Backstage Notes On The Elite’s Return, Usage Of New Theme Song, Kansas Reacts To The Elite Using Their Song

As noted, The Elite (the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega) made their in-ring return Saturday night at AEW Full Gear, losing a match to Death Triangle for the AEW Trios Championships. The Elite came out to Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son” for their entrance theme. A report by Dave Meltzer from F4WOnline.com has more details on The Elite’s return, and the use of their new theme song.

According to the report, the plan is for The Elite to use “Carry On Wayward Son” as their entrance music specifically for trios matches. They won’t be using the song for regular tag team or singles matches. The Young Bucks have reportedly been looking to use the song for a long time, since the Bucks and their dad are big fans of the song. Previously, the Bucks used the song as entrance music when taking part in backyard wrestling as teenagers.

The use of the song reportedly did not have anything to do with the recent situation between The Elite and CM Punk. As many fans know, The Elite were suspended following the backstage incident that took place at All Out in September. The suspension for The Elite was lifted after the conclusion of an investigation into the incident. While The Elite were said to be aware that people think the two ideas are related, that’s said to not be the case, and they’ve wanted to use the song for a while.

Additionally, even though Saturday night’s match was contested for the Trios titles, that won’t be the case for all of the subsequent matches in their best-of-seven series with Death Triangle. The Elite can only win the titles outright if they win four matches in the best-of-seven series.

The band Kansas took to Twitter following AEW Full Gear to comment on The Elite using their “Carry On Wayward Son” song for their entrance at AEW Full Gear. You can check out their reaction below:

Tony Khan Provides Updates On Hangman Page, Adam Cole, Miro, & Andrade El Idolo

AEW President Tony Khan provided several updates on Miro, Andrade El Idolo, Hangman Page & Adam Cole during the post-AEW All Out media scrum.

As many of you are aware, both Cole and Page are out with concussions, while Miro and El Idolo have been off TV in recent months.

You can check out some highlights from the media scrum below:

On when Miro and Anrade El Idolo may return: “I think when we launched AEW, one thing I said was that we would build a big roster, and we would kind of have it be where I wasn’t really committing to everybody necessarily working every single week, or even possibly working people in and out of the cards. And I think that’s still something I’m committed to. So there’s people who aren’t on every event, but I would still like to get involved. And you know, you’ve seen people take some sabbaticals, absences, breaks from AEW for various reasons, come back and get very involved. And I think that’s still for both of those guys, potentially something that you could see.

“There are different reasons, I think they’re different [situations]. They’re apples and oranges in some ways, but I also think both of them are great, and I would like to get both of them involved in the future.”

On Adam Cole and Hangman Page’s statuses: “Well, I’ve been in contact with both of them. They’re both doing very well. I think again, they’re different situations. But for both of them, I think I’m optimistic we’d get both both of them back. But I can’t say when either of them would be exactly. But I do think they will both very well received and I there’s a lot of fans looking forward to both of the Adams returning. I think Hangman Page and Adam Cole would have a big reception on their return. The most important thing is, they’re both doing really well.”

Captain Insano Makes Cameo On AEW Dynamite

The Acclaimed had announced “a special guest” would appear in their music video airing on the 11/16 “AEW Dynamite,” and the AEW World Tag Team Champions did not disappoint. For the first time in over two decades, Captain Insano, the fictional pro wrestler portrayed by Paul Wight in the 1998 Adam Sandler movie “The Waterboy,” made a cameo on a wrestling program, and fans on social media loved every second of it.

The video titled “A Hand for A Hand” recreated a scene from “The Waterboy,” where Sandler’s character of Bobby Boucher is mocked when he calls into a live interview segment with Captain Insano, his favorite pro wrestler. Similarly, Anthony Bowens and Max Caster were shown interviewing Insano backstage when they receive a call from parodies of Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland, who proceed to inquire with Insano if they had a shot at reclaiming the AEW World Tag Team titles at Full Gear. In response to Swerve in Our Glory’s question, the trio of Bowens, Caster and Insano began laughing as they mocked the actors depicting Strickland and Lee.

Soon after the video dropped, Bowens shared a backstage photo of The Acclaimed posing with Captain Insano, as seen below.

Wight had previously teased introducing the character to AEW TV, especially after the promotion filed for the Captain Insano trademark in March 2021. In a subsequent interview with Wrestling Inc., Wight noted he just “wanted to have fun” with the character, but did hint at the possibility of wrestling a match as Captain Insano. In September, AEW President Tony Khan teased the likelihood of Captain Insano showing up at Arthur Ashe Stadium for “AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam,” but there was obviously no sighting of Wight or Captain Insano in Queens, NY.

It remains to be seen if Captain Insano gets involved in some capacity during The Acclaimed’s title defense against Swerve In Our Glory this Saturday at the Full Gear pay-per-view.

The Young Bucks Abandon ‘Wayward Sons’ Trademark

On November 14, the Young Bucks abandoned the ‘Wayward Sons’ trademark they previously applied for. As of this writing, it’s unknown what they would have used it for.

The initial filing was for specific merchandise and the general use a wrestler would want to have if using a term for a character or moniker (“Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibits and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer,” etc.).

The only possible connection, albeit a bit of a reach, was for the Bucks saying on an April 2021 BTE episode that they wanted to come out to Kansas’ “Carry On Wayward Son” for the House Always Win house show.

The Elite Returning At AEW Full Gear

Its official — The Elite will be making their return to AEW at Full Gear when they challenge Death Triangle for the AEW World Trios Championships. This comes on the heels of Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks being away from the company for an extended period of time following their post-All Out backstage altercation with CM Punk. As a result, the Trios Titles, which The Elite had just won at All Out, were vacated.

While the Young Bucks did not show their faces on-screen at last night’s “AEW Dynamite, according to Fightful Select, they were indeed backstage though. Death Triangle instead passively hinted at meeting The Elite this Saturday at the pay-per-view with a new graphic popping up to reveal Death Triangle vs. The Elite as officially signed. The plan all along, since the backstage waters have calmed some, has been for The Elite to come back at Full Gear and not before, despite their presence backstage Wednesday.

Speaking of backstage presences, Kenny Omega’s right-hand man Don Callis has been making his felt behind the scenes on several different occasions over the last several weeks. He’s expected to accompany Omega once again upon his return, as has become the norm over the years. Omega had only just recently returned to action in the weeks leading up to All Out, joining the Bucks to enter the brackets of the AEW World Trios Championship tournament, after being sidelined to treat a series of major injuries he had sustained over the years.

Chris Jericho Unmasked On The Masked Singer

AEW star Chris Jericho was revealed as Bride – the giant pink dragon wearing a white bridal gown – on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer” on FOX.

Fans on social media had suggested that Bride’s voice resembled that of the ROH World Champion, especially after “The Masked Singer” contestant dropped ample clues that they were either a pro wrestler and/or rockstar. Some of the clues included Bride talking about living “on the road selling out arenas” and having a reputation for “being in some of the messiest feuds.”

On Wednesday’s show, Bride was the first contestant to be eliminated by virtue of receiving the fewest votes. Prior to the big unveiling, some of the panel members had thrown out names such as Flea, Matthew McConaughey and David Arquette while guessing the identity of Bride.

Following his elimination, Jericho spoke to Lauren Huff of EW to explain why he was upset to leave the show.

“Honestly, I was pissed,” Jericho said. “I was not happy. And it was the studio audience votes that got it. And I was like, ‘This is why you never let the fans be in charge.’ [Laughs] Because I thought my performance was killer. And it was one of those things where there were other songs that had been rehearsed, and all that sort of thing. So it was something that I was kind of angry about, but that’s just because I’m a professional and I don’t like to lose. It was a lot of fun, to be honest with you.”

Jericho would also float the possibility of Bride returning to the reality singing competition down the road..

Besides Jericho, other notable celebrities appearing in Season 8 of “The Masked Singer” include William Shatner, Le’Veon Bell, George Foreman, Jerry Springer and Montell Jordan.

Jericho will defend his ROH World Championship in a four-way match against Sammy Guevera, Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli this Saturday at Full Gear.
