CM Punk Teases Involvement In WarGames Match At WWE Survivor Series On Social Media

Next week, WWE will travel to Chicago, Illinois for their 37th annual Survivor Series event. Based on the location of this show, many wrestling fans have brought up the possibility of a major return – specifically that of former WWE Champion CM Punk. Despite previous reports stating that there are no talks between Punk and WWE, the “Second City Saint” continues to tease his involvement in the November 25 premium live event.

In one of his new Instagram stories, Punk shared an update on his Tuesday afternoon exercise session, revealing he had burned 666 calories. “Just working out!” the caption read. Upon closer inspection though, Punk also attached the song “War Pigs” by Faith No More, which is a cover of the official 2023 Survivor Series theme song, “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath. As of now, it remains to be seen if Punk’s teasers will result in a return to WWE, or if they’re simply a bluff.

Following Monday’s episode of “WWE RAW,” Cody Rhodes’ team appears to be down a number heading into WarGames, fueling more speculation that Punk may resurface to fill that position. Recent reports, however, have pointed toward Randy Orton as the likely candidate for the final participant in the men’s WarGames match.

WWE Tribute To The Troops 2023 To Air On Friday, December 8

Plans for the 2023 edition of WWE Tribute To The Troops have been revealed.

On Monday, WWE announced plans for this year’s WWE Tribute To The Troops event. The show will take place on Friday, December 8 at Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island. A press release notes that the show will air that night at 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

Tickets are available via Ticketmaster.com. It’s worth noting that the event page has the show listed as a SmackDown taping. It’s likely that Tribute To The Troops is the special theme for the taping and not a separate show or post-show taping, as it’s been the case in years past.

2023 will mark the first time a WWE Tribute To The Troops event will air live. It is also one of few times the event, now in its 21st year, has been open to the public. The event started as a private event on military bases. Some later ones were only open to veterans and active duty military.

“Since its inception in 2003, WWE’s Tribute to the Troops has honored our U.S. service members, veterans and their families for their continued sacrifice and commitment to our country, and is widely considered one of television’s most patriotic and heartwarming shows of the year,” WWE wrote in a press release announcing the event. “WWE has a multi-decade commitment to the U.S. Armed Forces, which includes visiting nearly 400 military installations throughout the world, offering all U.S. military personnel free tickets to WWE live events, and has partnered with military organizations, such as Hire Heroes USA. WWE currently supports the USO and tells stories of heroism and valor of our nation’s bravest through the company’s partnership with National Medal of Honor Museum to make an impact in the community.”

Backstage Report On Major Shift WWE Could Make With NXT Following CW Deal

Earlier this week, it was announced that “WWE NXT” would be moving from the USA Network to broadcast on The CW starting next year, with a major rights fee boost for WWE. The latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter offers up a few more details on the deal, including a report that discussions are being had within the company about making “NXT” a touring show, traveling to arenas across the country to film episodes live. However, nothing is set in stone as of yet.

With a few exceptions, “NXT” has long been taped at either the WWE Performance Center or, before that, Full Sail University. NXT PLEs used to be tied to a main roster PLE, taking place in the same town a night or two before. This has started changing, however, with recent PLEs held on their own weekends.

The Newsletter runs through some of the positive and negative points of making the change from filming at the PC to touring. The increased rights fees would help offset the added costs from touring while also offering a potential ratings boost, as well as events having larger live attendance. On the other hand, moving away from the Performance Center would mean less training time and a lot more travel for the company’s developmental roster.

While it’s still unclear what WWE plans to do with NXT moving forward, the company has notably been featuring more main roster talent on the brand. Becky Lynch recently held the “WWE NXT” Women’s Championship, and the company notoriously loaded up its Tuesday night show with talent when it was revealed that “AEW Dynamite” was going head-to-head with “NXT” for one night only. On top of that, recent weeks have seen “NXT” featuring “Raw” and “SmackDown” stars such as Lynch, Xia Li, Alpha Academy, Shotzi, Tegan Nox, and more.
