WWE NXT Airs Mysterious Vignette For What Appears To Be A Former Champion

A mysterious vignette aired on WWE NXT Wednesday night for what appears to be a former champion.

The video began with night vision footage of someone walking through a backstage warehouse towards a glass case holding old versions of the NXT title belt inside.

“I’m not sure what happened.  I helped create something out of my own blood,” a distorted voice said over the footage. “Years and years of dedication, only to be taken over by paper champions. These NXT Championships have been in isolation for far too long. Now, I’ve come back to take what is mine.”

The person then breaks the glass case and grabs one of the belts before the video ends teasing the date of NXT TakeOver on October 4.

The only two former NXT champions who are still in the company, but not doing anything on television at the moment are Bo Dallas and Bobby Roode.

WWE NXT will return to its normal timeslot on the USA Network tonight, with a loaded line-up topped off by Finn Balor’s return to the show as NXT Champion.

The Rock’s Daughter Simone Johnson To Undergo Surgery

WWE Performance Center talent Simone Johnson announced she’ll be having knee surgery for a third time today.

“So, tomorrow I’m having knee surgery for the third time,” Johnson wrote. “As not fun as surgery is, I’m looking forward to my knees not popping out anymore. That said, please send me video games suggestions, movie suggestions (preferably scary) or anything else to help pass the time.”

Johnson, the daughter of The Rock, signed with WWE back in February and reported to train at the WWE PC since her signing.

She has yet to debut on NXT, but did make multiple appearances in the crowd at the WWE PC and Full Sail when WWE was not allowing fans in for shows.

WWE NXT Super Tuesday II will air live tonight on the USA Network from the NXT Arena on the campus of Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL.

* Adam Cole vs. Finn Balor for the vacant NXT Title opens the show

Mauro Ranallo Confirms He’s Leaving NXT, Statement From WWE

NXT announcer Mauro Ranallo and WWE have confirmed he’s leaving the company.

Ranallo shared a statement on Facebook saying:

“I appreciate the opportunity I had to realize my childhood dream of working in sports entertainment, and I wish WWE well in the future. Now I want to direct my focus and devote my time to my other projects and to my mental health charitable activities and the well-being of my mother and myself.”

WWE released the following statement in regards to Mauro’s exit:

“WWE and Mauro Ranallo have mutually and amicably agreed to part ways. Mauro’s passion and enthusiasm left an indelible and exciting mark with WWE and its fans, and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Ranallo had been doing commentary for NXT remotely from home during the pandemic. He was not part of TakeOver, however, and the last 2 episodes of NXT, Wade Barrett was featured on commentary alongside Vic Joseph. Barrett is now reportedly in talks to join the show full-time.

Wade Barrett Returns To WWE NXT, Reveals Another Appearance Next Week (Video)

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett made his return to the company during tonight’s WWE NXT episode.

Barrett did guest commentary at the NXT Arena on the campus of Full Sail University, along with Vic Joseph. WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix joined them from home as she has done during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Barrett announced that he will be back at the NXT announce table for the NXT Super Tuesday episode next week, which is airing on Tuesday night due to the NHL playoffs on the USA Network.

Below is video of Barrett settling into the announce table with Joseph before tonight’s episode hit the air.

Barrett first signed a WWE developmental deal in 2007 and left the company in May 2016 after deciding to let his contract expire. Barrett has focused on his acting career since leaving WWE and has done little work in the world of pro wrestling, but he did do some commentary work for the NWA earlier this year after debuting in December.

There’s no word yet on what WWE has planned for Barrett after next Tuesday’s show.

Karrion Kross Relinquishes NXT Title Due To Injury

Karrion Kross has relinquished the NXT Championship due to injury.

As we previously reported, Kross suffered a separated shoulder on Saturday during the NXT title match against Keith Lee at TakeOver: XXX.

Tonight’s edition of NXT kicked off with Kross, in a sling, coming to the ring with Scarlett. Karrion confirmed he suffered an injury and said he’s realist who understands the reality of the situation in that WWE officials would not let him defend the title while injured.

“On the path there are obstacles, but for me, the obstacles are the path,” he said before putting the NXT Championship on the ground next to an hourglass and walking to the back.

General Manager William Regal appeared later in the show and said that in order to crown a new champion, there will be a four-way match next Tuesday between former NXT champions who could all be the face of the brand again: Johnny Gargano, Tommaso Ciampa, Finn Balor and Adam Cole.

He then announced it would also be a sixty-minute Iron Man match.

– After the match, the music hits as Shirai stands tall and celebrates. Gonzalez suddenly attacks from behind. The music interrupts and out comes Rhea Ripley. Ripley hits the ring and faces off with Gonzalez. They stare each other down, face to face now. Gonzalez backs off a bit but Ripley gets right back in her face. Kai gets back to her feet and gets Gonzalez to leave the ring with her. Ripley is still staring Gonzalez down as she backs up the ramp with Kai. Shirai’s music starts back up as she stands tall in the ring with the belt, facing the camera while Ripley stands with her back to her, still staring Gonzalez down. We go to replays from the match. Ripley is now standing tall on the ramp, staring back at Shirai in the ring.
