Weekend Update with Dean Ambrose

One thing about the WWE that I give nothing but praise for is the fact that it is always able to tie itself in with current events. From world news to the latest buzz in the world of pop culture, comments from the WWE commentary team shows how tapped in the company is to what’s trending around the world.

As a fan of the hit comedy sketch show, Saturday Night Live, I smiled wide when Michael Cole referenced the show’s 40th Anniversary special that had aired the previous night on February 15th. While Bad News Barrett has been giving his bad news with his BNZ newscast, a parody of TMZ, Dean Ambrose, his opponent for the Intercontinental Championship that coming Sunday at FastLane, channeled his inner Chevy Chase when he portrayed his version of an anchor from Weekend Update, SNL’s famous parody-news sketch. Connecting directly with the previous night’s SNL special, along with the parody of something that presents the news, the WWE was once again able to connect its story lines with the current events of today in an enjoyable way.
