Netflix Acquires Warner Bros.

The media world woke up to a bombshell: after months of speculation, Netflix has officially struck a deal to acquire Warner Bros. If regulators sign off, this move could put the streaming rights to both WWE and AEW under the same corporate roof — something unthinkable just a year ago.

What Netflix Is Actually Buying

Netflix confirmed that the agreement includes the Warner Bros. movie and TV studios, along with HBO and the HBO Max platform. However, the previously announced internal split at Warner Bros. Discovery is still happening. Once the dust settles:

  • Netflix gets the Warner Bros. studio assets and HBO/HBO Max
  • Discovery Global becomes its own separate company, holding cable networks like TBS, TNT, and Discovery Channel

That separation is crucial. While Netflix gains major entertainment brands, the networks that actually air AEW programming will live under the Discovery side, not Netflix.

For now, Netflix says HBO Max will continue operating as-is — a temporary situation at best, given Netflix’s long-term strategy.

Where Does This Leave AEW?

AEW’s future is the biggest question mark in all of this.

The promotion only recently locked in a multi-year extension with WBD, keeping AEW Dynamite and AEW Collision on TBS and TNT. That deal should theoretically keep AEW secure for several years, but big mergers often come with hidden contract escape clauses, restructuring options, or renegotiation triggers.

And then there’s the ownership wrinkle: WBD was reported to own a small equity stake in AEW. Once the company splits into two and Netflix acquires half, it’s unclear where that ownership slice will land — Discovery Global, Netflix, or somewhere else entirely.

Meanwhile, WWE’s Netflix Partnership Keeps Growing

WWE already has one foot firmly planted in the Netflix world. At the start of 2025, Raw officially left cable and debuted as a Netflix-exclusive show in the U.S. The streaming giant also hosts multiple WWE programs overseas, and although American PLEs are now tied to ESPN+, Netflix remains one of WWE’s most important global partners.

If the Warner Bros. acquisition goes through, Netflix could find itself with indirect ties to both major wrestling promotions — an unprecedented situation.

Potential Industry-Wide Ripple Effects

The landscape for wrestling media rights was already shifting rapidly, and this deal could accelerate those changes. AEW may face downstream effects depending on who controls the networks airing their shows and who ends up holding that reported ownership stake. WWE’s relationship with Netflix could deepen or evolve as the company absorbs massive new assets.

For fans, this could eventually influence where and how they watch both WWE and AEW programming — especially as streaming services consolidate and content libraries merge.

One thing is clear: Netflix’s bold move is reshaping the entertainment world, and the wrestling industry may be heading toward one of its most unpredictable media eras yet.

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Dec. 5, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Netflix, Inc. (the Company) and Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. (WBD) announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Netflix will acquire Warner Bros., including its film and television studios, HBO Max and HBO.

NETFLIX TO ACQUIRE WARNER BROS.(opens in a new window)

The cash and stock transaction is valued at $27.75 per WBD share (subject to a collar as detailed below), with a total enterprise value of approximately $82.7 billion (equity value of $72.0 billion). The transaction is expected to close after the previously announced separation of WBD’s Global Networks division, Discovery Global, into a new publicly-traded company, which is now expected to be completed in Q3 2026.

This acquisition brings together two pioneering entertainment businesses, combining Netflix’s innovation, global reach and best-in-class streaming service with Warner Bros.’ century-long legacy of world-class storytelling. Beloved franchises, shows and movies such as The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones, The Wizard of Oz and the DC Universe will join Netflix’s extensive portfolio including Wednesday, Money Heist, Bridgerton, Adolescenceand Extraction, creating an extraordinary entertainment offering for audiences worldwide.

“Our mission has always been to entertain the world,” said Ted Sarandos, co-CEO of Netflix. “By combining Warner Bros.’ incredible library of shows and movies—from timeless classics like Casablancaand Citizen Kaneto modern favorites like Harry Potter and Friends—with our culture-defining titles like Stranger Things, KPop Demon Hunters and Squid Game, we’ll be able to do that even better. Together, we can give audiences more of what they love and help define the next century of storytelling.”

“This acquisition will improve our offering and accelerate our business for decades to come,” continued Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix. “Warner Bros. has helped define entertainment for more than a century and continues to do so with phenomenal creative executives and production capabilities. With our global reach and proven business model, we can introduce a broader audience to the worlds they create—giving our members more options, attracting more fans to our best-in-class streaming service, strengthening the entire entertainment industry and creating more value for shareholders.”

“Today’s announcement combines two of the greatest storytelling companies in the world to bring to even more people the entertainment they love to watch the most,” said David Zaslav, President and CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery. “For more than a century, Warner Bros. has thrilled audiences, captured the world’s attention, and shaped our culture. By coming together with Netflix, we will ensure people everywhere will continue to enjoy the world’s most resonant stories for generations to come.”

Combination Will Offer More Choice, More Opportunities, More Value

Complementary strengths and assets: Warner Bros.’ studios are world-class, with Warner Bros. recognized as a leading supplier of television titles and filmed entertainment. HBO and HBO Max also provide a compelling, complementary offering for consumers. Netflix expects to maintain Warner Bros.’ current operations and build on its strengths, including theatrical releases for films.
More choice and greater value for consumers: By adding the deep film and TV libraries and HBO and HBO Max programming, Netflix members will have even more high-quality titles from which to choose. This also allows Netflix to optimize its plans for consumers, enhancing viewing options and expanding access to content.
A stronger entertainment industry: This acquisition will enhance Netflix’s studio capabilities, allowing the Company to significantly expand U.S. production capacity and continue to grow investment in original content over the long term which will create jobs and strengthen the entertainment industry.
More opportunities for the creative community: By uniting Netflix’s member experience and global reach with Warner Bros.’ renowned franchises and extensive library, the Company will create greater value for talent—offering more opportunities to work with beloved intellectual property, tell new stories and connect with a wider audience than ever before.
More value for shareholders: By offering members a wider selection of quality series and films, Netflix expects to attract and retain more members, drive more engagement and generate incremental revenue and operating income. The Company also expects to realize at least $2-3 billion of cost savings per year by the third year and expects the transaction to be accretive to GAAP earnings per share by year two.
Transaction Details and Timing

Under the terms of the agreement, each WBD shareholder will receive $23.25 in cash and $4.501 in shares of Netflix common stock for each share of WBD common stock outstanding at the closing of the transaction. The transaction values Warner Bros. Discovery at $27.75 per share, implying a total equity value of approximately $72.0 billion and an enterprise value of approximately $82.7 billion.

In June 2025, WBD announced plans to separate(opens in a new window) its Streaming & Studios and Global Networks divisions into two separate publicly traded companies. This separation is now expected to be completed in Q3 2026, prior to the closing of this transaction. The newly separated publicly traded company holding the Global Networks division, Discovery Global, will include premier entertainment, sports and news television brands around the world including CNN, TNT Sports in the U.S., and Discovery, free-to-air channels across Europe, and digital products such as Discovery+ and Bleacher Report.

The stock component is subject to a collar under which WBD shareholders will receive Netflix stock valued at $4.50 per share, provided the 15-day volume weighted average price (“VWAP”) of Netflix stock price (measured three trading days prior to closing) falls between $97.91 and $119.67. If the VWAP is below $97.91, WBD shareholders will receive 0.0460 Netflix shares for each WBD share. If the VWAP is above $119.67, WBD shareholders will receive 0.0376 Netflix shares for each WBD share.

The transaction was unanimously approved by the Boards of Directors of both Netflix and WBD. In addition to the completion of the separation of Discovery Global (WBD’s Global Networks business), completion of the transaction is subject to required regulatory approvals, approval of WBD shareholders and other customary closing conditions. The transaction is expected to close in 12-18 months.

Moelis & Company LLC is acting as Netflix’s financial advisor and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP is serving as legal counsel. Wells Fargo is acting as an additional financial advisor and, along with BNP and HSBC, is providing committed debt financing related to the transaction.

Allen & Company, J.P. Morgan and Evercore are serving as financial advisors to Warner Bros. Discovery and Wachtell Lipton, Rosen & Katz and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP are serving as legal counsel.

Netflix will conduct a conference call today at 5:00am PT/8:00am ET to discuss the contents of this release. A link to the live webcast of the conference call will be available at https://ir.netflix.net/(opens in a new window).

Bang Bang Gang Steal the $200K

The Zero Hour kicked off with a chaotic $200K three-way tag bout featuring Morrissey & Bryan Keith, The Outrunners, and the duo that insist they’re “not The Acclaimed anymore” (Anthony Bowens & Max Caster).
After a fast-paced sprint filled with dives, standoffs, and Big Bill throwing folks like laundry, the finish came when Juice Robinson rolled up Bowens, securing the briefcase for Bullet Club Gold.

Bowens immediately blamed Caster afterward — tension’s brewing.

QT Marshall & Big Boom AJ Score a Big Win

In a rough-and-tumble tag fight, QT Marshall & Big Boom AJ defeated Roppongi Vice, thanks in part to outside chaos involving Big Justice, Paul Wight, and various cheap shots.
A blockbuster–powerbomb combo sealed the deal.

Callis Family Drama Already Boiling

Backstage, Don Callis, Josh Alexander, and the Young Bucks hyped their million-dollar match, while Callis tried to reassure everyone that adding Okada to the Family wasn’t backfiring.
Spoiler: It absolutely was.

Kingston & HOOK Handle the WorkHorsemen

A short but stiff affair saw Eddie Kingston pin Anthony Henry while HOOK choked out JD Drake.

Sky Team Retain CMLL World Trios Championship; Callis Family Implodes

The Callis Family’s trios title challenge went sideways before the bell even rang.
Hechicero jumped Sky Team early, Mistico got his arm mangled, and Okada didn’t even show up until the fight was halfway done, arriving in style and making a full entrance while Takeshita fought alone.

Despite moments where Okada and Takeshita nearly came to blows, Sky Team rallied, and Mistico submitted Hechicero with La Mistica to retain.

Afterward, Okada and Takeshita argued again — this faction is duct-taped together at best.

PAC Defeats Darby Allin After Brutal Bat Shot

A wounded Darby Allin fought with taped-up burns and still pushed PAC to the brink.
The Bastard targeted the injuries relentlessly, including a sickening “Indian burn” spot and a catapult that sent Darby ricocheting through the ropes to the floor.

Despite a late rally, PAC used Sting’s bat behind the ref’s back to secure the pin.

Timeless Love Bombs Win Right to Choose Stipulation in Women’s Tag Title Tournament Semifinal

In a four-team sprint featuring the Babes of Wrath, Sisters of Sin, and Marina Shafir & Megan Bayne, the final moments saw Toni Storm and Harley Cameron trading roll-ups.
Storm reversed a small package to take the win, giving the Timeless Love Bombs control over their semifinal stipulation.

FTR Become AEW World Tag Team Champions

In a show-stealing war, FTR dethroned Brodido (Bandido & Brody King) in a match loaded with brutal strikes, crazy dives, illegal belt shots, and more nearfalls than viewers could count.

Bandido survived an absurd amount of punishment, but the final Shatter Machine finally kept him down.

Ricochet Becomes First AEW National Champion

The Casino Gauntlet was chaos from the opening bell. GOA attacked early entrants, Ricochet took out MVP with a mic assault, and alliances constantly formed and shattered.

The final sequence saw Ricochet hit the Spirit Gun on Kevin Knight to claim the inaugural National Championship.

Kyle O’Reilly Forces Jon Moxley to Tap in a Blood-Soaked War

Moxley and O’Reilly tried to murder each other with forks, chains, submissions, and absolutely no restraint.
Mox even hit a Pillmanizer on Kyle’s arm — but KOR refused to quit.

In the end, Kyle wrapped a chain around Moxley’s ankle and forced Mox to tap out, handing him a rare submission loss.
Mox gave a nod of respect… then attacked Kyle again moments later.

Mark Briscoe Wins TNT Championship in Ultra-Violent Classic

If Mark Briscoe lost, he’d have to join the Callis Family — so he came armed with ladders, chairs, tacks, and the spirit of every Delaware backyard brawl.

Fletcher busted Briscoe open early, and both men carved each other up with ladders, screwdrivers, and barbed wire.
After surviving a litany of brainbusters and landing a Razor’s Edge through a barbed wire table, Briscoe finished it with a Jay Driller onto the tacks to win the TNT title.

Bucks Join the Callis Family… Then Don’t

The $1,000,000 six-man saw the Young Bucks & Josh Alexander defeat Jurassic Express & Kenny Omega, thanks to Josh’s vicious ankle lock and the Bucks’ BTE Trigger.

Post-match, Callis revealed the Bucks were now officially part of the Family — until Alexander went after Omega’s leg again.
The Bucks had a crisis of conscience, threw the money down, and helped save their former best friend, ending with a big feel-good reunion hug.

Kris Statlander Retains AEW Women’s World Championship Against Mercedes Moné

Moné spent the whole match dissecting Statlander’s arm and hit FOURTEEN straight suplexes, but Stat wouldn’t quit.

Despite the damage, Statlander powered through and retained via Saturday Night Fever.

Samoa Joe Wins AEW World Championship; Swerve Strickland Returns

In a blood-soaked steel cage main event, Hangman Page and Samoa Joe tore each other apart until the Opps, Shibata, and Eddie Kingston sparked bedlam.

The turning point came when HOOK turned heel, revealed an Opps shirt, and blasted Hangman with the AEW title belt.
Joe hit the Muscle Buster to become AEW World Champion.

As the Opps celebrated, the arena went black — and Swerve Strickland made his return, staring Joe down before wading through the Opps dojo trainees like an action-movie finale.
Finally, Hangman rose and stood beside his old enemy, and the show ended with Swerve and Hangman united against Joe’s monstrous army.

Backstage Update On The Finish To AEW Dynamite/Collision Match After Miscommunication

A bit more clarity has emerged regarding the odd finish to Shelton Benjamin’s match with “Speedball” Mike Bailey during Wednesday night’s special three-hour AEW Dynamite/Collision broadcast from Boston’s Agganis Arena.

The closing stretch left plenty of fans scratching their heads. Benjamin nailed Bailey with a sharp superkick and covered him, only for the referee to abruptly halt the count despite Bailey’s shoulders being flat on the mat. The match rolled on for a few more moments before Benjamin ultimately sealed the win with a German suplex, a knee strike, and another superkick.

Naturally, viewers wondered if Bailey might have been legitimately rocked on the first kick. However, Bryan Alvarez reported that the situation came down to nothing more than an in-ring miscommunication — and no one was hurt.

Per Alvarez, the planned finish was indeed a superkick, and Bailey sold it with a huge flip bump that looked picture-perfect. Benjamin, recognizing how strong the moment came off, called an audible on the fly to end the match right there. The issue? The referee never caught the cue and stopped the count because it didn’t match the layout they’d been given.

Alvarez emphasized that Bailey did nothing wrong and wasn’t injured in the exchange. The blame, if any, falls on the miscommunication between Benjamin and the referee. Once the count was halted, the wrestlers simply reverted to the original closing sequence.

In the end, everyone walked away fine — just another case of live TV wrestling unpredictability creating a bit of confusion in real time.

Tony Khan Provides Insight on Adam Cole’s Absence, Says In-Ring Return Would Require “The Right Situation”

Adam Cole’s status has been one of the bigger question marks in AEW over the past several months, and Tony Khan has now offered a clearer—though still cautious—update on where things stand.

Cole has been away since AEW All In: Texas, where he vacated the TNT Championship after informing Khan he wasn’t well enough to compete. Reports since then have suggested his latest setback is tied to concussion-related issues, adding another layer to a long road of injuries that already included the serious ankle injury that sidelined him for over a year.

During a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Khan opened up about the situation and made it clear that Cole’s health is the priority. According to the AEW President, getting the call on the morning of All In was “incredibly difficult,” especially given how hard Cole had battled back from previous injuries to rebuild momentum in 2025 and reclaim a top spot as TNT Champion.

Khan emphasized that Cole’s ankle injury alone could have ended his career, noting the pain and recovery process were far more serious than many realized. Cole’s comeback had been one of the more inspiring stories in AEW before this latest setback forced him to step away again.

As for an eventual return to the ring? Khan didn’t shut the door, but he made it clear that AEW will only consider it if every factor—medically and situationally—lines up. He expressed that Cole will always have a place within the company, even if wrestling isn’t in the immediate picture. Cole has already contributed as a commentator and show host, and Khan believes those avenues remain open whenever Cole feels ready to resume regular work.

Khan stressed that anything involving head injuries has to be treated with caution, and AEW would only move forward if it can ensure the safest possible environment for Cole and everyone involved.

For now, the message is simple: Adam Cole’s health comes first, and AEW is leaving the door open—but not rushing anything.

AEW’s Rebel Reveals Lung Cancer Diagnosis, Shares Health Battle With Fans

AEW personality Rebel (Tanea Brooks) has shared heartbreaking news with fans, announcing on social media that she’s been diagnosed with primary pulmonary lymphoma, a rare form of lung cancer. According to Rebel, what doctors initially believed was a severe case of pneumonia last year turned out to be cancer that had gone undetected.

On top of the diagnosis, Rebel revealed she is also dealing with a neurological condition that has impacted her speech and mobility. She’s preparing to begin rehab soon and is determined to fight both the cancer and the ongoing neurological issues head-on.

Rebel has been absent from AEW programming since early 2023, and while her on-screen presence has been missed, the wrestling community is already rallying behind her. Fans and peers alike have flooded social media with support, encouragement, and well-wishes as she begins her treatment journey.

Backstage Update On AEW Stars After Brutal Blood & Guts

AEW’s annual Blood & Guts spectacle has come and gone, and as expected, the double-cage war left its mark on everyone involved. With shattered glass, broken mirrors, and enough bloodshed to fill an arena, fans naturally wondered just how banged up the roster was after Wednesday’s chaos in Greensboro.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, the overall verdict is a lot more positive than you might expect.

Women’s Blood & Guts: Banged Up, But Battling Through

Jamie Hayter walked out of the cage bruised and beaten, reportedly even chipping some teeth during the match. Still, one AEW source told Fightful she was “as badass as you’d expect,” which shouldn’t surprise anyone who saw the former Women’s Champion throw herself into the violence.

Skye Blue arguably had the roughest night visually—entering first for her team and wearing a 45-minute crimson mask—but despite being the bloodiest competitor on the card, she was said to be completely fine once she got backstage.

Men’s Blood & Guts: No Major Injuries Reported

As of Fightful’s report, AEW hadn’t provided specifics on the condition of the men’s teams, but the early indication is that no serious injuries occurred—a minor miracle considering the carnage that typically comes with Blood & Guts.

Hangman vs. Hobbs Also Escapes Injury Scare

The night’s lone non–Blood & Guts bout—a wild Falls Count Anywhere fight between Hangman Page and Powerhouse Hobbs—also wrapped without any major medical issues. AEW sources described both men as “sore,” but everything reportedly went exactly as planned.

A Thinner Roster Behind the Scenes

Interestingly, AEW had fewer roster members on hand than usual. With only three matches booked and AEW Collision set to air live this Saturday, the company traveled with a smaller crew—making the overall lack of injuries even more fortunate.

For a show built on violence and risk, AEW’s latest Blood & Guts may go down as one of the safer entries in the history of the match—at least in terms of long-term damage. The visuals were brutal, but behind the curtain, it sounds like the roster made it through the war in surprisingly good shape.
