Wrestling Legend King Kong Bundy Passes Away At 61-Years-Old

WWE Legend King Kong Bundy reportedly passed away at the age of 61 on Monday.

The news was first reported by wrestling promoter David Herro on Twitter. Herro has confirmed the passing with Bundy’s family.

WWE producer Shane Helms also commented on Bundy’s passing.

There’s no word yet on what led to Bundy’s passing or when exactly it happened.

Bundy is most remembered for his WWF run in the 1980s. He defeated SD Jones in just 9 seconds at the very first WrestleMania, which was the shortest match in the event’s history until 2008. He was also in the first singles WrestleMania main event match at WrestleMania 2, when he faced Hulk Hogan in a steel cage. That match was the first steel cage match in WrestleMania history.

PWInsider reports that Bundy had been dealing with some health issues as of late.

WWE issued the following statement on Bundy:

King Kong Bundy passes awayWWE is saddened to learn that WWE Legend King Kong Bundy has passed away.

Bundy was appropriately called the “walking condominium,” standing at an impressive 6-foot-4 and weighing 458 pounds. The sight of Bundy stepping between the ropes was intimidating enough, but his crushing offense proved that he was every bit as destructive as advertised. In fact, Bundy was so dominant that he demanded referees count to five when he pinned his opponents to show that there was no way they were getting up.

The Atlantic City, N.J., native broke into WWE in the 1980s, dominating at the first WrestleMania and memorably challenging Hulk Hogan for the WWE Championship inside a Steel Cage at WrestleMania 2.

Although Bundy left WWE in the late ’80s, he returned in 1994 as part of The Million Dollar Corporation, once again destroying rivals with the Avalanche Splash and proving that he was one of the greatest and most eye-catching big men to lace up a set of boots.

WWE extends its condolences to Bundy’s family, friends and fans.

Backstage News On Arn Anderson’s WWE Firing

Arn Anderson was released from WWE in February due to an incident at a live event with Alicia Fox.

Wrestling Inc. has confirmed with multiple sources that Anderson was fired because Fox showed up at a live event intoxicated. Anderson was the agent for her match and allowed her to perform. Vince McMahon was reportedly furious when he found out and it was the final straw.

Anderson had been working with WWE since WCW folded in 2001. He would occasionally appear in backstage segments and even got physical at the WWE Starrcade event in November of 2017, where he delivered his trademark spinebuster to Dolph Ziggler.

Fox’s status is unclear. She was not backstage at RAW last week.

WWE Announces Torrie Wilson For The 2019 WWE Hall Of Fame

WWE has confirmed Torrie Wilson for the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame Class.

Torrie joins headliners DX (Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chyna, Billy Gunn, “Road Dogg” BG James, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman) and The Honky Tonk Man as confirmed inductees for the 2019 class. Taz, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Jimmy Hart) are rumored.

The 2019 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 6 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn during WrestleMania 35 weekend.

Below is WWE’s announcement on Torrie:

Torrie Wilson to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2019Torrie Wilson went from a small-town Idaho girl to a worldwide Superstar. Soon, she will be a WWE Hall of Famer, too.

Wilson is the latest Superstar to be announced for the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019, joining D-Generation X and The Honky Tonk Man. The news was first reported by ESPNW. Wilson will take her place in sports-entertainment history on the eve of WrestleMania 35, Saturday, April 6, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tickets for this historic evening are available now.

A budding fitness model in the late 1990s, Wilson’s entrance into sports-entertainment came out of a backstage visit to WCW with her then-boyfriend. She accompanied Scott Steiner to the ring, and ended up staying in the industry for close to a decade after that. While competing occasionally in WCW, Wilson was also the manager for competitors like David Flair, Billy Kidman, The Filthy Animals and Shane Douglas.

Wilson joined WWE when the company purchased WCW in spring 2001. Her athleticism and penchant for entertainment made her a great fit for WWE during one of the sports-entertainment industry’s biggest eras. Wilson’s partnership with her friend (and sometimes rival) Stacy Keibler made her a key figure in WCW’s invasion of WWE. Once that invasion was fought off, Wilson became a pivotal member of the WWE Women’s division, engaging in memorable rivalries with the likes of Keibler, Sable and Melina. She even fought for her family’s honor against the nefarious Dawn Marie.

Wilson later joined forces with Candice Michelle and Victoria to sow chaos on Monday Night Raw, even bringing her pet dog Chloe into the fray while battling Superstars, such as Trish Stratus and Mickie James. Injuries forced Wilson out of the ring in 2008, but she soon found a new passion: helping others get in shape through ventures like her business, Torrie Wilson Fit.

Wilson did not stay away from sports-entertainment for good, though. In 2018, she returned to the ring to take part in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match – then later that year was a featured competitor at WWE Evolution, the first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event, in a Battle Royal for a future championship opportunity. And now, for her contributions that helped blaze a trail for women in sports-entertainment, Wilson will take her place in sports-entertainment history.

Don’t miss Torrie Wilson enter the WWE Hall of Fame, along with D-Generation X and The Honky Tonk Man, during the 2019 Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 6, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tickets for the ceremony are available now.

It was announced at the tip of the MLW TV tapings in Chicago, IL that legendary pro wrestling manager Jim Cornette has joined MLW as a new color commentator. He is currently in the booth alongside regular MLW commentator Rich Bocchini. We are told that Tony Schivone was unable to do commentary for tonight’s tapings due to his commentary commitments to the Georgia Bulldogs. No word on why Matt Striker did not take his spot, as he has traditionally done when Schivone has other commitments.

A celebrated yet despised manager, Cornette led the likes of the Midnight Express, the Heavenly Bodies, WWF Champion Yokozuna, Vader, Owen Hart & Davey Boy Smith and countless others to triumph and titles.

When not managing, Cornette found success operating Smoky Mountain Wrestling as well as advising WWE Chairman Vince McMahon in addition to his work at OVW where he coached and developed the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar and countless others.
