AEW Schedule Reportedly Changed Due To Upcoming Sporting Event

Since its launch in August 2021, “AEW Rampage” has often been taped immediately following “AEW Dynamite” on Wednesday nights, with a few live episodes occurring on Fridays. During that time, not once have “Dynamite” and “Rampage” ever aired live, back to back, something that appears likely to change this March.

Taking to X Thursday morning, Andrew Zarian reported that “Dynamite” and “Rampage” will each air live on March 20. This is due to the upcoming “March Madness” NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, which will begin on March 19, and will be aired across CBS and Warner Brother Discovery networks TNT, TBS, and truTV, including games that Friday on March 22, “Rampage’s” usual timeslot.

While this is not the first time “Rampage” has been pre-empted due to sports coverage, it will be the first time it has caused the show to air on another night. Previous pre-emptions had seen “Rampage” move timeslots to earlier on Friday, including several times last year when the NHL playoffs aired on TNT. At this time, it remains unclear whether March 20 will be the only time “Rampage” will change days, or if it will do so again a week later, as the NCAA Tournament reaches the Sweet Sixteen.

The March 20 “Rampage” will be part of AEW’s second tour of Canada, with both “Dynamite” and “Rampage” taking place in the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto. The Canadian tour is only part of what promises to be a big March for the promotion, which kicks off the month with AEW Revolution on March 3 in Greensboro, North Carolina, a show that will feature the final match in the legendary career of Sting.

The Young Bucks Return To AEW On Dynamite: Homecoming, Confront Sting And Darby Allin

The Young Bucks returned to AEW television on Wednesday during “AEW Dynamite: Homecoming” from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, and while nothing has been officially confirmed, they seem to have been positioned as the opponents of Darby Allin and Sting in the latter’s final match at AEW Revolution.

Matt and Nick Jackson’s music hit on “AEW Dynamite” following Allin and Sting’s tornado tag match against Powerhouse Hobbs and Konosuke Takeshita, where the babyface team got the victory. Sting and Allin, alongside Ric Flair, were in the ring with Tony Schiavone, who asked Sting who his opponent would be for his last match on the March 3 pay-per-view. That was when the Young Bucks appeared, acting very serious, sporting new mustaches, and wearing black and white trenchcoats. They stared down Sting and Allin from the stage before making their way to the back as the show went off the air, suggesting fisticuffs in the near future.

The Bucks have been off TV since losing a future shot at the AEW Tag Team Championships at Full Gear in November. Following the match, Matt Jackson lost his cool at ringside, smashing up the area. At the time it was reported that the Bucks could be turning heel and forming a stable involving Brandon Cutler and possibly Colt Cabana. Sting, for his part, has wrestled exclusively in tag team or multi-man matches since his debut for AEW, where he holds a record of 26-0 as of this writing.

Deonna Purrazzo Is All Elite, Makes Debut On Dynamite

There is a new face in the AEW women’s division, and her name is Deonna Purrazzo.

The former 3-time Impact Knockouts World Champion appeared on Wednesday’s episode of “AEW Dynamite” to confront Mariah May after May won her in-ring debut against Queen Aminata. The New Jersey audience welcomed their hometown hero with uproarious applause as she strutted to confront May in the ring. Purrazzo played to her home crowd, and claimed that if “Timeless” Toni Storm — who melodramatically expressed her disdain for, and subsequent departure from, New Jersey in an earlier segment — didn’t want to be in New Jersey, then New Jersey did not want Storm.

Purrazzo then turned her attention to May and singled out her affiliation with Storm. She issued a message for May to deliver to her idol.

“It doesn’t matter where she runs or where she hides,” Purrazzo said. “I will find her, because, Mariah, I am All Elite!”

Purrazzo was one of the free agents reported to have hit the market at the beginning of 2024. While she reportedly did briefly discuss a return with WWE, Purrazzo had previously listed AEW as her preferred promotion post-TNA/Impact. Purrazzo has only wrestled one match for AEW, when she competed in a losing effort against Mercedes Martinez in a ROH Women’s Championship match in 2022. But now, in Purrazzo’s own words, AEW is in the age of “The Virtuosa”.

Sammy Guevara Returns On AEW Dynamite, Reunites With Chris Jericho

Sammy Guevara is back.

Guevara returned to AEW television on Wednesday, aligning himself with Chris Jericho again after turning on Don Callis and the Callis Family. Callis introduced Guevara and showcased a painting of him and the family with his new child. Guevara was hostile, accusing Callis and the family of not being there for him when he had his child or was out of action with a concussion. After Callis gave him an ultimatum and brought up his child negatively, Guevara attacked Callis, which led to the family attacking Guevara until Jericho made the save. Jericho extended his hand, but Guevara went in for a hug, reuniting the two.

The two were then jumped by Big Bill & Ricky Starks, Jericho’s former opponents for Worlds End before Kenny Omega was put out of action indefinitely with diverticulitis. The lights went out and when they came back on, Darby Allin and Sting were in the ring and made the save.

Later, an eight man tag team match was made for Worlds End where Guevara, Jericho, Allin, and Sting will team together to take on Starks,Bill, Kyle Fletcher, and Konosuke Takeshita.

Guevara was last on television back at WrestleDream in October, teaming with Konosuke Takeshita and Will Ospreay in a winning effort against Jericho, Omega, and Kota Ibushi. He has been out of action ever since due to suffering a concussion in the match. He’s also been out as Tay Melo, his wife, gave birth to a daughter back on November 28.
