Backstage Notes On Last Night’s WWE Payback Pay-Per-View

Due to time constraints minutes were cut from two matches last night. Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton VS Seth Rolins and Roman Reigns and the main event John Cena VS Ryback.

As of last night the plan is that the Cena / Ryback feud has now ended and the WWE will now move forward with Daniel Bryan VS John Cena buildup for next month’s Money In The Bank event.

There were reports yesterday that CM Punk might not be at Raw tonight as he appeared to hint on his twitter that he would be attending a NHL game.

Due to AJ Lee being ill last night plans to have spots simular to those seen in the match between Taryn Terrel and Gail Kim were dropped as AJ was having difficulty during the match. The plan is to continue the feud between AJ Lee and Kaitlyn

Last night’s reveal that RVD would return at Money In The Bank comes with a catch – He will be working a limited schedule and will not be on the road. His contract is short term. Possibly long enough to allow WWE to build to a WWE Hall of Fame induction.

Is CM Punk Getting A New Theme Song Tonight At Payback?

20130311_Video-Still_RAW_punk

We’re hearing some interesting rumors this morning that the WWE will be giving CM Punk a brand new entrance theme tonight. CM Punk will be returning to in-ring action for the first time since his match with The Undertaker in April. Payback is live from CM Punk’s hometown of Chicago Illinois.

It’s also worth mentioning that CM Punk only has a year left in his WWE contract and there is talk about having him turn face for the final year.

DTRT Wrestling News Staff Predictions for WWE PayBack

ao6z7-banniere_Payback

Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk

John: Prediction – CM Punk
Trevor: This will be the match of the night. CM Punk is the anti-Cena and is respected for his epic in-ring ability and most of all his promo skills aka “pipebombs”. Punk has been absent since the night after Wrestlemania recovering from injuries he obtained during his match with the Undertaker. Let’s not forget Chicago is his hometown which will give CM Punk the hometown advantage with the crowd. Prediction CM Punk
Ed:  This match has the potential to steal the entire show. Jericho is one of my favorite’s and has been on a pretty good roll lately. Punk has been away since Wrestlemania so you have to give the edge to Jericho there. However, I’m thinking it will be Punk who comes out of here with the win. Prediction: CM Punk

Damien Sandow vs. Sheamus (WWE Payback Kickoff match)

John: Prediction – Sheamus

Trevor: why in the world is Sheamus in the kick-off show? His matches are always high quality Prediction Sheamus
Ed: A few months ago who would have thought Sandow would be in a match this big? Not me, that’s for sure. However, he has proven to be one of the better heels in WWE at the moment and a win over Sheamus would be huge. That’s not gonna happen though. Prediction: Sheamus

United States Champion Dean Ambrose vs. Kane

John: Prediction – Dean Ambrose
Trevor: will be a solid match performance by both individuals. prediction Ambrose wins
Ed: This should be a really good match as well. Ambrose is a fantastic in ring performer, and Kane is well…… Kane. I going with The Shield member on this one though, even though they got their first loss on Smackdown. Prediction: Dean Ambrose

Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett vs. The Miz vs. Curtis Axel (Triple Threat Match)

John: Prediction – The Miz

Trevor: despite his recent push there is still the question if Curtis is worthy of a pay-per-view win. If it was something like a WrestleMania I would say Axel would loose. However since this is a new event (payback) I give the win to Curtis Axel. Prediction Curtis Axel
Ed: There is no other choice on this but Curtis Axel and the push that the WWE is giving him. Any discussion about how good the other two have been is a waste of breath. Prediction Curtis Axel

Divas Champion Kaitlyn vs. AJ Lee

John: Prediction: AJ Lee

Trevor: This has been long overdue fans of both AJ Lee and Kaitlyn have expected a high profile match for over a year. It seams like WWE creative is at a loss as to what should happen with the entire divas division. If this match is done right it could start a new era for the divas division. I’m sure the much talked about match between Taryn Tarrel and Gail Kim in TNA will be a factor in how this match was written. prediction AJ Lee
Ed: There are several ways this match could go. Kaitlyn has been losing it mentally, so will she lose the belt as well. I could very well be time for the WWE to push AJ Lee’s in ring ability and the title would be a great way to do that. I don’t think that’s gonna happen though so I’m going with Kaitlyn to retain the title and hoping the make this fued into much more that a back stage battle of the Divas. Prediction: Kaitlyn

WWE Tag Team Champions Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton & Daniel Bryan

John: Prediction – Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns

Trevor: The Shield is one of those factions that makes waves fot a tome and then kind of loose their edge. In the wrestling industry fans can easily grow tired of a gimmick if it is not properly used. However this match will be more about Daniel Bryan. His recent boost in popularity with the crowds has provided for an interesting dynamic. Bryan will shine in this match and Randy Orton will most likely turn heel. There is some tall of Daniel Bryan turning however at this point nothing the creative team could do would make fans turn on Bryan. However it would be beneficial creativity to have Rolins and Reigns keep the tag team titles. Prediction Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns
Ed: Rumors of a Randy Orton heel turn. The Shield losing as a team for the first time on Smackdown. Daniel Bryan’s weakest link phobia. Even though I think at the moment Bryan has been the best in ring performer since Wrestlemania, I think The Shield will prevail again and retain their belts. Prediction Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns

World Heavyweight Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio

John: Prediction – Dolph Ziggler

Trevor: Dolph has been out of action for some time and the WWE probably feels a win for him is a must have. Look for Zeb Colter to be a factor in the outcome. A win for Ziggler would generate good heat for Summerslam. Prediction Dolph Ziggler
Ed: Not a whole lot to say here other than The Show Off’s push got sidetracked by injury (thanks Jack Swagger).  Prediction: Dolph Ziggler

WWE Champion John Cena vs. Ryback (Three Stages of Hell Match)

John: Prediction – John Cena

Trevor: John Cena is the face of the company while liked by the younger generation he is despised by the older. While Ryback will be showcased as a ruthless monster Cena wins. Prediction John Cena wins
Ed: On paper this looks like the perfect match for Ryback to finally win the WWE Title. However matches aren’t won on paper and the WWE isn’t ready for Ryback to be the face of the company. Prediction: John Cena

“Somebody’s Gonna Pay” Watch The Official Music Video For Mickie James Hit Single

Mickie James might have turned completely heel during last night’s “Impact Wrestling” but the knockouts champion is all positive when it comes to the recent release of her album “Somebody’s Gonna Pay”. The country music star / wrestling icon recently performed at the CMA fest held in Nashville Tennessee to a enthusiastic crowd and her album continues to make it’s mark on the country music charts.

Last week Mickie went to a local Wal-Mart store to see for herself that her album was being soled. After being shown where it was located by an employee she couldn’t resist saying “That’s me” to a shocked employee. In celebration of the album finally being available to buy check out the official music video. Which among other things features a WWE hall of famer showing a little “stratusfaction” with a swift kick to a two-timing cheater in a bar (where else in a country music video?)

TNA Wrestling Invades Nashville’s CMA Fest

TNA posted the footage above of Mickie James, Eric Young, Jeff Jarrett and James Storm at Nashville’s Country Music (CMA) fan fest last weekend. AJ Vs Kaitlyn Has What It Takes To Bring The Diva’s Division Back To The Forefront

If there’s one thing that has frustrated me more about the WWE in the past year is the lack of focus on the diva’s division. These talented and athletic wrestlers have not been given the chance to show off their abilities unlike Impact Wrestling where the “Knockouts” are given the chance to wrestle every week. In 2013 it amazes me how much the “good-ole-boy” mentality still has such a strong hold on the industry and in this case the WWE. These female wrestlers are just as athletic and can put on one hell of a match when given the fair opportunity.

I hate to even bring this up but I have to use the match at TNA Slammiversery as a perfect example of what a fair match is when it comes to female wrestling. Our society is way past the old-fashioned outdated belief that women wrestlers need to be managers, valets and the like. In the WWE Kaitlyn, AJ Lee, Tamina and others are clearly waiting to show off their in-ring abilities. Regardless who the winner is this Sunday at the WWE Pbayback pay-per-view the storyline between AJ Lee and Kaitlyn must continue.

When will the WWE learn that most wrestling fans want to see women’s wrestling? No gimmick matches but REAL wrestling and a fair amount of time in the ring? The WWE broadcasts for 3 hours every Monday night there is no excuse for not giving equal time to a diva’s match every week. Yeah we get it WWE, your “family entertainment” if you want to set a good example then let the diva’s actually wrestle. I’m tired of the segments and all the promos I want to see real wrestling.

When it was announced that AJ Lee would be facing Kaitlyn for the diva’s championship I was excited. However I’ve realized that the creative forces within the WWE have let fans down so much that I began to question if they would actually follow through with this plan. The WWE creative team is famous for beginning stortylines and then ending them without a good finish.

When I think of AJ Lee and Kaitlyn I am reminded of the epic battles between Trish Stratus and Lita. The potential is there for a feud that I believe would bring so much needed attention to the diva;s division it would reinvent the entire concept of what a diva is. NO, I am not calking for a return to the “attitude era” I am calling for fairness in the 21st century. This Sunday while everyone is focused on the male-dominated main event at WWE payback I will be hoping for a main-event quality match from both AJ and Kaitlyn.

For those that want to bring up the issue of so-called “ring rust” when it comes to AJ Lee might I ask “Who’s fault is it?” She has been given the role of your typical diva and has been given very little time to actually compete. Diva’s get more in-ring time at NXT then they do on the WWE main roster. Don’t you think that’s a little messed up?

For those superfans of AJ and Kaitlyn and other diva’s might I also suggest that just settling for seeing your favorite diva on TV regardless of what she is actually doing is not good enough? Is it really unfair to demand a little more wrestling for your favorite diva’s? Those of us who ask for fairness are no less fans then you are. We just know that they can do so much more when given the fairness which they deserve.
