ROH announced the full schedule for G1 Supercard Festival of Honor, When Is Flip Gordon Returning?

ROH announced the full schedule for G1 Supercard Festival of Honor (seen here) featuring numerous meet and greets, Q&As, and a press conference. Individual tickets for meet and greets go on sale March 21 at 12 pm ET.

Flip Gordon will be making his return to an ROH ring on March 31 at Road to G1 Supercard in Baltimore, Maryland. Gordon has been out since January with a torn MCL in his right knee. Gordon was never expected to miss the G1 Supercard, although he doesn’t currently have a match on the event.

ROH Star Flip Gordon Has Been Cleared To Return To The Ring

ROH wrestler Flip Gordon has officially been cleared to compete after recovering from a knee injury that left him sidelined for over two months.

Gordon took to Twitter to make the announcement and wrote, “UPDATE: I just saw the doctor, I passed all the tests, and I am officially CLEARED to WRESTLE!!!”

As we previously reported, the injury occurred back in January during a match against Tracy Williams at Honor Reigns Supreme that was stopped early.

ROH Confirms Big Title Match For G1 Supercard At MSG

The video below is from this past weekend’s ROH TV tapings at Las Vegas featuring ROH World Champion Jay Lethal, Marty Scurll, and Matt Taven. Scurll is currently the number one contender, thanks to winning last year’s Survival of the Fittest tournament. Taven and Lethal went to a 60-minute time limit draw for the title at 17th Anniversary PPV.

Lethal felt both men deserved a shot at G1 Supercard, but wanted to up the ante a bit more by making it a Triple Threat Ladder Match for the ROH World Championship.

Also teased for the event, but not yet officially announced by ROH: World TV Champion Jeff Cobb vs. NEVER Openweight Champion Will Ospreay (Title vs. Title), and Dalton Castle vs. Rush.

Update: ROH officials confirmed that RUSH vs. Dalton Castle will go down at G1 Supercard. The challenge was laid out at ROH 17th Anniversary Show this past Friday after RUSH picked up a victory over Bandido.

Below is the updated announced card:

* Jay White (c) vs. New Japan Cup 2019 Winner (IWGP Heavyweight Championship)

* Jay Lethal (c) vs. Marty Scurll vs. Matt Taven (Ladder Match for the ROH World Championship)

* ROH World Tag Team Champions PCO & Brody King vs. IWGP Tag Team Champions Guerrillas of Destiny (Titles vs. Titles Match)

* Taiji Ishimori (c) vs. Dragon Lee vs. Bandido (IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship)

* Bully Ray vs. TBA

* RUSH vs. Dalton Castle

* Honor Rumble (Pre-Show)

Update: ROH officials confirmed that RUSH vs. Dalton Castle will go down at G1 Supercard. The challenge was laid out at ROH 17th Anniversary Show this past Friday after RUSH picked up a victory over Bandido.

Post-match, Marty Scurll heads to the ring, picks up the title and puts it around his shoulder. Scurll then heads up the ramp and to the back with it. Taven and Lethal finally get to their feet, Taven doesn’t shake Lethal’s hand and goes to the back.

Rapper, Mega Ran, performs “Going to the Garden.” Bully Ray ends up coming out to the ring, says he thought the song sucks and rips on Mega Ran. Bully makes fun of video games and says Mega Ran probably played wrestling video games, and picked his character, Bubba Ray. Mega Ran says he actually picked D-Von. Bully shoves both guys and kicks them out of the ring. Bully is offended by his song and says he’s the only one who’s actually wrestled at MSG. Bully picks on some kids, says he’s going to slap them if they don’t go sit down. “They’re just kids!” chant from the crowd. He says nobody can stand up to him at the garden. Crowd with a “Flip” chant, Bully shuts that down and then says he offers up an open challenge to anyone in the world, any company, anyone retired or still wrestling in a street fight.

Bandido vs. Rush – Winner: Rush

Post-match, Dalton Castle heads into the ring to get a closer look at Rush. On the mic, Castle says Rush is a good challenge for him and wonders if they could get in the ring at Madison Square Garden. Rush wonders who Castle is and cuts a promo in English and Spanish, sounds like he accepted before heading to the back.

TK O’Ryan and Vinny Marseglia vs. Mark Haskins and Tracy Williams won’t take place. Also, Jonathan Gresham took a chairshot to the knee when trying to save Lethal. Silas Young, who was scheduled to face Gresham, also attacked Gresham backstage, so that match won’t take place either. Young  joined commentary for the main event.

Tenille Dashwood’s ROH Contract Expiring Soon

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Tenille Dashwood could soon become a free agent as her Ring of Honor contract expires at the end of the month.

Sources close to the situation say Tenille is currently in negotiations with Ring of Honor to potentially ink a new contract, but as of this week nothing has been signed. That means her upcoming appearances in Las Vegas could be her last with the company.

Dashwood signed on to join the Women of Honor in February 2018.

Tenille — formerly known as Emma in WWE — started in-ring training recently to prepare for her return after undergoing shoulder surgery months back. If she re-signs with ROH, we’re told Dashwood’s in-ring return could take place at G1 Supercard.

Madison Rayne Departs From ROH

Madison Rayne has received her release from Ring of Honor, according to PWInsider.

Rayne was reportedly unhappy with her creative direction and met with ROH to discuss the situation. The two sides decided to part ways, it was considered an amicable parting and Rayne is free to wrestle for any promotions going forward.

Rayne initially signed a one-year deal with ROH last September after having a successful run as a free agent in 2018.

Last year, the former Impact Knockouts Champion would work for WWE (Mae Young Classic), Impact Wrestling, ROH, and at “All In.”

Could There Be A Ring Of Honor Television Channel One Day?

When looking at areas of growth for Ring of Honor, one has to look at its parent company, Sinclair Broadcasting Group (SBG). Just as an example, this week came the announcement of Sinclair partnering with the Chicago Cubs on a new station, Marquee Sports Network.

One area that Sinclair has been especially aggressive in creating or partnering in developing are digital-tier stations. While some digital-tier stations are creating original programming, like Bounce TV, most are programmed cheaply with re-run programming, with a focus on one particular genre or target market such as “action” or “horror”.

As a wrestling fan, you’d be familiar with many of these stations such as Comet TV, Charge!, TBD and Stadium, as some of those networks have aired Ring of Honor. The primary method of finding these stations is through a television antenna. Most are in a low profile position right now, as one would literally need to seek out the station in order to find it.

Currently, the number of digital stations that each network could carry is limited. At the moment, many networks have 3 or 4 digital sub-channels per network. Sinclair has been investing in a technology called ATSC 3.0 and is now planning to launch in 26 markets. Sinclair executives hope this will be a new broadcast standard. If ATSC 3.0 does becomes widely used, a network can increase digital-sub channels from the current 3 or 4 to 20.

With most of its sub-channels, Sinclair has to split the revenue with the content providers (such as MGM). All of that leads us to Ring of Honor.

With the ability to create and program new digital-tier networks, ROH would fit nicely as a stand-alone network. With SBG already owning the rights to about 17 years of pro wrestling content, it could fill up a 24 hour pro wrestling network schedule with limited time spent to prepare the programming for broadcast. One could speculate that most content created after SBG acquired ROH would be ready to be programmed into the station. Pre-SBG ROH would need editing of music rights and possible programming that wouldn’t be appropriate for broadcast.

Utilizing a signal that Sinclair owns with content that Sinclair owns is a low risk free endeavor for Sinclair. The channel would likely be turn-key: no live specials and no fancy editing. In programming the channel, SBG could get off to a good start with themed nights for the first week. Imagine a launch week of nights featuring Tommaso Ciampa, Daniel Bryan, Tyler Black, Kevin Steen and AJ Styles?

Shane Helms Returning to WWE In Backstage Role

Image result for Shane Helms ROH

As we previously reported, Abyss and Sonjay Dutt left Impact Wrestling last week and will be starting with WWE in a backstage capacity.

Wrestling Inc. reports that former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Shane Helms will be returning to the company as a backstage producer. Helms had been working with Ring of Honor since this past June.

Helms brings nearly 20 years of experience in the business on a national level, dating back to his signing with WCW in 1999. His biggest career run came when he started dressing as a superhero named “The Hurricane” in the WWF in 2001.

During a recent media call, Paul “Triple H” Levesque discussed the company increasing their efforts in hiring talent in backstage roles.

“We’re always on the lookout for talented people that can contribute to the product and to the WWE as a whole,” Levesque said. “It doesn’t matter where they’re from, the quality people that are talented, that have a passion for this and want it to go to the next level and succeed, I’m always looking forward to those people.”

Helms is expected to begin with WWE today. Wrestling Inc. has learned that Abyss and Dutt are believed to start their new roles by mid-February. Levesque indicated that their roles are not yet fully defined.

“Sonjay coming in here, Abyss coming in here [in] behind the scenes roles, we’re going to see where that best fit is for them,” Levesque said. “I’ve heard of them, I know of them.

“So many people speak highly of them and their jobs over the years, from a talent standpoint and other standpoint, so, I’m looking forward to working with them and seeing where they best fit through all of this, as we all are. Everybody here will determine where they fit, what they want to do, and how they can help contribute in the best way to the product going forward.”
