropes.

Dubbed the “High Flyer” ring, it was built with a crash pad that’s almost 1 foot thick, which helps absorb the impact as talents are doing their bumps. The ring allows talents to work on their high-risk moves without the fear of getting hurt. The crash pad ring uses material similar to pads used on action movie sets and it was inspired by the kids foam ring that is used at the WrestleMania Axxess events.

Bliss was training in this crash pad ring so they could make sure she’s able to take the softer bumps without the concussion symptoms getting worse.

Bliss, who does have limited clearance for physical activity, suffered multiple concussions in a short period of time, the last one reportedly happening in late October of this year. WWE has kept her on TV as the storyline boss of the RAW women’s division but there’s been no word on when she might wrestle another match. Alvarez’s report did not indicate if there is talk of having her wrestle in the build-up to the Rumble or if it would be in the actual 30-woman Rumble match.

For those who missed it, Henry talked to Busted Open about a recent conversation he had with Bliss, where she revealed just how bad she got with the concussion symptoms.

“We sat and talked for about 15-20 minutes,” Henry recalled, “And she was like, ‘Yeah, I was really bad off. I couldn’t remember where I was, I couldn’t remember what I was doing in the city.’ We were flying from London to Switzerland and she said, ‘I couldn’t remember what flight or anything. I had to rely one everyone else telling me what to do. I couldn’t stand up straight, I had vertigo.’ She said she was in a bad way, and then she came back too soon, banged her head again, and really was in a bad place.”

Alexa Bliss Reportedly NOT Cleared For A WWE Ring Return

Alexa Bliss has NOT been fully cleared for in-ring action, according to a new report by Dave Meltzer and F4Wonline.com.

As we noted on Wednesday, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry appeared on Busted Open Radio and claimed Bliss has been 100% cleared to return to the ring following her time off due to concussion symptoms.

Meltzer noted that Bliss does have limited clearance for physical activity. WWE medical staff were watching closely at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando last week as Bliss returned to in-ring training.

Bliss has suffered multiple concussions in a short period of time, the last one reportedly happening in late October. Bliss has remained on TV and was recently put in charge of the RAW women’s division in the storylines.

Henry, who estimated Bliss could wrestle as soon as next week, also talked about a recent conversation he had with Bliss where she talked about just how bad she got with the concussion symptoms.
