The Undertaker Signs Deal To Appear At Starrcast 2 In Las Vegas During AEW Double Or Nothing Weekend

The Undertaker has signed on for a significant non-WWE appearance this spring, according to Sports Illustrated.

Taker has reportedly signed a deal to appear at the Starrcast II wrestling convention in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 25. This is the same date of All Elite Wrestling’s Double Or Nothing event, and the convention is somewhat affiliated with AEW, but not an official AEW event.

Starrcast founder Conrad Thompson spoke to SI and said the convention is for all wrestling fans.

“I know people might assume this is an AEW event, but that is not true. We have wrestlers appearing from every promotion from all over the world, and Starrcast isn’t just for All Elite Wrestling fans, it’s for all wrestling fans,” Thompson said. “The Undertaker is synonymous with wrestling and generations of wrestling fans have grown up with The Undertaker. We wanted to bring something unique to Las Vegas, and there isn’t anyone more special in this business than The Undertaker.”

It should be noted that there is no direct link between working for AEW and appearing at the Starrcast convention, according to SI. There will now be obvious speculation on Taker appearing for AEW but he likely will not be appearing at Double Or Nothing and any kind of deal with the promotion would be separate from his deal for Starrcast.

“The Undertaker experience is its own standalone experience at Starrcast,” said Thompson, who expects a sellout when tickets for Taker’s appearance go on sale later this month. “We are so proud to bring The Undertaker experience to fans this Memorial Day weekend at Starrcast II.”

As we’ve noted, Taker recently removed WWE references from his social media pages started taking bookings for non-WWE appearances but he is not expected to wrestle for any other companies. The Dead Man is reportedly charging $25,000 per hour for appearances. There’s still no word yet on if Taker will be wrestling a match at WrestleMania 35 in April.

We noted yesterday that Taker took to social media and teased an “important meeting” after he and wife Michelle McCool took a private jet somewhere. It looks like the meeting could have been related to Starrcast.

Cody Rhodes Undergoes Successful Surgery Today

Image result for Cody Rhodes Undergoes Successful Surgery Today

All Elite Wrestling Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes underwent successful arthroscopic knee surgery earlier today in Atlanta.

While teasing a t-shirt toss into the crowd, Cody suffered the injury back on November 9 at a ROH Global Wars live event in Buffalo, NY. Cody underwent an MRI at that time and it was revealed that he had two tears in his meniscus. He would then lose to ROH Champion Jay Lethal at Final Battle on December 14, then he dropped the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title to Juice Robinson at New Japan’s Wrestle Kingdom 13 event on January 4. He’s also made a few in-ring appearances at indie events since then.

Brandi Rhodes noted on Twitter earlier today that Cody would be better in time for AEW’s first event on Saturday, May 25 in Las Vegas – Double Or Nothing. There’s no word yet on who Cody will wrestle at Double Or Nothing but he is expected to be in action. Dave Meltzer noted on F4Wonline.com that the surgery would likely keep Rhodes out of action for 2-3 months. He is not scheduled for any matches until Double Or Nothing.

Dave Bautista In Talks With WWE For WrestleMania 35 Match, But Also Has Interest With AEW

Image result for Dave Bautista In Talks With WWE For WrestleMania 35 Match, But …

Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Dave Bautista is in talks with WWE for a match at WrestleMania 35, but it’s not set in stone yet … and All Elite Wrestling is expressing interest.

According to multiple sources, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star is deep in talks with WWE about a return on “The Grandest Stage of Them All.”

However, we’re told he’s 50/50 on returning at this point based on how talks have gone.

In addition to this, we’re told there’s been interest expressed to Dave from All Elite Wrestling and he isn’t turning them away. Our sources say he’s listening to what both companies have to offer.

For those unfamiliar, AEW is the new company started by the billionaire Khan family with Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks serving as Executive Vice Presidents. Chris Jericho is also signed to the company and it’s rumored a TV deal is on the horizon.

As you may recall … Dave last made a WWE appearance in October during SmackDown 1000’s Evolution reunion. The segment ended with a tease for a future match between Batista and Triple H. The next month, however, Triple H got injured at WWE Crown Jewel.

The WWE Exec has since been cleared to train again though, as he revealed on a media call.

How Long Is Kenny Omega’s AEW Contract For?

Kenny Omega revealed on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio with Dave Meltzer that he has signed a 4 year deal with All Elite Wrestling.

Omega, who is a full-time AEW talent as well as an Executive Producer with Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, also revealed that this is the largest contract he’s ever signed. Omega also has freedom to work on non-AEW projects.

“I remember signing my first contract with New Japan and I was nervous, because it was like wow, a 2 year contract, that’s a lot of time, a lot can change” Omega said. “And now with AEW, I’m signing for 4 years. And I never… it just felt natural. I didn’t feel nervous. It’s a large contract for me, largest one that I’ve signed. But I didn’t feel like I was making the wrong choice and it was cool to feel that way.

“The cool part, too, is like, with the contract, it leaves me very open for a ton of crossover potential, which is always the most important thing for me because I don’t necessarily want to be remembered for what I do in the ring. I want to be able to crossover into all different kinds of media. So, I’m going to be able to do my stuff with eSports, I’m going to be able to do all types of stuff with ESPN and all that, some acting stuff. These opportunities now… there’s no red tape. It’s in my contract where I can freely do those and pursue them, which is great.”

As noted, Omega was confronted by Chris Jericho at Thursday night’s Double Or Nothing Ticket Announcement Party in Las Vegas, and the two tangles. Their Wrestle Kingdom 12 rematch is expected for AEW’s Double Or Nothing event on Saturday, May 25 in Vegas.

WWE Co-President Comments On All Elite Wrestling

Image result for WWE and AEW

WWE Co-President George Barrios commented on the launch of a “new wrestling organization” during today’s fourth quarter 2018 WWE earnings call. The caller was presumably asking about All Elite Wrestling, wondering if AEW has caused an impact on the market for talent, and if WWE is seeing more cost inflation due to their launch.

“Yeah, too early to tell. We wouldn’t talk about specifics of that,” Barrios said. “From our perspective, we think we are the premiere global organization with the greatest wrestlers in the world, one of the greatest platforms. We have a lot of confidence in our ability to manage that.”
