AEW Star Thunder Rosa Set To Return To The Ring On Next Week’s Collision

During this week’s “AEW Collision” episode, Thunder Rosa worked as a Spanish language commentator. However, after Abadon was attacked by both AEW TBS Champion Julia Hart and Skye Blue, she returned to the ring and indicated that she’s now injury-free. Furthermore, next week’s episode of “Collision” will see the former AEW Women’s Champion have her first match since the August 10, 2022, taped episode of “AEW Dark: Elevation.”

Rosa will team up with Abadon on next week’s show to face Blue and Hart. The episode is part of AEW’s annual “Holiday Bash” special and will be taking place in San Antonio, Texas, at the Frost Bank Center. It’s worth noting that San Antonio is the hometown of Rosa. Her first and so far only AEW Women’s Title reign started in her hometown, where she became the champion after defeating Britt Baker in a steel cage match on the March 16, 2022, episode of “AEW Dynamite” at the Freeman Coliseum.

Rosa had been out of action for more than a year due to a serious back injury, which forced her to relinquish the AEW Women’s Title during the November 23, 2022, episode of “Dynamite.” Rosa has been a part of the AEW roster since July 2021, debuting as the NWA Women’s Champion on the September 2, 2020, episode of “Dynamite” in a match against Serena Deeb. Fans will undoubtedly be happy to see her in action again, but it remains to be seen if she’ll win her old championship back.

Kenny Omega ‘Out Indefinitely’ With Diverticulitis

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported via X that Omega had been sick for the last week, even before his “AEW Collision” match with Ethan Page, and was hospitalized and diagnosed with diverticulitis following his promo segment on “AEW Dynamite.”

On Wednesday, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho challenged AEW World Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill to a title match at the Worlds End PPV on December 30. On Friday, word came down from Omega himself that poured a jet of cold water on that idea.

Late Friday afternoon, Omega took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce that he is ‘out indefinitely.’ The post was accompanied by a picture of Omega in a hospital bed.

“I can’t really sugar coat this,” Omega wrote. “I’m out indefinitely. I tried to keep pushing past the pain for as long as I could until it became too much. Luckily doctors caught me when they did. I’ll be here so in the mean time, please enjoy wrestling!”

The nature of the injury, the timeline of when AEW learned about it, and any new plans for Jericho, Starks, and Bill heading toward Worlds End remains unclear. The injury comes after Omega spent November and December forming a successful tag team with Jericho as The Golden Jets, even defeating his old friends The Young Bucks at AEW Full Gear in a match for the latter team’s tag team title shot. Given that the Bucks haven’t been seen since and “Hangman” Adam Page was ambushed by the mysterious Devil figure and his minions at the end of Wednesday’s “AEW Dynamite,” All Elite Wrestling could be entirely without The Elite for a little while going forward.

AEW’s Jim Ross Provides Health Update

While Jim Ross has still played a large role in AEW, the last few years have seen the veteran commentator dealing with a number of serious health issues. As of now, Ross has been taken off the road for AEW so he can recover, and on a recent episode of “Grilling JR,” the WWE Hall of Famer offered an update on some of the concerns he’s currently facing.

“I’m getting an MRI next week to make sure that there’s no damage to the bone in my leg, just as a precaution,” Ross said. “I don’t want to deal with bone cancer, for God’s sake, and we’re pretty sure that isn’t the case.”

Right now, one of the biggest issues Ross is dealing with is the management of his blood sugar. The commentator dealt with a skin cancer diagnosis several years ago, and while he is in remission, the damage to his leg never fully recovered. Ross said that his blood sugar levels have made that process more difficult.

“Two weeks ago, my blood sugar was 300,” Ross continued. “That’s death material, I was told. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.”

Ross said that his current goal is to get his blood sugar under 200 and keep it there. While he was able to lower it, the levels tend to jump back up, which is something he needs to avoid. Despite the difficult situation, Ross shared that he’s still keeping his head up, crediting the support he has been receiving.

“I really do appreciate all the fans on social media,” Ross said. “It’s heart-warming, and it’s meaningful.”

According to the AEW commentator, he is on the road to recovery, with his condition improving slowly but surely. Ross said he recently quit drinking alcohol as part of his health goals, and it has made a positive difference in his health.

Major Update On Kyle O’Reilly’s AEW Status 18 Months After Neck Injury

It’s been more than a year and a half since wrestling fans last saw Kyle O’Reilly in the ring. The AEW star has been inactive as he recovers from neck fusion surgery, and with no news on his condition for months, it seemed a safe bet he would go all of 2023 without making an appearance on AEW TV. But with less than a month left in the year, a positive update has finally come along.

Fightful Select reports that O’Reilly has recently been backstage at AEW tapings, and that there has been talk of O’Reilly returning to TV, though no timetable was given for when. This is a stark contrast to the previous update O’Reilly gave earlier this year when the former reDragon member did not indicate a potential return was imminent.

O’Reilly debuted in AEW two years ago this month after his contract with WWE expired, immediately aligning with former Undisputed Era teammates Adam Cole and Bobby Fish. The trio would form the Undisputed Elite with the Young Bucks, but the group was short-lived after both O’Reilly and Cole were put on the shelf with injuries, while Fish left AEW after his contract expired. O’Reilly’s last wrestled on June 8, 2022, while he last appeared on AEW TV on August 3.

The news of O’Reilly’s potential return comes as AEW World Champion MJF, himself a close friend of Cole, has been targeted by a group of unidentified men led by a mysterious man in a devil mask, though O’Reilly himself has drawn little speculation as the potential “devil.”
