Jeff Jarrett Reflects On Wrestling AEW Match After Father Jerry’s Death

AEW’s Jeff Jarrett is remaining positive, even after the recent passing of his father, legendary wrestling promoter Jerry Jarrett.

The older Jarrett died on February 14, aged 80, and tributes have been paid to him by several wrestlers and companies.

A day after his father’s passing, Jeff Jarrett competed on AEW Dynamite and was on the losing end of a ten-man tag-team match.

Reflecting on his father’s passing during the latest edition of his My World podcast, Double-J reflected on a mixed couple of weeks for him. He said,

“What a wonderful wacky life experience, really over the last two weeks. The ups and downs of life and sometimes the lows are unexpected but look, out of every low, something good comes out of it.”

Jarrett added that he knows it was right for him to wrestle so quickly after his father’s death as it helped serve as a coping mechanism.

Speaking about the tributes to his father, Jeff said he wishes Jerry was able to hear the kind words from the likes of The Rock, ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, and others. He added,

“I just wish my dad could have heard, that’s the one thing that does get me emotional, I wish he could have heard all those kind words that were said.”

Jarrett, who also operates as AEW’s Director of Business Development, said that there will be an episode of his podcast that discusses his father’s career and legacy in due time.

Update On Kenny Omega’s AEW Contract Status

Kenny Omega has been pushed as a top star since helping launch AEW in 2019.

His future with the company is unclear as his deal with AEW is going to be up in the near future and WWE is reportedly interested in signing him.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Omega’s deal would’ve been up in January, but since AEW has decided to add time to it due to the time he missed in 2022 because of various injuries, Omega will remain with the promotion for most of 2023.

“Omega’s AEW contract date was to have expired at the end of January as he had a four-year deal with no option clause to add time that started on February 1, 2019. His contract does allow AEW to extend it for the time he was out injured, which has happened. He was out nine months so that would be a maximum of November but the extended time frame hasn’t been finalized as far as how long,” Meltzer wrote.

TBS Orders Its First New Unscripted Series of 2023 With the Greenlight of “AEW: All Access”
TBS has greenlit its first new unscripted series of 2023, further expanding its All Elite Wrestling franchise with “AEW: All Access” – a follow-doc from the perspectives of the league’s biggest stars. The new series, which was just announced during another red-hot episode of TBS’ “AEW: Dynamite,” is slated to premiere this March.

Billed as the ultimate behind-the-scenes experience for fans, the series will feature Adam Cole, Dr. Britt Baker, Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti, The Young Bucks, Saraya, Wardlow, and Eddie Kingston along with AEW CEO, GM and Head of Creative Tony Khan.

Each episode will showcase AEW’s stars as they navigate the week-to-week challenges to remain at the top, and will track the rivalries between talent as they vie for fans’ attention. Over the course of the series, viewers will get the chance to follow the contentious lead-up to AEW’s major wrestling events and matches. “AEW: All Access” will complement TBS and TNT’s portfolio of top-rated wrestling content, including “AEW: Dynamite” and “AEW: Rampage” respectively.

“AEW has such an amazingly loyal and dedicated fan base that brings in more than 4 million viewers to TBS every Wednesday night,” said Jason Sarlanis, President, Turner Networks, ID, & HLN. Linear and Streaming. “With ‘All Access,’ we are bringing that incredible audience a whole new way to experience the wrestling universe they love. We have a powerful partnership with Tony Khan and AEW. With this new series we are expanding the franchise in a way that invites viewers inside the world of wrestling like never before.”

“We’re always looking for new ways to engage with fans and give them unique access to our incredible talent. With the new ‘AEW: All Access’ series, they’ll have a chance to peek behind the curtain and into the lives of their favorite wrestlers like never before,” said Tony Khan. “To show the human side of some of these larger-than-life figures will give fans a rare perspective about who these wrestlers are when the cameras aren’t typically on.”

From Warner Bros. Unscripted Television, “AEW: All Access” is produced by Shed Media in association with AEW and Activist Artists Management. Executive producers are Tony Khan, Dan Peirson, Lisa Shannon, Sam Berns, Alan Bloom, Bernie Cahill and Jon Kanak.

Backstage News On Female Talent Meeting Following Thunder Rosa’s Return To AEW

A talent meeting was called for the female locker room in AEW recently with the goal being to bury the hatchet among a number of wrestlers as Thunder Rosa gets set to make her return to the company.

Fightful Select reports that a backstage summit occurred at the February 8 “Dynamite” to repair some of the damage done last year between Rosa and other members of the roster. Those women who were present at the tapings participated. Thunder Rosa did work the tapings as well, providing Spanish commentary for the El Paso shows, as she continues to recover from injury. That injury forced her to vacate the AEW Women’s Championship after she had won it from Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. last March.

Sources claim that Rosa attempted to mend a lot of fences during the conference, as it relates back to a number of issues that arose prior to her being sidelined. Previous problems were raised about working stiff and sandbagging, in addition to the legitimacy of her injury being questioned. Rosa appears to have addressed all of the concerns, and the meeting was said to have been productive — perhaps a “clean slate” moving forward.

Thunder Rosa has been inching closer and closer to returning to the ring. However, she has still not been cleared yet. In the meantime, she will be returning to the road soon. It also appears her role on Spanish commentary will continue in the immediate future, as she enjoyed it, at least until she’s ready to step back between the ropes.

Christian Cage Returns From Injury On AEW Dynamite

On last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, Christian Cage returned from injury and attacked “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry. This reignited their feud which began in June 2022 when Luchasaurus turned his back on Perry after they lost the AEW World Tag Team Championships.

No sooner had Perry just defeated Brian Cage in a singles match, Cage appeared on the entranceway and sprayed him with mace. Cage then removed his arm sling and elbow brace to nail Perry with the Killswitch on the stage.

The attack shows that Cage is now cleared to compete again after suffering an upper-body injury last summer.

Backstage News On Whether There’s Been Any ‘Mending Of Fences’ Between CM Punk And AEW

Fans hoping for CM Punk to make his return to AEW television soon should know that there is reportedly much work left to be done. Dave Meltzer offered an update regarding the fallout of “Brawl Out” on the latest episode of “Wrestling Observer Radio.” “There was a lot of damage done that night,” Meltzer said, acknowledging that many want Punk to come back because the ratings for AEW have been flat as of late. Meltzer previously reported that Chris Jericho was pushing for Punk to not come back, but the ball remains in the court of AEW owner Tony Khan.

“Tony’s gonna do what Tony’s gonna do and I don’t know what that’s going to be. … There’s a lot of damage there to the brand. It wasn’t just like he yelled at The Young Bucks. It was the brand. I mean he basically said that AEW is second-rate,” Meltzer added, having been in attendance for Punk’s infamous post-All Out press conference. According to Meltzer, there are bridges that haven’t been crossed yet between the two parties.

“There’s a lot of mending of fences that need to be done and there’s been no mending of fences at all,” he said. “Punk could be back in two months and then there’s a decision of how that goes. That’s going to be a big story of how that goes down or how it doesn’t go down.” Punk happened to tear his tricep that night while defeating Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship, and hasn’t been seen in AEW since. Without Punk appearing for AEW, ratings for “AEW Dynamite” have plateaued below a million viewers and viewership for “AEW Rampage” has nosedived.
