Cody Rhodes Says There Could Be A Third Hour Of AEW Content On Wednesday Nights

AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes spoke with IGN about All Elite Wrestling’s upcoming debut on TNT. The show will premiere on Wednesday, October 2 from 8-10 pm ET.

During the interview, Rhodes revealed that a third hour of content could be filmed each week that won’t air on TNT, but rather B/R Live. Since the company plans on rotating talent on and off TNT each week, they want to make sure they are still keeping the wrestlers engaged with their audience.

“It will probably live for people to stream on B/R Live,” Rhodes said. “We have a lot of resources and we want to make sure that people can plug into the wrestlers who we signed who they’re fans of. We’re going to try and keep everybody busy.”

Yesterday, NXT began its run on the USA Network, transforming into a live two-hour, weekly show to go head-to-head with AEW. This week—in select markets—AEW ran commercials during both SmackDown and last night’s NXT.

As noted earlier this week, per the Xfinity TV guide, AEW’s weekly show will be called “All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite.”

AEW Commercials Air During WWE TV This Week (Videos)

It looks like AEW purchased commercial time during WWE NXT and WWE SmackDown this week.

Fans on Twitter noted that they saw commercials for AEW on TNT during Tuesday’s SmackDown and during tonight’s NXT premiere on the USA Network.

The commercials aired in various markets, and it looks like DirecTV was the main provider.

You can see a few of the AEW ads on WWE TV below:

AEW TNT TV Show Name To Be “Dynamite” According To TV Listings

As noted on Tuesday, AEW recently filed to trademark the “All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite” name, which looks to be the official name of their weekly TNT TV show.

Possible Name For AEW’s Weekly TV Show

It looks like the name of AEW’s weekly TNT TV show may be called “All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite.”

AEW filed to trademark “All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite” on September 12, for various uses from pro wrestling to merchandise.

As we’ve noted, AEW previously registered “Tuesday Night Dynamite” and “Wednesday Night Dynamite”, fueling speculation on those being the names.

AEW will premiere on TNT live from 8-10pm ET on Wednesday, October 2 from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. Below is the current line-up for that show:

* Jon Moxley appears live

* Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara

AEW Allowing Fans To Pick The Final AEW World Tag Team Titles Tournament Spot

AEW is calling on fans to vote for which team will receive the final spot in the tournament to crown the first-ever AEW World Tag Team Champions.

The options are the team of Jungleboy and Luchasaurus or the team of Angelico and Jack Evans.

As of this writing at 12:45pm ET on Friday, the poll has 8,937 votes and 85% have voted for Jungleboy and Luchasaurus.

The Best Friends previously defeated SoCal Uncensored and Private Party in a Triple Threat at AEW Fyter Fest to advance to All Out for a chance at a first round bye in the tournament. The Dark Order then defeated Jungleboy and Luchasaurus plus Evans and Angelico in a Triple Threat at Fight for the Fallen, for a chance to face The Best Friends at All Out. The Dark Order then defeated The Best Friends at All Out to earn the first round bye.

The first match of the tournament was announced for the second AEW TNT episode from Boston on Wednesday, October 9 – The Young Bucks vs. Private Party. The semi-finals of the tournament will take place on the fourth AEW TNT episode from Pittsburgh, and then the first-ever AEW World Tag Team Champions will be crowned with the finals on the fifth AEW TNT episode on October 30 from Charleston, WV.

AEW has not confirmed any other tag teams for the tournament as of this writing.

Below are the tweets for the poll on the final tournament spot and as you might imagine, AEW is already receiving a lot of negative feedback on how the spot is being determined.

AEW To Air Another Preview Special On TNT

The current plan for AEW’s next TV show on TNT is to air a preview show on Tuesday, October 1, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

This Tuesday night preview show would air to build to the premiere of the weekly AEW TNT series the next night, live from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. That Wednesday night premiere is scheduled to feature an appearance by Jon Moxley, Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara, Nyla Rose vs. Riho to crown the first-ever AEW Women’s Champion, plus The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega vs. AEW World Champion Chris Jericho and two mystery partners.

The idea is that the preview show will air at 8pm ET on October 1, which would be the first Tuesday night that SmackDown isn’t on the USA Network. The last SmackDown Tuesday episode will air on September 24, and the next episode will be the Fox premiere on Friday, October 4.

The Tuesday, October 1 preview special has not been officially announced, but has been scheduled for some time. The first AEW program on TNT was the “Countdown to All Out” preview special that aired the night before the recent All Out pay-per-view, and that special was not announced until the day before it aired. As noted, that one-hour All Out preview special drew 390,000 viewers and ranked #29 in the Cable Top 150 18-49 demographic.

There’s still no word yet on the name of the weekly AEW TNT show, but it should be announced soon. It’s believed that “Tuesday Night Dynamite” was trademarked as the name of the show back when the idea was that AEW would air their weekly show in the 8-10pm ET timeslot on Tuesday nights, which currently belongs to SmackDown, beginning the first week of October when SmackDown moved to Fox Friday nights. That plan didn’t work out because of TNT’s commitments with the NBA on Tuesday nights. AEW also trademarked the “Wednesday Night Dynamite” name but that has not been confirmed as the name of the weekly TNT series.

AEW’s Show On TNT Will Reportedly Be TV-14

AEW has sent out information to cable providers for their debut show on October 2nd, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

It was noted that the show is rated TV-14 and not TV-PG, like WWE programming. According to The Observer, TNT had made the decision awhile to have the show be TV-14. While TNT and AEW have agreed to produce a more edgy show than WWE, TNT provided them specific rules regarding what lines they can’t cross.

The show was also categorized as “sports event” as opposed to “entertainment.”

AEW has yet to officially announce the name of the show, however AEW President told Wrestling Inc. at All Out this past Saturday that it will not be simply called “All Elite Wrestling.”

“It is not going to be called ‘All Elite Wrestling’ because I think it would be confusing between the company and the name of the show,” Khan said.

AEW debuts on TNT on Wednesday, October 2nd.

Chris Jericho To Defend AEW World Title Against Cody Rhodes At AEW Full Gear

Chris Jericho will face-off against Cody Rhodes at Full Gear and AEW President Tony Khan says the challenger earned the opportunity due to his win-loss record.

Sports Ilustrated broke the news for AEW, with Khan telling the publication:

“Cody’s outstanding record in singles competition has secured him the number one contender ranking, and he will be challenging AEW world champion Chris Jericho in the first ever pay-per-view defense of the championship on November 9 in Baltimore at Full Gear.”

“Cody earned this opportunity over the summer as he remained unbeaten in singles bouts, scoring pins on a pair of proven veterans, defeating his older brother, the legendary wrestler Dustin Rhodes at Double or Nothing, and beating bitter rival and former partner Shawn Spears at All Out—and battling to a draw with the exciting upstart Darby Allin at Fyter Fest.”

AEW execs have heavily stressed that the promotion will focus on wins and losses mattering. This is the first indication of how that will play a part going forward.

“Full Gear” will also feature Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega.

That’s not because of any law enforcement that was too busy posting pictures on Twitter and deleting them and then posting them again or a funny meme or a funny GIF, it was because of me.”

He also shared on Instagram, “In celebration of my recovery of the #AEW championship, I’m releasing this #ALittleBitOfTheBubbly T-shirt…which I’ve been told is the most highly requested item in @prowrestlingtees history.! #YoureWelcome shopaew.com”
