Major Backstage Update On Tony Khan’s Free Agent Signing Scheduled For AEW Full Gear

On Wednesday, AEW President Tony Khan confirmed that the company will unveil a new AEW roster member at the Full Gear pay-per-view on November 18. In his announcement, Khan touted this upcoming signing as “one of the world’s best wrestlers,” noting that they were also well-known and respected by the AEW fanbase. While it has yet to be revealed who Khan is specifically referring to, a new report has seemingly ruled out one of the possible candidates.

According to Fightful Select, former IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Moné is not expected to be announced as AEW’s latest signing. Though the two sides have made plans to work together at some point, sources within AEW reportedly have indicated that Moné is not configured into the plans for this segment at Full Gear this weekend.

Following her stints with NJPW and STARDOM, Moné was invited to attend AEW All In in August with the aim of giving her a first-hand viewing experience of AEW. Tony Khan later pointed out that Moné was still in the process of recovering from an ankle injury she sustained in May, meaning any potential in-ring work for AEW would be halted until she was cleared to wrestle again.

Moné may not be penciled in for the free agent signing at Full Gear, but numerous other possibilities still appear to be on the table.

The Bunny Departs From AEW

The Bunny is reportedly gone from All Elite Wrestling.

After fans noticed The Bunny was removed from AEW’s official online roster, speculation picked up that she was gone from the company. Mike Johnson of PWInsider has since reported that the two sides mutually agreed to part ways, although more details are not known at this time.

AEW has quietly released talent in the past with no official statement until the talent comes forward with the news or AEW President Tony Khan is directly asked. Such was the case more recently for Sonny Kiss, whose contract was not renewed earlier this fall after largely being inactive on AEW’s flagship shows in recent years.

The Bunny, formerly known as Cherry Bomb and Allie, joined AEW in 2019 following a run with Impact Wrestling. The Bunny was one of AEW’s first signings as she competed at the first Fyter Fest, Fight for the Fallen, and All Out pay-per-views. She initially competed under the name of Allie until early 2021 when she introduced her gimmick change and officially aligned with The Butcher and The Blade.

The Bunny also formed a partnership with Penelope Ford in 2021 as the two feuded with Anna Jay and Tay Melo, culminating in a brutal Street Fight that aired on the New Year’s Smash edition of “AEW Rampage.” She only had three AEW matches in 2023, suffering two singles losses to Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker. Her last match took place on “Rampage” in September as she teamed with Anna Jay and Taya Valkyrie in defeat to Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, and Skye Blue.

Matt Hardy Teases A New Direction For The Hardys

On the latest episode of his “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, Matt Hardy discussed a wide range of topics.

During the podcast, Matt noted that fans will see the most realistic version of himself soon and teased a new direction for The Hardys. He said,

“Let them go nuts. Let them have fun. If you’re one of those fans online that get mad that all the internet wrestling reporters post stuff and make headlines because we talk about interesting viewpoints, interesting opinions, if you get mad about all that and you don’t like me and you think I’m a pariah, fine. Have it your way. There’s plenty of people that don’t, and those are the people that I am catering to now. Because once again, even at AEW, myself and Jeff, we’ve been very, very nice for a long time. We were willing to give back and give back and give back, but now, we really haven’t been shown the respect that we should have been getting all along, so now we’ll stop giving, and we’ll start taking. So we’re not becoming heel. We are becoming real. You are gonna see the most realistic version of Matt Hardy that you’ve ever seen coming up in the future.”
