Sting Confirms Recent Surgery And Talks His Health

At the age of 63, All Elite Wrestling star Sting is still going strong. It’s been just about two years since Sting debuted for AEW at Winter is Coming 2020 by coming to the aid of Darby Allin, and since then he’s put on a number of astonishing performances. In a recent interview with “The K&C Masterpiece” radio show, however, Sting revealed that he recently underwent surgery on both of his knees.

“I just had surgery, it [was] 6 or 7 weeks ago now,” Sting said. “Basically just a clean-out on my very old knees. … I’ve seen those that went through the physical therapy process with flying colors, and did what they were supposed to do, and worked through the pain versus those who did not. Those who did not, they never recover. The game never comes back to them.”

Sting would then recall several instances from his past where he knew that he was injured, and stressed the importance of stopping immediately rather than attempting to power through certain injuries. “Then there are other times where you’re hurt almost to that point, but you can still go on,” Sting continued. “I’ve dealt with all of it.”

The recent surgery might come as a bit of a surprise for fans, considering Sting wrestled a match at AEW Full Gear just a few weeks ago. “The Stinger” didn’t take it easy during the match, either — he even dove off a raised platform, landing on Jay Lethal and Satnam Singh, in one of the more memorable moments of the match. His actions in the match seem to confirm Sting’s surgery was relatively minor, and it certainly looks as though the wrestling legend is already back at full capacity.

ROH Final Battle 12/10/2022 (Results)

ZERO HOUR:

Jeff Cobb def. Mascara Dorada

Willow Nightingale def. Trish Adora

Top Flight def. The Kingdom

FINAL BATTLE:

Blake Christian & A.R. Fox def. La Facción Ingobernable (Rush and Dralistico)

Things went wild at the end, and A.R. Fox got the surprise win with a 450 on Dralisitico – looked to be a botch with Fox looking genuinely surprised as the ref insinuated that Dralistico didn’t get his shoulder up in time. RUSH and Dralistico took the loss well, throwing chairs and attempting to tie Fox up with cables. Odd ending, defo seems like it was a botch, and considering it was Dralistico’s debut and due to RUSH’s prior ROH booking, I don’t think this was the intended ending.

ROH Women’s Championship Match:
Athena def. Mercedes Martinez (c) to become new ROH Women’s Champion

Swerve In Our Glory def. Shane Taylor Promotions

ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match:
The Embassy (Brian Cage & Gates of Agony) def. Dalton Castle & The Boys (c) to become new ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions

ROH Pure Championship Match:
Wheeler Yuta def. Daniel Garcia (c) to become new ROH Pure Champion

ROH Tag Team Championship Double Dog Collar Match:
The Briscoes def. FTR (c) to become new ROH Tag Team Champions

The Briscoes became ROH World Tag Team Champions for a record thirteenth time. As FTR were regrouping in the ring, The Gunns ran out of nowhere to dish out a beating before saying they want to kill FTR’s legacy. The Briscoes chased the ‘Ass Boys’ away as Dax Harwood promised to take The Gunns out.

ROH World Television Championship Match:
Samoa Joe (c) def. Juice Robinson

ROH World Championship: (If Castagnoli loses, he must join the Jericho Appreciation Society)
Claudio Castagnoli def. Chris Jericho (c) to become new ROH World Champion

Referee Paul Turner sent Ange and Magic to the back as Jericho hit a snap Codebreaker, but the follow up Codebreaker missed as Claudio finally got the big swing, with Jericho tapping out mid swing as Claudio regained the ROH World Championship. Wheeler Yuta arrived to celebrate with his BCC team-mate, as did former ROH World Champion Jerry Lynn as Claudio and the fans had fun with streamers. The Ring of Jericho era is over.

Matt Hardy Provides Update On Jeff, Teases “Broken” Return

AEW wrestler Matt Hardy has provided an update on his brother Jeff, and continues to tease that his “Broken” character might be in the works.

Jeff Hardy has been off AEW television since June 14th, when he was written off due to an arrest for driving under the influence and then beginning rehab. Since then, we haven’t had many updates about Jeff’s progress until now.

Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt was asked about Jeff and he had the following to say, “He’s basically been doing the same thing he’s been doing. He’s doing exactly what he needs to be doing to get where he needs to be in life. More or less, we’ve just got to get these legal issues behind him before we move forward, so that’s kind of where we’re at with Jeff, and we’re hoping that happens sooner rather than later.”

Matt has continued to appear on AEW television since his brother’s absence, teaming with Private Party and being absorbed into The Firm. Hardy and his Firm cohort Ethan Page have had their issues of late, which has led to Matt teasing a return of his “Broken” persona. When asked about it, Hardy said,

“I can say I am not a big fan of Ethan Page. I think he’s an a**hole. Very creative guy. I do think he’s an a**hole. It’s hard to call him an FI because he’s got a pretty good head on his shoulders, he just uses it for all the wrong things. So yeah, there’s was a point in there where I snapped a little bit. It could have been a flash of Damascus popping out of my mortal vessel. I don’t know. If we continue along this same path, and he keeps punishing and doing things to Private Party that negatively affects their career, then I might end up ‘Broken’ before it’s all said and done. I promise you, Ethan Page – if we end up going down this avenue, this is going to be something you will regret.”

AEW Roster “Excited” At Possibility Of Mercedes Varnado (Sasha Banks) Joining Soon

The AEW roster is “excited” over the prospect that Sasha Banks could be ‘All Elite’ within a matter of weeks.

Banks has not been seen on WWE TV since May and is serving a suspension for walking out of an episode of RAW.

This week, it was reported that Banks is expected to appear at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom event on January 4, 2023.

Fightful Select reports that several AEW stars are “excited” and believe that Banks’ Wrestle Kingdom outing could be a sign of her arrival in AEW.

One anonymous source said they believe Banks joining could turn around the promotion’s TV ratings.

Some have suggested that Banks could be Saraya’s mystery partner, as the British star and her partner will face Britt Baker and AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter on the January 11th episode of AEW Dynamite, one week after Wrestle Kingdom.

William Regal Exiting AEW, Heading Back To WWE For A “Backstage Role”

A report from Fightful Select has an update on William Regal leaving AEW. Regal is now “effectively done” with AEW and said to be heading back to WWE. Additionally, Fightful’s report states that he’s currently finalizing a new deal with WWE.

Regal’s deal with AEW is said to be up this month, so that’s why he was written off TV with the recent angle on Dynamite with MJF. There have been multiple rumors regarding the length of Regal’s contract. It was previously rumored that he had a three-year contract, but WWE sources claimed that Regal had an “out” clause in his AEW agreement.

Additionally, the report notes that all AEW sources are operating under the assumption that Regal is leaving. Regal previously joined AEW in March of 2022. One WWE source said it’s not surprising that Regal is returning to WWE as Triple H was reportedly “very unhappy” that he was let go earlier in January. WWE NXT sources had said that Regal was considered a “lifer” for the NXT brand, and Triple H even mentioned this before.

Regal is expected to have a “backstage role” following his return to WWE.

After joining AEW, William Regal became the manager of the Blackpool Combat Club, featuring Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley as the inaugural members of the stable.
