The Hart Foundation To Be Inducted Into The WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2019

WWE has announced The Hart Foundation’s Bret Hart and Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart for the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame class. This makes Bret a two-time Hall of Famer.

Hart and Neidhart join headliners DX (Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Chyna, Billy Gunn, “Road Dogg” BG James, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman), Torrie Wilson, Harlem Heat and The Honky Tonk Man as confirmed inductees for the 2019 class. Veteran WWE employee Sue Aitchison will receive The Warrior Award.

Below is WWE’s full announcement on The Hart Foundation’s induction:

The Hart Foundation to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2019

Bret “Hit Man” Hart & the late Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart symbolized tag team excellence in WWE in the 1980s and early 1990s. Now, the three-time WWE Tag Team Champions will be forever immortalized in sports-entertainment history.

The Hart Foundation are the latest inductees announced for WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019. They’ll take their place in the hallowed hall during the 2019 Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 6, the eve of WrestleMania 35, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Tickets for the ceremony are available now. The news was first reported by Yahoo Sports. With this induction, Bret Hart will become a two-time WWE Hall of Fame Inductee, joining Ric Flair and fellow 2019 Inductees Shawn Michaels of D-Generation X and Harlem Heat’s Booker T.

Hart and Neidhart were no strangers to each other before joining forces. In fact, they’re family: “The Anvil” and “Hit Man” were brothers-in-law. That close connection made them gel almost instantly when they joined WWE’s tag team ranks in 1985, guided by “The Mouth of The South” Jimmy Hart. Hart’s technical prowess and Neidhart’s raw power made them a team to be reckoned with from the moment they debuted.

In early 1987, The Hart Foundation finally set their sights on the World Tag Team Titles, held by The British Bulldogs, comprised of Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid. With the help of Jimmy Hart and crooked official Danny Davis, Hart & Neidhart captured their first World Tag Team Championship.

Though they had reached the top of the tag team mountain, The Hart Foundation soon became disillusioned with Jimmy Hart’s nefarious ways. When they split from their manager, Hart & Neidhart soon found themselves the target of “The Mouth of The South’s” new charges, whether it was The Fabulous Rougeau Brothers or The Honky Tonk Man & Greg Valentine. Hart even enlisted tag teams outside his stable of Superstars, like Demolition, to take out The Hart Foundation.

By 1990, “Hit Man” & “The Anvil” had fought off Jimmy Hart’s attempts to tear them down, and turned their attention back to WWE’s top tag team prize. After bulldozing over The Bolsheviks in seconds at WrestleMania VI, The Hart Foundation made it clear they were coming for the World Tag Team Titles. It would take a few months, but at SummerSlam 1990, Hart & Neidhart defeated Demolition in a grueling 2-out-of-3 Falls Match to claim their second World Tag Team Championship.

Though they split up by the summer of 1991, The Hart Foundation left an indelible mark on WWE’s tag team division and created many lasting memories for the WWE Universe. That’s why there’s no greater honor for this legendary tag team than induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Don’t miss seeing The Hart Foundation take their place in sports-entertainment history during the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, April 6, the eve of WrestleMania 35. Tickets for the ceremony at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., are available now. The historic evening will also stream live on WWE Network at 7 ET/4 PT.

Nikki Bella Announces In-Ring Retirement (Video)

The Bella Twins are officially retired, as Nikki Bella has announced she’s also hanging up her boots and ending her in-ring career.

On the season finale of Total Bellas, Nikki talked to her family about the decision and said her last European tour made her realize it was time to call it quits.

As we previously reported, Brie made the same decision following her run in WWE around Evolution because she wanted to go back to focusing on her family.

The Bella Twins signed with WWE in June 2007. They left the company in 2011, but returned two years later and shortly after Total Divas began airing.

Nikki is a two-time Divas champion and the longest reigning champion to hold that belt.

WWE Announces Main Event Of WrestleMania 35

WWE has confirmed that the RAW Women’s Title Triple Threat between champion Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair will be the main event of WrestleMania 35.

Below is the full announcement on the first-ever women’s WrestleMania main event:

WrestleMania to feature first-ever women’s main event

For the first time in WWE history, a women’s match will be the main event of WrestleMania as the Raw Women’s Championship Match featuring Ronda Rousey vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch will take place on Sunday, April 7, in front of a capacity crowd at MetLife Stadium and streaming live on WWE Network around the world.

Ronda Rousey is the current Raw Women’s Champion, Olympic medalist, the first female UFC Champion and the first woman to be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. She is also an actress and New York Times bestselling author. Charlotte Flair is a seven-time Champion in WWE, a former Division 1 volleyball player, philanthropist and author. She is the daughter of two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. Becky Lynch is the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble winner, a two-time SmackDown Women’s Champion and was named Wrestler of the Year by both Sports Illustrated and CBS Sports in 2018. She was also the first woman ever to top ESPN’s WWE Power Rankings.

At WrestleMania 32 in 2016, WWE re-branded the Divas Division the Women’s Division and unveiled a new Women’s Championship title. Since that time, the women’s evolution has placed a greater spotlight on WWE’s female Superstars, including more prominent storylines and deeper character development that showcases their athleticism, charisma and star power.

Last October, WWE held it’s first-ever all-women’s pay-per-view event, Evolution, in front of a sold-crowd and millions more watching on WWE Network.

Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey responds to the historic news:

WWE Changing Kurt Angle’s Opponent For WrestleMania 35 Farewell Match?

According to the @WrestleVotes account on Twitter, the “Farewell Match” for Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 35 could be changing.

The Twitter account, which has broken multiple WWE stories in the past, is reporting that due to the overwhelmingly negative response to Baron Corbin being announced as Angle’s final opponent inside the squared circle for WWE, the company is considering changing things up.

There is no word yet regarding whether or not WWE is committed to changing Angle’s opponent for next month’s big event, or if they do, who that new opponent will be (although John Cena has been rumored for a while now).

We will keep you posted if-and-when new information regarding Kurt Angle’s “Farewell Match” at WrestleMania 35 surfaces.

The Undertaker Reportedly Set For Upcoming WWE Show

It looks like we will be seeing a return to WWE TV from The Undertaker this spring, however, it may not be at WWE’s “Grandest Stage Of Them All”, WrestleMania.

Despite any issues between “The Deadman” and WWE that followed after he signed on to be a part of Starrcast 2 during Memorial Day weekend, Undertaker will still be performing at the Saudi Arabia show on May 3, 2019, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

With ‘Taker not yet retiring from WWE, it will be another huge payout to partake in the annual Saudi Arabia events that the company holds. By a wide margin, the two shows in Saudi Arabia are the biggest money draws of the year for WWE.

As previously mentioned, The Undertaker signed a deal and is scheduled to appear at the Starrcast 2 wrestling convention in Las Vegas from May 23-26. The convention falls on the same weekend as All Elite Wrestling’s Double Or Nothing event, but Starrcast is not an official AEW event.

On a recent edition of The Jim Ross Report, “good ol’ J.R.” was quoted as saying, “[Undertaker] has got to make a living, and if he’s at a point age-wise where WWE doesn’t want to use him in the ring, or if he doesn’t feel able good to compete in the ring and you want to keep him around, then you’ve got to pay him something! But you might not pay him the same if you can’t get the one, two, three matches a year out of him.”

There has been no word on if The Undertaker will be appearing at WrestleMania 35. However, Wrestling Inc. reported this week that his picture is on the WWE “WrestleMania 35” graphic below on one of the production trucks at last Monday’s RAW in Chicago:

WWE Opposes Independent Wrestler’s Sister Abigail Trademark

One day before the United States Patent And Trademark Office’s March 20, 2019 deadline, WWE has filed to oppose independent wrestler Tatevik Hunanyan’s ‘Sister Abigail’ trademark.

In June 2018, Hunanyan applied to trademark ‘Sister Abigail’ for use in professional wrestling after WWE abandoned its application to obtain the trademark.

On March 19, 2019, WWE officially contested Hunanyan’s attempt at securing the ‘Sister Abigail’ name claiming that Hunanyan did not create the ‘Sister Abigail’ character and has consequently attempted to “usurp” the intellectual property of WWE.

“[Hunanyan] was an extra for WWE in 2016 and 2017 and expressed a desire to portray the WWE SISTER ABIGAIL character in WWE programming,” attorneys for WWE wrote in their Notice Of Opposition. “[Hunanyan] never portrayed the WWE SISTER ABIGAIL character and is now attempting to usurp WWE’s intellectual property by filing the Sister Abigail Application.”

Moreover, WWE has claimed that given the fact that WWE’s ‘Sister Abigail’ intellectual property is exactly the same as Hunanyan’s trademark, and that WWE’s ‘Sister Abigail’ and Hunanyan’s version both reside within the same industry, the duplication would no doubt cause confusion to consumers.

“By applying for a mark that is identical in sight, sound and commercial meaning to Opposer’s SISTER ABIGAIL Mark in connection with identical services as those provided by Opposer,” counsel for WWE wrote, “Applicant’s applied-for mark in the Sister Abigail Application is likely to cause confusion among consumers as to Opposer’s affiliation and/or sponsorship of Applicant’s services.”

According to Hunanyan, she fully expected WWE to contest her trademark and seemed unfazed by WWE’s Notice Of Opposition.

“It’s another new beginning for us all,” Hunanyan told Wrestling Inc. “The only difference between what is happening now versus what was happening then is I’m connecting my voice to my actions. I’m going to show everyone just how good and how real this story is. Why is this true? Because I showed up as a nobody, but remembered that I was somebody. And I’ll be damned if anyone ever tries to make me forget.”

Hunanyan went on to thank the fans that understand her perspective and have supported her in exercising her legal rights on the matter.

“Love has always been my number one motivating factor behind why I do what I do and as the old saying goes, ‘love makes us do crazy things,’ so let’s tell a great story in the way it was meant to be told. For better or worse, it was meant to be and I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Hunanyan added, “I can’t imagine anyone not supporting that.”

WWE Moving Global Headquarters To New Office Building, Selling Titan Towers

WWE announced that they are moving their company headquarters in Stamford, CT to a new office complex in the same city and the plan is to sell their current office space famously known as Titan Towers.

WWE sent out the following press release on the move:

WWE® Announces New Global Headquarters in Stamford03/20/2019

STAMFORD, Conn.– WWE (NYSE:WWE) today announced that the company will move its global headquarters to a new office complex at 677 Washington Boulevard in Stamford, Connecticut. This move will allow the company to bring together its operations, including its production studios and corporate offices at its new site.

“One of the most important elements necessary to execute WWE’s long-term growth strategy is world-class talent collaborating seamlessly to create compelling content. Our workplace initiative will be the foundation to meet these objectives and underpins our ability to deliver long-term value,” said George Barrios, WWE Co-President.

The new headquarters will provide the company with work space suited to its growing and evolving workforce. The site in Stamford’s central business district provides greater access from various means of transportation, floor plans which are well-suited to producing video content and greater flexibility in workplace design. The Company anticipates that it will move to the new headquarters in early 2021.

WWE will lease the space for an initial term of approximately 16.5 years commencing no earlier than July 1, 2019, with five five-year renewal options thereafter. The lease will be accounted for as a finance lease, with the creation of a lease obligation (equal to the present value of future lease payments, which would result in the recognition of interest expense over time) and a right-of-use lease asset (equal to the lease obligation less tenant incentives, which is depreciated on a straight-line basis through depreciation expense). Accordingly, the accounting for the lease agreement is not expected to have a material impact on Adjusted OIBDA. Depreciation expense associated with the right-of-use asset will be reflected in operating income. The Company’s capital expenditure guidance reflects this initiative. That guidance estimated capital expenditures of approximately $70 million to $90 million for 2019 with continued spending in 2020 above the historic range of approximately 4% to 7% of revenue. Additionally, the company expects to sell its owned and operated corporate facility at 1241 East Main Street, exit its leased spaces at 1266 East Main Street, and will evaluate options for its production studio facilities at 88 and 120 Hamilton Avenue based on strategic, operating and financial considerations.

Additional information is available on the Company’s website, corporate.wwe.com/investors.

Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet tweeted photos of WWE’s new headquarters starting in early 2021.

Below are some more details on the new space per WWE’s 8-K filing:

* The new office complex is 415,266 rentable square feet in two attached buildings located at 677 Washington Boulevard and 707 Washington Boulevard.

* The Landlord, Stamford Washington Office LLC, will construct base building improvements, which will be completed by July 1st. After that date, WWE will construct their interior improvements. The Landlord is providing an allowance of up to $40,337,716 to be applied to the cost of their improvements.

* There are five separate renewal terms of five years each. WWE has to give written notice to the Landlord not later than fifteen months prior to the end of the then current initial term or renewal term to extend the lease.

* The initial term includes a free rent period of eighteen months. After that period, the rent for the rest of the initial term is $19,100,809 per year initially, payable on a monthly basis. The rent will increase to $20,927,392 per year on the sixth anniversary of the rent commencement date, and $22,753,955 per year on the eleventh anniversary.

WWE also issued the following Q&A regarding the move:

Can we describe our workplace strategy in Stamford? If moving to centralized campus what happens to other properties in the area?WWE today announced that the company will move its global headquarters to a new office complex at 677 Washington Boulevard in Stamford, Connecticut. This move will allow the company to bring together its operations, including its production studios and corporate offices at its new site. Having world-class talent collaborating seamlessly to create compelling content is one of the most important elements of our long-term growth strategy. This initiative will be the foundation to meet these objectives and underpins our ability to deliver long-term value.

Given our growth strategy, we have outgrown our existing Stamford facilities, which would require significant investments in building infrastructure if we remained. We expect to sell our owned and operated corporate facility at 1241 East Main Street, exit our leased spaces at 1266 East Main Street, and evaluate options for our production studio facilities at 88 and 120 Hamilton Avenue based on strategic, operating and financial considerations.

What are basic facts regarding our new headquarters?

The new headquarters will provide the company with work space suited to its growing and evolving workforce. The site in Stamford’s central business district provides greater access from various means of transportation (including Metro North and Amtrak Acela service), floor plans which are well-suited to producing video content and greater flexibility in workplace design.

What is the rationale for the move?

This initiative provides critical support of the company’s long-term growth strategy, which includes increasing our ability to recruit and retain world-class talent as well as to effectively create compelling content. Our workplace initiative will be the foundation to meet these objectives and underpins our ability to deliver long-term value.

What is the timing of the move?

We anticipate that we will move to the new headquarters in early 2021.

What is the annual incremental cost of this initiative on an ongoing basis?

A discussion of the base annual rent, which on a pre-tax basis ranges from approximately $19.1 million to $22.8 million over the initial lease period can be found in our 8K filing (as shown on our website at http://www.corporate.wwe.com/investors).

The costs associated with this initiative are partially offset by savings realized through forgone rental payments for our existing leased properties and foregone base operating costs of our owned and operated buildings. Considering these factors, we estimate that the annual incremental cost would be below the base annual rent.

What is the financial impact of the move on (i.e., impact on guidance)?

WWE will lease the space for an initial term of approximately 16.5 years (which includes a free rent period of eighteen months) commencing no earlier than July 1, 2019, with five five-year renewal options thereafter. The lease will be accounted for as a finance lease, with the creation of a lease obligation (equal to the present value of future lease payments and would result in the recognition of interest expense over time) and a right-of-use lease asset (equal to the lease
obligation less tenant incentives and is depreciated on a straight-line basis through depreciation expense). Accordingly, the accounting for the lease agreement is not expected to have a material impact on Adjusted OIBDA. Depreciation expense associated with the right-ofuse asset will be reflected in operating income. The Company’s capital expenditure guidance reflects this initiative. That guidance estimated capital expenditures of approximately $70 million to $90 million for 2019 with continued spending in 2020 above the historic range of approximately 4% to 7% of revenue.

How do we measure the return of this initiative relative to other investments?

We believe that the move is integral to our long-term growth strategy as it facilitates increased operating effectiveness to create compelling content, strengthens our ability to recruit and retain world-class talent and provides greater long-term flexibility. We have evaluated these benefits and estimate that they outweigh the incremental costs associated with developing and occupying the new facility.

Why are we staying in Stamford and not relocating to a less expensive location outside the metro-New York area?

Typically, headquarter relocations are driven by four primary factors – to improve access to talent, create a catalyst for cultural change and organizational effectiveness, support organizational restructuring, and/or provide greater access to transportation and infrastructure. However, such moves are often characterized by significant costs and business disruption. We believe we can achieve the noted benefits, including greater access to worldclass talent and enhanced effectiveness in creating compelling content, with the new Stamford facility while avoiding the expense and business disruption that would have been associated with moving outside of this region.

MLW CEO Court Bauer Discusses AEW & States That MLW Talent Can Work Anywhere But WWE

MLW CEO Court Bauer was a guest on Wrestling Inc’s WINCLY podcast. During the interview, he addressed a number of topics, including MLW’s relationship with other companies.

On Wrestlers Working Elsewhere: “We signed MJF and Lucha Bros… we’ve had these guys for a while so there’s a mutual coolness there,” Bauer said. “There’s not a problem. We don’t block anyone from working anywhere. We only have one company where they’re prohibited working for which is WWE.”By doing that, if they end up on national TV somewhere – that’s great exposure. Now people are familiar with you elsewhere and also here.”

On AEW Entering The Mix: “I am very interested in the seeing the direction AEW goes. My philosophy is tide rises all ships. As long as your business is running at a high level and clicking with your fan base, you’re gonna do fine and the fans will support it. The fans will go beyond just one product. If AEW does well…if MLW does well, then that’s great for fans and the talent. It’s great for anyone. For every success story in wrestling, that helps validate it to a larger audience. To licensing people. To TV people. To potential investors….You don’t want a landscape where just one or two companies are successful – that doesn’t indicate a healthy industry.”

On AEW/MLW Wrestlers Leaving To Join AEW Full-Time: “We have very healthy and open lines of communication with [AEW] and I don’t anticipate it being an issue…. Whenever you can find a way to work together and take the ego out of the equation, you find that life is easier and business is better. The business problem people have in wrestling is ego…. Just get over it. It’s important to stay humble but also to be strategic and see the bigger picture.”
